  1. Hi, thanks for the help, turns out the mame.ini was out of whack, removed it and all was well. Put it back then had a closer look and the settings for gamma and contrast were out! reset them to 1 the misfit mame ini was fine so I must of loaded one of the weird looking roms. Mesk I just enabled HLSL with the 196 driver and all is working as expected, though its all a bit of a change! will put latest driver back in tomorrow. So after all the card swapping and driver versions I have found that the original card was fine!, but atleast now I have HLSL and also the exe I swapped out has nonag. What do you think keep the 8800 in or swap it for the 240?
  2. So now it seems that only the raster games are effected , vector games work fine. Just to see what would happen I moved the nvram files but to no affect. Help!.
  3. Hi, So I am stumped by this so hopefully you guys can help me out!. Having an nvidea gt240 sitting about I decided to try it in my mame cab then play with some hlsl action. So anyway the old 8800gt was removed and the newer one put in, after a restart all seemed well and all worked as expected except mame that has corrupt colours?. I launched future pinball and the colour was fine, then tried myfitmame and the curruption was also there. Thinking the driver was to blame I reinstalled the latest driver - same story, then installed the next oldest one - same again. Rolled the drive back three times more - no dice. Thought ok it`s the card so put the old one in to find the same colour problems, played with drivers again - same story, played with mame - yup still crappy. Had a go with a different mame exe still the same problems, so mame mavens whats next?.
  4. Sounds very cool!. One question though is how would tom generate any revenue from this?. Also check out these other similar projects... http://www.retrovicio.org/foro/showthread.php?9258-Retrovicio-Retroarcade-Arcalix-Live-cd-100-Pixel-perfect http://arcade.groovy.org/
  5. I made a vm of this to play with, and my first impression is that I HATE it. But I have to say its probably just the change itself that I dont like, seems fast though!. Once a way is found to disable all the metro stuff and just have a desktop then I will be happy, untill then I am staying with 7.
  6. Ok, I take full reponibilty for starting all this, but for the love of good whiskey someone please mark this as solved so we can move on to ruining some other thread!.
  7. Ok some of it seems familiar, but THIS I wash my hands of..
  8. Wow I turn my back for back for 5 mins and look what you guys get up too!. Think I best go read my blog now to see what I have said, damn those black outs!.
  9. Think I kind Of like It now!.
  10. Well I used to use nothing but Symantec Endpoint but now happily use security essentials its free and seems to work well with no issues. @celly did you say this was for a cab?. I dont put any AV in mine, but then it hardly ever goes online.
  11. And while we are at it I can see that my worries of going of topic and maybe a bit NSFW are unfounded as the mods are worse than me!. . And yet another thing i am not sure i like being called a MEMBER!
  12. Wow i have never googled rockyrocket, not me though love dogs dont really do cats, too sarcastic for my liking. Any way heres the classic.. http://youtu.be/wN2-I31Imis
  13. I remember as a kid my physics teacher getting myself and one other to throw a dead Oscilloscope in a skip with instructions to break the screen so that it did not implode on anyone else who may happen to get in said skip, happy times. You cant do that now!. Mesk glad you gave vp a go, I seem to be a bit protective of it!. Draco I just did a google for images of "gimp jedi" and nothing good came up, not like the time I was looking for a manual for my 3 way rear shock on my mountain bike.
  14. Yeah big and hard to dispose of too!. Hey Draco I just need to reasure myself that you are a jedi of the opensource photoshop kind and not the"zeds dead baby zeds dead" kind, just checking?.
  15. Ha, yep know what you mean but cant you sell a child or an organ or something (whats the going rate for a parent? - bad taste I know)?. Or do what i did and build some cabs to sell (seems that here in the uk bartops sell for more than uprights - smaller homes I guess). Sadly the tv is not the only expense did you check out the links to chriss`s builds? now those ARE expensive. My cab started of as a bartop with only a 22" and 15" display and some componants i had already, then I spotted a 32" 1080 LED tv going for £300 so that was that. At some point in the future when the main tv gets upgraded the process will start again and the 32" will be the backbox!.
  16. I have used this and i worked great, but later when the same box was updated to sp1 the prog will not launch. Not sure if it is the service pack of that i had modified other files that causes this?.
  17. Well now the seed is sown its only a matter of time before you you make one!.
  18. Thanks for the reply zoomer, I will try that next time as i dont have that cab anymore!. As an update I decided that once the cursor and all hint of windows branding hidden all that was left was to set the taskbar to auto hide. Full shelling was not really needed and setting mousefighter to start on gameex exit meant that the dot that was the cursor then became a proper one and could be used via the joystick.
  19. Hi, thanks Yep dmd is a 15" screen(two in backbox other 22" and the playfield is a 32" led tv decased)you can drag the dmd onto any screen you like then set that as the default for all tables. If you want to see the evolution of pincabs then both of the builds chris has done are the best examples.. http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4826 http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13146 As pinmame is rom based people are using a ledwiz to output events to led flashers , gear moters, soleniods, knockers, strobes ect to create force feedback as the ball hits a ramp or flippers ect. These builds make mamecabs seem both simple and very cheap in comparison as some people are putting very high end pc`s inside (hell mine has two GT460`s). Anyway enjoy and sorry to hijack the thread but hope to of added some more info.
  20. Yeah the vp8 to vp9 thing is a pain i know. I have to do a new install of vp myself this week on a freshly built system and was planning to take some screenshots of the process to help others but then came across two others that have already done this. http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7905 And... http://www.vpforums.org/index.php?automodule=downloads&req=idx&cmd=viewdetail&f_id=4070 has a download of a pdf. Both of these how-to`s have more info than is needed in a mame cab, the latter more so but the extra info may be of benefit to others. Such things like how to colour and resize the DMD and setting compatability to win NT sp4 ,using the cabinet dll ect. Anyway as a bit of fun here is my pincab running gameex
  21. I agree future pinball does have some eye candy, but feels too much like a video game to me, while vp is more of a closer emulation of the experience. But that being said fp is perfect for a arcade cab. I know the forums are full with the vp has better physics than fp rants and i certainly agree. But imho thats less of an issue in an upright cab but in a pin cab now that a different story, lots of people dont even bother to install future pinball as the experience is much weaker. It would be a shame to miss out on tables like attack and revenge from mars, sorcerer ect as the newer tables being produced have some amazing artwork and are themselves very polished. In fact i do have a three screen pincab with both vp and fp on it and when you put a table that is available for both side by side many of the vp tables shine in comparison, i dont feel its fair to name any examples as it may be an insult to the table makers effort. I do admit to being biased though as most of my game time on my mame cab is taken by pinball then centipede then probably vector games. Everyone is different though and these are just my own preferences.
  22. Please dont give up on visual pinball though it really is not a black art!. check out this page on the visual pinball site... http://www.vpforums.org/index.php?automodule=downloads&req=idx&cmd=viewdetail&f_id=2990 its the official install guide with all the info you need. I think both have a place in a cab. Enjoy.
  23. Ok thanks for the reply, Just had another go with a fresh head and still no joy. Think i may have broken something though as now when i try to start explorer as a new task the taskbar ect is missing, but if i unshell gameex all is well again?. As an experiment i exited gameex when shelled then opened a cmd prompt, cd'd to c\windows then ran both explorer.exe and also explorer.exe -64 with no success (am more use to terminal work in linux though) Thanks again paul
  24. Just had a bit of a play with this, and still seem to have the same behaviour. This may well be due to user error though! as i really need to go to bed now. Will try again when i am less frazzled!.
  25. Ok thanks for the reply tom, will try after work.
