Streaming GameEx to Nvidia Shield in Action :)

After sending files to my freenas I'm try to make it as portable as possible (Next thing is to learn freenas in its entirety to have gameex running off server)

But any of you wondering about gamestream and the shield device, i can confirm it works flawlessly with gameex. Here's a link running a gamecube game die hard, nothing special gameplay wise

Dude! That's fantastic! Probably the best reason to pick up a Shield I've seen to date. This sort of thing hadn't really occurred to me. Thanks for the share!

That is really cool, but I'm holding out for the freenas setup :o

:P

Going to take some tears that is :)

That looks pretty awesome to me. I had not heard of gamestream before. How well does it actually perform in terms of FPS and input responsiveness? I am assuming it does not work over the internet only local wifi etc?

Nvidia only thing ATM you need a 600 series and above rig. But as long as you have a 4G signal or 5ghz wifi it works great anywhere doesn't have to be local. Input lag is minimal hardly noticeable. I've tried some fighters and everything is good. I haven't got a camera so I can't show that side of it.

You can get a shield portable its all handheld cheaper. And would be ideal IMO. Both have a mini HDMI port and can plug into TV in 1080.

It all runs at 1080/60fps

Need to learn freenas badly! Possblity to run gameex anywhere off a server would be perfect. A cheap 750ti would be it all it needed.

Thanks for the info. I am not sure Freenas is doable though. Would you not need a windows box? You could look into virtualization and vt-d pass-through though., I am using that here.

I can actually implement game streaming directly in GameEx and not just to grid devices with the game stream GRID API. I looked into it and got it working but the NVidia license agreement is too restrictive for it ever to happen and be released.

Yup, nvidia close there stuff up pretty tight. To most of the annoyance of amd users.

Have you looked at this? Limelight think it's still only possible on a nvidia rig but it opens out to other devices at least.

One big bummer with all this is that if the emulator requires xpadder the controller doesn't work :( probably emulates the 360 controller I know nothing about software so I ain't going to pretend lol

Wow that's really awesome Shermo, thanks for the share! (Again!) I have to say that I'm pretty curious to take Limelight for a test drive (... and I know a certain someone that might be interested in the Raspberry Pi client)

I expect they are breaking the NVidia license but I am trying out splashtop right now. That also uses NVIDIA gamestream technology. They are also probably breaking the license and won't be around long.

The issue with the license is you are only allowed to use the technology on server graphics card such as the Grid K1 (which I have) and the Quadro series.

There is also Kainy to check out although I did not have any luck with that.

The license is really annoying as its so easy to do this and it would be awesome for GameEx Online. Like I said I got it working with the SDK really easily.

Under the license I can't even release source code or anything. Its a real shame.

Here is a capture I did with the NVidia SDK at 1080p 60fps. Its pretty awesome technology and only takes a few lines of code. The capture was done over a teamviewer session on a virtual machine so I expect you really could get true 60fps. Bloody shame I cant do anything with it.

It just captures directly in hardware to h264 video so it would be the same quality over a remote connection. You would need to have additional code to capture audio though but that's pretty easy since Vista using AIO.

Only downfall of Nvidia, but then they have to have a selling point on things as they are mainly just a GPU producer i suppose, They have some amazing tech, I bought a Gsync monitor and can say the tech is awesome.

I have come across this some people say it works quite well, I don't think it's based off nvidia tech but it also works with windows phones.

I've got an nVidia Shield and I recently upgraded my card in my gaming tower to a compatible one. I've been doing some small tests but haven't had time to go full-blown stream with it. This looks awesome! I can't wait to give this a go. :)

unfortunately controls don't work in a lot of the emulators :(

PCSP = Perfect

Dolphin = Good/perfect

PCSX2 = Sort of works, some analog problems

nulldc = crash

stella = crash

Not working

project64

snes9x

SSF

Fusion

jnes

winuae

espxe

ootake

and

MAME :o

Xpadder doesn't work either so no making your own binds, o well least can play gamecube and wii on tab :D

I have no idea what type of input the working ones use and with the many plugins for others if it can use the same type. worth looking into i suppose

This guy got the official shield working with Hyperspin:

I have same problem..can navigate gameex no problem, but emulators don't respond to limelight input. Tried on my JXD S7800B tablet and also tried steam streaming on my laptop. Same problem

I use Splashtop. I haven't tried playing games through it. I only use it to work on my cab. I can do upgrades and technical stuff while sitting on the couch watching TV with my laptop. I can also use my iPhone and/or iPad to accept the stream. It's a nice tool.

From some research, it appears that the NVIDIA streaming app on the host PC has it's own proprietary Xinput stack that simulates Xinput and works ok on Xinput games. It seems to me, that it doesn't support directinput. That is, Microsoft's regular 360 drivers windows will work and have secondary support for directinput mode for those games that don't support Xnput. Since most emulators don't support xinput (only direct), they won't work with nvidia's stack. I'd guess Dolphin and PCSX2 for example a support xinput, so it would work on them ok.

[update] found a possible solution: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/622876/shield-portable/-guide-use-shield-w-non-xinput-enabled-games-and-applications-xpadder-pinnacle-game-profiler-etc-/8/

@Shermo - So after some testing, I got limelight working on my android JXD s7800b gaming tablet with direct input (non-xinput) emulators as well. I had to use the vjoy and mcshieldlauncher solutions mentioned earlier in the geforce forums. I'll probably have to set separate profiles/copies of emulators and gameex on my host machine to use it under streaming mode, but it works. (One caveat..vjoy needed to be an older versions shown on the screenshots in the forum..newer one didn't register xinput for some reason).

@Tom, FWIW I find the Nvidia gamestreaming (and limelight) video higher quality than splashtop. Users on Nvidia's forum say limlelight works better than nvidia's own client software (when not using a game router that is recommended). I haven't seen Nvidia complain about it either...I doubt they care since limelight helps them sell more hardware.
