I am getting a huge DOSBox set up on my arcade cabinet and I lost a great menu I had backed up for years. icon_smile.gif

I am looking for a menu utility (or DOS "shell") called PFS: Preface from The Software Publishing Co circa 1990. In January 1991 they sold all their holdings to Spinnaker and it's like it fell of the face of the earth. Here are some links I found - including the Trial Version floppy disk on eBay.uk - just can't find the program itself:

Baltimore Sun - October 1, 1990

PC Magazine - September 11, 1990

SOFTWARE PUBLISHING Software Publishing announced PFS:Preface 1.0, a menu system and DOS manager designed to simplify the basic functions of a DOS-based computer. PFS:Preface 1.0 allows novice and occasional users to organize and manage software applications and the contents of their hard disks without requiring knowledge of DOS syntax. The application menu system also allows users to create new links to the main menu by providing help in locating additional programs on the hard drive.

If I can't find this I'd like to hear from you all on what you use for a DOS menu/shell. I could write a long, drawn out bat file but I'm not interested in that unless it is a last LAST resort.

Thanks!

I did a pretty thorough search for it this morning, and found an abandonware site that had probably every piece of software they produced, except this one.

I hope you find it!

I did the same thing. I spent about a week searching through as many places and web sites/abandonware sites and "others" as I could think of. I can find a ton of PFS software except the one lousy program I want.

Thanks for checking though! :)

NECRO BUMP.

I found it. I can't believe I found it. On ONE site. On the entire Interwebs! Finally! :)

If anyone here is running DOSBox for multiple games I highly recommend you check this out. I found the file here: https://winworldpc.com/product/pfs-preface/100 and managed to mount the floppy image using the instructions here: https://dosbox-x.com/wiki/Guide%3AManaging-image-files-in-DOSBox‐X#_mounting_diskette_images to install it. I am so happy I came across this after all this time. :D

Sorry for the 6 year bump but I'm just having geeky nostalgia overload and needed to share. :)
