  1. I must be missing something then. If I go into an emulator and select Change View, I can change the view to the wheel. However, now all other emulator views show the wheel too. If I change one of them back to a list view, all emulators change back to a list view. In other words, I can't make one emulator use the wheel and the others use a list view. Perhaps there is another way to change the view besides the Change View option in the front end? Is there some other means of doing this on an emulator-by-emulator basis? Maybe in the Setup Wizard or the GameEx.ini file?
  2. I'm kind of liking the new wheel, but only for emulators with a relatively short list, like favorites. Not so much for long lists. Is there any way to set the view for specific emulators, or is changing the view strictly a global setting?
  3. Just noticed that in the Daphne configuration page in the wizard, "Daphne Logo Image Path" is listed twice.
  4. Ah. Got ya. I had looked at mapping magician a long time ago but ended up using my own script since it didn't quite do what I had in mind. What my script does is search for a rom in all versions of MAME and then runs it in the most recent version that it finds it in. Thus, if I want to promote a game from say rev 145 to 174, I just add the rom to 174 and it automatically runs in that version. If I don't like the way it works I just delete the rom from 174 and it immediately reverts to run in whatever version it previously ran in. It avoids the need to map individual roms since the behavior is dynamic. Since this is very unique behavior that I'm not expecting Evo to duplicate, I'd prefer to be able to just continue doing this on my own (especially since I actually do other things in the script as well). Just adding the option to not update the listinfo upon load (like existing GameEx does) would be an adequate solution. BYW, I think Evo is going to be great and look forward to its further, eh,..evolution. If you happen to be prioritizing the next new few features to add my votes are for (1) the above described ability to suppress the listinfo update on demand, and (2) the run before and after command line options (need 'em to run my game controller scripts).
  5. Actually, GameEx already does this. It displays "Update List?" if Mame has changed. Without this or some other resolution I can't really use Evo practically since there's no way I'm going to use just one version of mame. New revs add new games and improvements but they also break old things as well. So if I want to add, say Raiden 2 to a perfectly working library, I certainly don't want to have to migrate my whole game list to a new version of MAME! I did this sort of thing once and its a nightmare. Anyway, you may be perfectly right in that Evo may ultimately provide another way of doing this (and that would be fine). For example, I think an even better solution would be to make mame a fully supported emulator type in the emulator list (once Evo gets that far). This way one could create multiple instances of mame and combine them in any fashion desired. For example, I could create a Mame145, a Mame162, and a Mame174 instance each pointing to their own folder and rom list, and then create a single emulator group out of them called MAME. In fact this would enable me to get rid of the script altogether.
  6. Evo creates its game list based on the mame executable specified in the setup wizard. Anytime that executable changes it forces the game list (ListInfo.xml) to be regenerated. While this is almost certainly the correct default behavior for most users, it creates an issue for me. I use multiple versions of MAME, and the executable I want to specify in the wizard is not mame itself but a compiled script called mame_launcher.exe that redirects to the correct version of MAME. The trouble is that if I specify mame_launcher.exe as the MAME exe, it can't generate ListInfo. If I point to a real mame.exe, it generates the list properly, but the moment I change it back to my script, the list is wiped out. Arghh! It would be really nice if there was some way to circumvent the default behavior of rebuilding the list whenever mame changes. For example, a message in the UI such as "MAME has changed, do you want to rebuild list, yes or no?". Even better would be decoupling the exe that runs the games from the exe that is used to generate the ListInfo in the wizard.
  7. Thanks Tom. 1000 works perfect.
  8. I want to create an emulator group that includes Daphne games. I can create the group and add various emulators to it, but it doesn't look like I can add my Daphne list to it. Is there any simple way of doing this?
  9. And you are indeed correct sir. I updated Daemon tools and voila! Things are working again.
  10. Hmmm. After seeing this thread I just tried running my SSF setup. It had been working fine in the past though I hadn't used it in a while. Anyway, it no longer works for me (I was using the integrated virtual drive). Just a black screen for a few moments before returning to the UI. Nothing obvious in the log. I've updated GameEx multiple times since the last time it worked as well as upgrading from Windows 8.1 to 10, so I suppose any of those factors could have broken it. I'm going to try a few things before more formally reporting the problem (with my ini files etc.), but something is definitely going on.
  11. Yup. I just confirmed that with the newest version ratings now appear to work as I had originally thought they should. That is, when I select a rating in GameEx, it displays *my rating* in the software. So these ratings are not "crowd" ratings after all. Cool. Playing with this today also let me refine another bug that I reported. If I select a game from the Favorites list, then Rate the game within GameEx, when I attempt to use the back key to return back to the Favorites list it frequently goes to the All Mame Games list instead of the Favorites list. This doesn't happen all the time, but most of the time. I know I'm supposed to post my ini files...I'll try to do that when I can, but I suspect it should be pretty easy to duplicate. Anyway, big thanks for the fix. (...and if you could implement a ratings-based game list filter to go along with this I would be a super happy camper!)

    New list issue

With the latest version of GameEx, I've run into a new issue. After I choose a game from the favorites list and play it, when I exit the game it will occasionally bring me back to the main MAME game list instead of returning me to the favorites list. At first I thought it was a one time glitch, but I have now seen it multiple times. It seems to happen at arbitrary times and I haven't yet been able to reproduce it on demand (if I do, I'll post what I did).
