Do u have all the roms in the same folder? I kept mine in separate folders for each system and told GameEx where to find them. If BIOS files were required, I also had to tell MESS where to look for them. GameEx just displays everything that is contained in the folder you have specified for a given system regardless of whether the game is for that system or not...

Congrats KRC. Well deserved!

Please keep Hattiesburg, Mississippi in your thoughts today

Glad to hear u and ur family were safe and unharmed thru all of that thurmansevolution. Tornadoes are a constant threat here in the midwest. U just never know where and when they are going to hit. Very scary stuff... -
Thx for the input guys. Moventura, did u use InstantSheller or a similar program to shell Win 8?

Was thinking about upgrading Win XP to Win 8 since it's only $39.99. But I like to boot directly into GameEx. Anyone know if possible to use a program like InstantSheller to shell Win 8?

This is awesome Tom. Great work sir!

Thx KRC. Great work!

Welcome to the GameEx forums rtkiii. The auto-download feature is pretty slick. Tom and Circo from Emumovies seem to work together closely on many projects. As a matter of fact, Tom created the download utility for the Emumovies site. And I believe that u can get a discount at the Emumovies site when u purchase GameEx in the event that ur interested...

Thx Tom and Adultery!

Celly: That's hysterical! I hope ur friend likes it out here. If he/she is from NorCal, it's quite a change. Especially the weather. Still can't get used to sub-freezing temps and snow. If u know O'vale pretty well, u probably have the same opinion as me: it's the pits. I actually grew up in Fair Oaks and then we moved to O'vale. Never really dug the change. There really isn't much going on there and the only good thing about it is the close proximity to Roseville and Folsom. Hahaha. But my dad likes it tho. So as long as he's happy, we're happy. Speaking of which, I still go out to see my dad on a pretty regular basis. Maybe next time I'm out there we could meet up... Tempest: Thk u for the kind words. To be honest, I don't think this CP would be anything without the monitor and Marquee Magician to display images on it. I think that's one of the features that most ppl who see it think is the coolest. Plz keep the awesome programs coming that will take folks cabs to the next level!

Thk u guys again for the kind words. It really means alot to me. I've put alot of work (and $$, unfortunately) into building this machine. This is actually the 2nd showcase style cabinet that I've built and I promised myself that I would make this one even better than the first (which I sold regrettably when we were living in an apartment and didn't really have the room for it). So I definitely have tried to pull out all the stops when thinking of ways that I could improve it. Celly, in response to ur question, I def have plans to add this to the "Cabinets Running GameEx" thread. I still have a few more "tweaks" that I plan on making and then will get it up there. BTW, I live in the Kansas City area now but I grew up in Orangevale. My dad still lives there and my younger brother lives in Roseville. Small world, huh?

Thx for the complements guys! I have been working on this cabinet for over a year now. That CP alone took the majority of time due to the complexity of the artwork (which was done by another individual). The project has definitely been a "labor of love" and is still not 100% complete in my mind. I certainly could not have done it without the help of the awesome peeps here and at the BYOAC site. I've included another pic that shows the whole machine in case anyone was interested...

As mentioned by others in this thread, there are kits and adapters that let u use almost any console controller via USB. I have a 4 port USB hub built right into my cabinet and have converted over controllers from most of the major systems to USB so I can plug them into the port. When I load a game for a particular system, I want to see a pic of the controller and what each button is used for.

I use MESS (UME actually which is a combo of MESS/MAME) for several reasons. First off, the scanline filter that is available for this emulator is hands down the best looking scanline effect that I have seen of all the emulators I've tried. I have a rather large LCD monitor in my "showcase" style cabinet, and the scanlines on most other emulators are too thick to look realistic. The second reason I prefer this emulator over others is the fact that I only have to update one emulator as opposed to trying to keep up with dozens. The third reason for using MESS is the fact that I can manipulate the screen size very easily. For handheld systems, I tend to shrink the screen size so that the games aren't so pixelated that they're unplayable. While it's true that MESS doesn't always emulate some systems as well as other system-specific emulators, it does emulate the more popular systems (NES, SNES, Genesis, TG-16, etc.) almost perfectly. And for the systems that have them available, the cheats are very easy to use. I highly recommend MESS if the features I've listed above are also important for ur setup.

Thx for the info guys. I will check those sites out.

I would like to get some nice, higher res images of console controllers (NES, SNES, TG-16, etc.) to display in the monitor I have built into my CP to illustrate the controls for each system. Does anyone have a good source for something like that? I would be looking for something similar to this NES controller pic.

MAME Compiler is an awesome program. I use it to patch and compile each new update of UME (combo of MAME and MESS) with the "no nag/hi score" diff. Makes it super easy. Headkaze, right now I have to update the "makefile" with the target=UME to get the correct output when compiling is complete since MAME and MESS are in the same source. Do u think it would be possible to add an option to MAME Compiler that would let the user indicate the desired output (MAME, MESS, or UME) and would update the "makefile" accordingly? It might make things a little bit easier for ppl who aren't sure how to get the appropriate file type thru the compiling process. It would also save the step of having to update the "makefile" manually.

NP Tom. Just glad I will be able to continue updating GameEx now...

I figured out what my issue was here and I'm happy to report it was not Marquee Magician or GameEx. I had foolishly updated the program that Marquee Magician uses to display images awhile back. That program is IrfanView and I went from 4.32 to 4.33 to stay current. Well, it appears that the newest version of that program makes the images load significantly slower than the previous one. This long loading time interferes with the emulator load and caused the emulator to be minimized. I restored version 4.32 and the images load extremely fast thus preventing any interference with the emulator. Unfortunately, it took a lot of frustration and a complete uninstall of GameEx to figure this out. I guess what they say is true: 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Lessons learned here. LOL!

Looking great. I've been looking for some good system logos and pics to use in my digital marquee when I'm running console games. I think these might definitely fit the bill. Can't wait for the complete set!
