Draco1962 Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 "READY PLAYER ONE" by Ernest Cline is the ebook I am currently reading thanks to my son. I encourage anyone that is a child or fan of the 80's, especially early personal computing, console, and arcade games through MMORPGs to read this book. I don't think it will disappoint! 3 Quote
GimmeClassics Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Sounds like a story I would really enjoy reading ! Where can you buy this ebook? Is there also a hard copy? Thanks! Quote
nullPointer Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Is Amazon available in the Netherlands? If so that would be my first choice. Here's the U.S. link. I'm hoping it will work for you, or give you enough information to use your local equivalent of Amazon.Ready Player One [Kindle Edition] Quote
GimmeClassics Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Thank you nullpointer. In the mean time i have found a link to a dutch webshop: https://m.bol.com/nl/p/ready-player-one/1001004010986954/ Quote
hansolo77 Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Sounds interesting, too bad I don't have the ability to sit and focus long enough to read a book. I'll wait for the movie. Quote
Draco1962 Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 You might wanna try, Han! A lot of the story actually revolves around Columbus... Quote
nullPointer Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 A lot of the story actually revolves around Columbus... As far as fifteenth century Portuguese explorers go, I've always been more of a Magellan man myself. (Totally kidding - I knew what you meant. Go Buckeyes! Although I am serious about the explorer thing. Magellan > Columbus) Quote
Draco1962 Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 Magellan had skilz. Columbus had luck (initially.. in the end, not so much). Quote
hansolo77 Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I might get the audio book. Looks like it's read by Wil Hweaton. (Note the emphasis on the H ) Quote
ClassicGMR Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 I grabbed a copy of this. When I finish reading Game of Thrones I'll make it the next book before moving on in that series. Thanks for the recommend Draco. Quote
Draco1962 Posted January 12, 2013 Author Posted January 12, 2013 Well, I finished the book and have to say that I was impressed and it took me for a modern day ride through my geeky PC and console past! My only complaint is that the book ended too soon. Quote
celly Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Man, Draco, this is a good read! I couldn't put it down last night. So, when is GameEx going to have OASIS support? Quote
Draco1962 Posted January 13, 2013 Author Posted January 13, 2013 Not sure, but I am ready when it does! Quote
GimmeClassics Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 @ Draco > I want to thank you for suggesting Ready Player One ! I've just finished reading this book and it was a blast !! A trip down to do memory lane. I encourage every fan of classic arcade gaming to read this book Thanks again Draco Quote
hansolo77 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Thanks to the inline announcement made by tthurman here, we should revisit this thread! I still need to read it. LOL. Remember I said I can't stay focused long enough to read and will just wait for the movie? Well....lol! Quote
Dal1980 Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 I might get the audio book. Looks like it's read by Wil Hweaton. (Note the emphasis on the H )Did you manage to find an audio version of this? Seems Amazon shows a preview with no option to buy and tells me to use Audible which I installed on my iPhone for it to tell me that I can't purchase it through this app. :/Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote

nullPointer Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 I have this audiobook. I'll upload to Dropbox Google Drive for you guys... Not to be a grumpy old curmudgeon, but I would advise against this as it would be a violation of forum rules (copyrighted material) 2 Quote
tthurman Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Ahh Audiobooks, if it wasn't for them I would never read..........wait a minute Fear not fellow non-readers....you get one book free just for signing up for a trial. If you put a lot of windshield time in, this could be the start of a fantastic relationship Quote

hansolo77 Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 I actually enjoy reading and listening to the book at the same time. I get more into the stories that way. Especially if there is music/sound effects and the reader is able to portray characters with different voices. A lot of Star Trek and Star Wars books are prime examples. Since I'm still reading/listening to the Song of Ice and Fire books (Game of Thrones), it'll be a few more months till I'm ready for this (still have a half book to go, then another one (then another one he's not finished writing yet)), but it's next on my list. The Roy Dotrice readings of SOIAF is so good in fact, that he's won awards because of all the characters he's able to portray (and come back to later in the book still sounding the same). When I READ read, rather than just listen, I tend to get lazy eyed and wander, easily become distracted, and then end up putting the book down rather than finish the page/chapter/book. I've ended up starting and not finishing DOZENS of books that way. Audio is so much more direct I think. Quote
