  1. That’s what I’m saying. Remember we’re talking about two different bezels, and the Show MAME Bezel setting on the – Attract / Screensaver Settings screen is not a bezel in the sense that you’re referring to. Heck, you could have both the attract mode bezel and the traditional MAME bezel displaying at the same time if you so choose (but only during attract mode). So ... two separate settings for two separate bezels which are not mutually exclusive, or even related to one another. As far as the setting that displays a default ingame bezel for vertical games (found on the MAME Settings screen, but not the Attract / Screensaver Settings screen), I’m afraid it’s a global setting. That bezel will either always display or never display regardless of whether you’re in attract mode or playing a game.
  2. Yep, this is a case of two different bezels, each with their own setting in the Setup Wizard. You’ll want to have a look at the Use Bezel setting on the MAME Settings screen in the Setup Wizard (it’s under the Advanced Mame Settings section). I’m guessing that the Use Bezel setting has been turned on. (You’ll also want to turn off this setting if you intend to have a look at the integrated support for bezels within MAME itself). Let us know how this pans out for you. Heh … I hear you about the concern over burn in. I still needlessly fret about it as well. I tell you kids today have it so easy, what with their ‘monitors that don’t suffer burn in’, and their ‘smart phones’, and their ‘modern dental care,’ but I digress …
  3. I think Adultery is right. On what version of Windows are you experiencing this error Krak, and what .NET frameworks do you have installed? How to determine which versions and service pack levels of the Microsoft .NET Framework are installed
  4. I guess that’s what I was trying to get at. The bezel utilized in the attract mode is not a traditional ‘bezel’ in the way one normally thinks of bezels. It’s an overlay that appears at the bottom of the game screen and displays various information about the game itself. It’s typically not the type of thing you’d want to display while you were playing a game. I don’t believe it’s even possible to display that particular bezel while actually playing a game. Is that the bezel that’s still displaying in attract mode despite being set otherwise in the setup wizard? Only reason I'm wondering is that you mentioned that you wanted the bezel to display during gameplay, but not in attract mode. So let’s get into some brass tacks troubleshooting. Would you mind posting your GameEx.ini, and your GameEx log after having observed this behavior in attract mode? Please refer here if you are unsure of how to do that.
  5. I think he does per his first post, but it would certainly be worth getting verification. It would also be worth verifying that his user status at EmuMovies hasn't changed suddenly (i.e. can he still log into his account over at EmuMovies.com).
  6. That’s a very good question, as you are a bit more limited regarding artwork. Under the Steam integration you’ll be limited to a Video, a Snap, and a Banner in terms of GameEx artwork. So long as the name of the artwork matches the Steam ID for the game in question you should be good to go. Due to the complexity of PC games over traditional console games I do often find it helpful to have a strategy guide on hand. So this is one drawback to the integration approach as your strategy guide(s) will not be available from within GameEx under Steam integration. There are of course workarounds for this specific drawback, but it is a drawback nonetheless. So if you already have a large collection of artwork and supporting materials for your PC games within GameEx (and you wish to continue displaying all of it), it may be preferable to keep running those PC games as standard emulators.
  7. From what I can tell you do still need an account, but it’s noteworthy that Snaps and Titles are completely free regardless of EmuMovies User status.
  8. Which type of bezel is displaying? There are a few different bezel settings in play and they all do something slightly different. Show MAME Bezel – Attract / Screensaver Settings: Show Bezel for Mame games. When on MAME will show a nice Bezel detailing the game and showing marquee and icon images at the bottom of the screen. Use Bezel – MAME Settings | Advanced MAME Settings: Enable and have GameEx use Bezel artwork for Vertical games on a horizontal display. You can modify the images used by changing mame.png and mask.png in the GameEx\Media\Bezel folder. This Bezel displays a single default bezel image for all games meeting the above criteria. Integrated MAME Bezel – This is configured through the integrated artwork settings within MAME (via the tab key menu). This bezel will display a bezel which matches the game running in MAME (i.e. each game has its own bezel) You might tool around with the above settings depending on the behavior you’re observing within the MAME screen saver. Welcome to the forums!
  9. Until the Steam enhancements to GameEx, I didn’t really see a benefit. But at this point the benefit for me is that I can leverage existing Steam functionality in GameEx, for ease of configuration within GameEx. This is particularly handy for any games that would otherwise require a unique Advanced Emulator Config (specifically for additional processes to watch). Previously those games each took up an emulator slot within GameEx, but now they can all reside happily under the Steam section and my emulator slots are freed up again. Yay!
