I actually figured it out when I was looking @ trying 2 use Tempest's MAP Magician program 2 see if I could create a custom MAP file as a workaround for my issue. That's when I realized the games were not zipped. Anyway, this was def a big relief for me since it didn't seem a solution was going 2 b easy. I wanted 2 get the info out about my goofup so that a ) Tom wouldn't hv 2 keep searching for a bug that didn't exist & b ) 2 make sure that anyone else who comes across this same issue will find this helpful. These topics on this forum hv helped me immensely as I've been configuring GameEx & I'm always trying 2 do my part 2 give back.

I discovered the reason why the system wasn't rebuilding the MAP files the other night. It was what I like to refer to as an "id10t" error. LOL! Basically, I had enabled the Zip/7-Zip/GoodMerge option for all these emulators but did not have the roms in Zip or 7-Zip archives. They were all just bare roms that had not been compressed. So by disabling that option, GameEx rebuilt the MAP files and I could see the games in the list once again. For the sake of consistency (and to save disk space), I went ahead and added the games to their own individual archives in Zip format and then enabled the setting once again. So this issue can be marked as "resolved". One thing that might be considered for a future release would be to have the system still recognize the games and build the MAP file if they are uncompressed and this setting is enabled. It is entirely possible that a user might have some compressed and some non-compressed files in the same folder. It would at least save someone like me who enables that option erroneously.

Tried 12.55. The bad MAP files I deleted did not get rebuilt when I selected the emulator from the menu. I'm thinking a fresh install of GameEx might be the best option. If I did that, could I keep my old .ini file and just throw it back in the "config" folder so I don't have to set everything up again?
-
Tom, would it be possible to get version 12.55 of the "GameEx.exe" so that I could just replace version 12.56 to see if the older version restores the creation of the MAP file functionality? LMK. Thx!

Sorry about that Tom. I must not have hit the "attach this file" button. log.txt

Hi Tom. Here's a copy of my last log file. GameEx is on my primary drive (C:) and the games are on a secondary drive (F:). The drives are both connected to the same motherboard.

Should I consider uninstalling GameEx and reinstalling an older version until this issue is resolved in a future release?
-
Ok. I tried to add PC Engine again to a new spot via the setup wizard. The system did not create the MAP file for this "new" emulator. I think the newest version of GameEx might have a bug in this regard. Any thoughts on how to proceed?
-
So any thoughts on deleting the existing emulators and re-entering them?
-
Hi Adultery. There actually is no reference to MAP files in the Advanced Emulator Setup screen for any of my emulators. I'm assuming that if this field isn't populated GameEx just looks for default MAP files with numbers that match the emulators in the DATA folder?
-
Would it be possible to delete these emulators and redo them in the setup wizard?
-
Hi Frequency. I deleted the MAP files that belonged to the impacted emulators and now I just see "No Games Found" when I navigate to each one. So it would seem that GameEx did not automatically rebuild the rom lists. Might there be a way to trigger GameEx to do so?

I've got a weird situation that seems to have happened fairly recently. When I go to some of my systems (TG-16, PCE, Supergrafx, etc.) I'm presented with lists of games from other systems. For example, when I go to Supergrafx, it pulls up a list of games for the TG-16. When I go to TG-16, it pulls up a list of games for TG-16 CD. And the oddest of all, when I go to PC Engine, it pulls up a list of N64 games. I dbl checked and all my mappings for ROM folders are still correct. Any thoughts on what may be going wrong here? I've included the GameEx ini file in case that might help. Thanks in advance! GameEx.txt

No worries at all. U pointed me in the right direction w/ the Theme Editor. I was thinking it could be shut down from the Setup Wizard. Still trying 2 familiarize myself w/ which program controls what. Lol!

Hi Draco. Thx for the info! I couldn't find the news feed "option" that u were talking about. However, I was able to clear out the URL that was providing the news for the start page by going to "Edit" --> "Scroller". So that did offer a similar solution. And I was even able to put in my own custom text for that field which was kinda cool. :-)

Is it possible to disable the news feed that scrolls at the bottom of the main page in this theme?

