[RESOLVED] YAGT (Yet Another Galaga Thread)

I have combed through I think every bit of documentation out there over a period of months and have finally decided to ask someone with the risk of having missed something silly.

I am trying to see Galaga in GameEx and have yet to find a way. I have updated the game list in GameEx after making different filtering changes and it seems to not matter at all.

I am using MameUIfx. I can see it and launch it in MameUIfx if I click on it there, but the game list never shows Galaga.

I have added galaga to the "Don't filter these ROMs" list: pacman;splatter;galaga;mspacmnf

I have tried turning off game filtering completely and it did not seem to do anything.

I have gone so far as to sacrificing a chicken and one small goat. No change.

Any ideas?

Thanks for responding!

I've tried a couple different ways but nothing seems to matter. AdvanceMame isn't currently enabled and I removed the emulator for Mame after seeing your post. I don't really understand the integrated support sentence, though - how would I just go with integrated support? A link to the doc if you've seen it would be more than enough!

If there was a doc for it, I think he might have linked to it. ;) I think you meant no harm in your response, so will let it go for now. However, you may want to familiarize yourself with the Setup Wizard's Search feature. It is fairly intuitive and, if you search for MAME, it will take you right to the integrated MAME section of GameEx.

The look would be funny for me too had the links literally not had the word integrated" anywhere in them, nor does it come up with a result if I use "integrated" via search either.

GameEx has great support for MAME built in, but you can choose to go about in different ways outside of this. Regardless, stick to one approach.

Try working within these config sections to take advantage of the Integrated feature, which also utilizes the filtering. Be prepared for some tweaking to tailor the filtering to your particular liking though, and some experimenting may be necessary.

Don't confuse Advance Mame settings with Advancemame (which is really for vintage CRT support, Wells Gardner etc.)

Based on your earlier configs, I believe you've just created a bit of confusion, and so the filters you're applying aren't filtering as you expect since they don't apply to emulator or Advancemame configs.

I think this is where I headed down the wrong path. Re-checking now. Is it ok to use the version I'm using though (MameUIfx), or should I be throwing in a command-line exe only?

I can't really say, I'm a vanilla MAME64 kinda guy.

Based on what I read on their site earlier today, it's just added feature set though. I'd venture to guess that as long as things are current release wise, you're good to go.

If you decide to go with the MAME source exe route, I recommend you check out headkaze's compiler.

Keep in mind that it may take some time before the application is pulling down the most current source release (as this part is not automated), but this is by far my favorite application for compiling source releases.

It is IMO the most simplified way to complie to your liking. :)

You really helped me today, I appreciate it! The knowledge that there was a difference between AdvanceMame and Advance Mame (as it shows in Gamex Setup here) helped give perspective.

I put in a command-line version of 157 that Jumpstile had put together, and voila - after an update list I can finally see Galaga!

Thank you very much - it literally is one of the most important ones for me as it's my dad's (senior citizen) favorite and I am looking forward to setting him loose on it!