  13. I'm reposting this request from the main forums... I think the new ratings features is a great idea...however, it is my understanding that GameEx only displays the averaged crowd rating in game's description and not one's own ratings (you can pick your own rating, but it doesn't actually display it anywhere). By contrast, in the web interface, one can both choose their own rating and see it. The "killer" feature that I've been long waiting for in GameEx is to be able to rate games and filter lists by these ratings. In particular, this would finally solve the issue of managing large console lists. You are soooo close right now. Please consider it!
  14. Hmmm. Crowd ratings are an interesting curiosity, but not particularly useful to me. Can I change this to reflect my own ratings (or better yet, to show both separately)? The "killer" feature that I've been long hoping for is to personally rate the games and then be able to filter lists based on my personal ratings. This would be particularly useful in managing large console game lists.
  15. Maybe I misunderstand how this works then? If I change a rating in the web interface, I see the rating I picked...but if I am in GameEx, the rating is actually an average of all users? Is that correct? I was thinking that the rating was initially a group average but would then be changed to my own rating once I entered one.
  16. I'm trying to understand how the new(ish) rating system works...I'm not quite sure its working right for me. I'm using the latest version of GameEx. I have an online account. In "My Page" (on the web), I can see the games I've recently played so I know GameEx must be talking to my account ok. I can change the ratings in the web page, and they stick. Now here's the issue... Next to MAME games, I see a rating in the game's description, like 7/10. In most cases, this value does not match what I entered into the web page. In some cases it does. I've also added some ratings in for console games, and a few of these show up in GameEx, but not all. These inconsistencies remain even after leaving GameEx running for a long time. Furthermore, if I choose "Rate this game" inside of GameEx and select a new rating, I never see a change to the value in either GameEx or on the Web. Can anyone tell me if I'm missing something.
  17. I was just notified of a new update being available (14.34), and it looks like it fixes the HideOS problem I was having after putting the computer to sleep. When putting the computer to sleep and restarting, the screen blanking is now working again. Not sure what you did, but whatever it was it worked. Taito Type X games still break the screen blanking function until GameEx is restarted, but that's always been that way. So I guess this can be marked resolved. Thanks!
  18. I pretty much do an update whenever a new one comes out. Unfortunately, I don't know exactly which update introduced the problem, but it's relatively recent. I actually wouldn't put it past some Microsoft update as being the culprit either. I'm curious whether you or anyone else has been able to duplicate this or whether the problem is specific to my system. The reason its an issue for me is because the normal way people use the cab is to just turn it on from a sleep state, pick a game, and play. They now always see the desktop. Not a huge deal, but since it looked like a possible regression, I wanted to report it.
  19. Splendid support as usual (and fast). By turning off "run in background" from GameEx online, my "launch on exit" program now seems to get executed and I see the shutdown items in the log. Thanks for the pointer. The HideOS issues still remains though :-( I have no emulator 1000 (list only goes to 255).
  20. Just an additional piece of information. I noticed that when comparing my log.txt with one from a few revs back, the new one never contains the shutdown items listed at the end (which you can see are missing in the log I attached). On a hunch I did a ctrl-alt-del to look at the running background processes and noticed that after turning off GameEx (using Esc), its process is still running. I can shutdown the process or reboot to get rid of it, but it doesn't fix the issue. This seems to happen all the time now, and probably explains why Launch on Exit isn't working.
  21. I am still having the HideOS issue in 14.31. Attached are my GameEx.ini and log.txt file. I created the log file after loading GameEx, running a short session of DK. Interestingly I don't see the entry for having run the game in the log. In the past I know I've seen it there. I also have another relatively new issue. I run nomousy.exe using the "Launch on Startup no wait" option (and run it again on exit to make the mouse reappear). I've noticed lately that nomousy this doesn't work reliably any more. So it looks like something is going on here too. Finally, I should note that all of my upgrades from one version of GameEx to the next are done using the in-situ updater, not the stand-alone installer. GameEx.ini log.txt
  22. Hey Tom. Looks like the issue with freezing video and 3D cabs is fixed in 14.31. Thanks for addressing this quickly. I am still having the HideOS issue and another new one. I'll explain further and attach my log and ini file in my HideOS thread.
  23. Whoops, here's the ini GameEx.ini
  24. After just recently posting a new issue I am having with HideOS not working after a sleep cycle, I updated to 14.30 and am having even more issues. When switching lists, the video previews and 3D cabinets are now doing wacky things. In some cases, switching lists causes the video to freeze and in others the 3D cabinets show up as black boxes. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. Mostly they don't. Going back to an earlier rev fixes this. I've attached my GameEx.ini.
  25. For the entire time I've been using GameEx (a few years), I been using Windows sleep to "turn off" my cab with no ill effects. I'm currently on Windows 8.1. Anyway, after one of the last few GameEx updates I noticed that after a sleep and resume cycle that screen blanking now stops working. Everything else is fine, but I see my desktop whenever I start or stop a game. If I close GameEx and restart it, screen blanking starts working again. I've tried doing a few full restarts of the computer several times but this new behavior persists. Anyone else seeing this?? [edit 1] An observation. If I alt-tab within the game, I can still see HideOS running in the background even though screen blanking is not working. [edit 2] Another way to "fix" it (temporarily) is to alt-tab while the GameEx frontend is displayed and to select it (HideOS is not running at this time). A sleep/resume then breaks it again. [edit 3] edit 2 above reminded me of a similar and long standing issue I've had with Taito Type X games breaking screen blanking as well (i.e. that screen blanking always stops working for all games after playing a Type X game). So on a hunch I tried playing a bit of Raiden IV (which broke screen blanking as expected), but then managed to "fix" it by performing the same alt-tab trick. So this gives me hope that if this issue can be fixed for sleep, maybe it will fix the Type X game issue too.