  10. Sorry for the delay Qlet. Thanks for your patience, and welcome to the forums! I’m a bit curious, what happens when you run the standalone Artwork Download Utility? It may provide some clue as to what’s happening with the integrated download process. I’m away from my GameEx machine ATM, but you can find the Artwork Download Utility under the same entry as GameEx in your Start Menu (possibly under Utilities). Also, are you running any firewall software? I’m wondering whether your firewall may have gotten cranky all of a sudden about the integrated artwork downloader.
  11. This would certainly cause the issue you describe: Your INI seems to confirm this The default location for these files is ...\GameEx\DATA\. You might want to verify that those files are present. If they are present, you can enter the directory paths in the Setup Wizard on the MAME Settings screen under the Advanced MAME Settings section (these fields are near the bottom).
  12. I think he can have us all over for dinner with that thing (along with our extended families)! Holy crap! I get hungry every time I look at this thread you guys! And as much as I like to talk up my own ribs, you have all put me to shame ... ya bastards!
  13. Seriously! This theme just gets better and better with each iteration. It's looking awesome Draco. Still loving those schematic backs, and the jelly/glass overlay on the various theme components is the icing on an already delicious cake. Keep up the great work!
  14. I was a bit late to the party on this one (I just started using this app this week ), and now I already get to enjoy the benefits of this update! Thanks Tom!
  15. That's awesome! Thanks for the share Stu. I imagine this is something that will benefit a lot of Dolphin users.
  16. I just remembered that bsnes (or higan if you prefer ) also has integrated support for NES emulation at this point. I’ve never taken the NES emulation component for a test drive, but I’d sure be curious to hear how it works (one of those things I’ve been meaning to do for quite some time). I definitely think bsnes would be one to try if you haven’t already settled on an alternative to nestopia.
  17. Here’s what I do, and it works a treat. Like you I like to keep my game directories clean in addition to having a well organized game list in GameEx. Just give each game its own directory. It’s likely that your games were originally in some sort of archive format, so when you unzip them just unzip them to their own directory. In GameEx configure your Rom Filter however you need to. Then on the Advanced Emulator Setup screen Set Merge Sets to Yes, and set Scan Sub Folders to Yes. That should net you a clean list in GameEx, and afford you the luxury of a well organized rom directory. I believe that should address questions 1) and 2) without having to worry about damaging file integrity. Creating your own CUE file really isn’t that tough to do. Select an existing CUE file in Explorer and choose Open With > Notepad (or plain text editor of your choosing) Save the file as the same name as your BIN (i.e. if it’s “Great Game (USA).bin” name the .cue “Great Game (USA).cue”) Change the data within the cue to match the bin you’re pointing at. It’s been a while since I’ve done this, but the cue file should only contain a couple of lines, and IIRC it’s not terribly complex to figure out what needs to be altered (Sorry I don’t have any cue/bin format images on my current machine). One caveat here is that multi-track bins may cause you a headache utilizing this method. Let us know how it works out for you.
  18. I love Mednafen, but I don’t mind using a headless emulator (no GUI). I’ve also never tried it for NES emulation. Having said that, I believe there are a couple of Mednafen GUIs available. I’ve never tried any them, but you may just find a diamond in the rough? Mednafen GUI
  19. Awesome! Thanks Tom! I'm really looking forward to integrating some of my GOG games into Steam.
  20. I’m not too sure this is Toms work. The group on that sub-domain looks like it was created as a goof (which is a bit of a disappointment). It’s also in a language other than English (or possibly even random characters). This does make me realize that I may have missed something though. I probably need to add some text to the group description emphasizing that it is composed of GameEx users and is in no way officially endorsed by GameEx. Being as it’s a public group, it’s hard to say who’s going to say what, so it would probably be good to create at least a bit of distance in that regard (obviously I’m not so much concerned about our forum members here as about the general public) I should also mention that, if Tom (or any of our main community members) felt like they wanted to assume control of the group, I would have no problem with that. I mostly figured it would be fun to have a place to get together and play some games on Steam (as well as create a bit of visibility for GameEx on Steam).
  21. Just out of curiousity, what does you config.vdf list for the 'installdir' entries? /Steam/config/config.vdf Edit: Also what do you show for the following registry entry? HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam\SteamPath
  22. Hi Guys, In order to celebrate GameEx integrating native support for Steam (a first for any front end ), I started a GameEx users group on Steam. It's open to the public so anyone can join. Obviously our community is right here and will remain here, but I thought it might be fun to have a GameEx game hub on Steam. That way we can see what other Steam games our users are into, what GameEx users are online at a given time, and who knows maybe even jump into an online game of something. If it turned out to be something fun, maybe we could even organize gaming events on Steam. At any rate, if this sounds like something you might be interested in, you can join the group right here: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/gameexrules (Interestingly enough the /gameex sub-domain was already taken).