Hi guys. I'm trying to setup CP Wizard so that I can have an image of my CP displayed on the extra monitor that shows the controls for the game that is being played at the time. My CP basically consists of 4 joysticks with 6 buttons each, a trackball, a spinner with two buttons, and a "start" and "coin" button for each player. I've got the CP setup in CP Wizard, but when I "preview" the controls for various games, I have the following issues: 1) The "start" and "coin" buttons are not indicated for any game that I've previewed so far. 2) For games that originally only had one joystick and one set of buttons that are used by both player 1 and player 2, CP Wizard only shows the controls for player 1 when I would like it to show the controls for player 1 and player 2 separately on my CP. 3) I found an instance where CP Wizard sometimes highlights an inappropriate control (for example, 3rd player joystick is highlighted on a 2 player game). 4) I'm not sure how I can label the trackball and spinner + buttons so that they highlight instead of the joystick + buttons on games like Arkanoid that require spinner or Crystal Castles that require trackball. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Absolutely perfect! Thanks a million Tempest.

I see. Yeah, the iview.ini that I saw in the MM folder might have been from just opening an image using IrfanView. I know I've viewed images thru that program in the past. BTW, would u happen to have an older version of MM that doesn't have the "snap" functionality by chance? I can always modify the .ini files to ensure that the edges of each image are touching the edges of the monitors. But it would be nice to be able to at least get all windows lined up the way I like them on both monitors. LMK. Thx again for ur help, Tempest!
-
So here's what I ended up doing. Not sure if this is what u had in mind Tempest and not entirely sure this is the best approach. It did work tho. I took the iview.ini for the GameEx template and changed the X and Y coordinates to correlate to the 3rd monitor. I'm running all monitors at the same resolution, so the width and height remained the same. I fired up GameEx and the image that is usually on the 2nd monitor when I start up the frontend was nicely placed on the 3rd monitor. Does that seem like the way u were thinking about Tempest? Or were u thinking of modifying the coordinates in the overall iview.ini so that I could push the right edge of the canvas to the 3rd monitor thereby allowing me to use the template creator to actually create windows in the 3rd monitor the way I want them? If that's the case, I'm not sure how I would need to change them because the values that I'm seeing in that .ini file for coordinates and height/width don't make sense to me. Here's what I see in there: [WinPosition] xKoord=2607 yKoord=74 Width=1044 Height=574 Maximized=0 I would've expected the xKoor value to be 1920 (left edge of 2nd monitor) and yKoord to be 0 (top edge of 2nd monitor). This is what I see in the template .ini files. I would've expected the width to be 1920 and the height to be 1080. Again, for templates where single images are being displayed, these are the values I see. I was thinking u could change the width to 3840 to account for the 2nd and 3rd monitors combined. The height would be the same. I would think the coordinates would be 1920 for "X" to represent the left edge of monitor 2 and 0 for "Y" to represent the top edge of both monitors. LMK what u think. Thx!

Hi guys. I am working on adding a small monitor (8 inch) to my CP to display game specific control info using a program like CP Wizard. I currently have two monitors in my cab (main monitor plus small monitor for marquee) and use MM to display images on the smaller monitor. I was under the impression that MM would allow me to display images on the third monitor like it does on the second one. But when I try to create a new window and move it from the second monitor to the third one, it immediately returns to the second monitor. I'm running an "extended desktop" with the marquee monitor in position "2" and the CP monitor in position "3". My video card is powering the main monitor and the marquee monitor and the on-board video is powering the CP monitor. Could the use of two video sources be to blame? Or can MM not handle this many monitors? Thx in advance for any input!

Thx 4 the info Adultery!

Thx for the info. I think I might b able to use the advanced emulator config instead of Joy2Key. But least I know now that extra work will hv to be done to start multiple programs prior to launching the emulator...
