  1. I have pointed a few misguided souls to your signature link - good stuff there, Freq (I can call you Freq, right?)!
  2. Thanks, Tom! So far all's well here after upgrade!
  3. 1. One option would be (provided you are not using the Favorites feature) would be to add all of your vertical games to Favorites, then select Yes for Play Only Favorites. 2. Do you have GameEx configured to display Full Screen? I have seen similar po0sts but not certain how this was resolved.
  4. You may want to look here as this may be of help to you.
  5. How did you resolve the problem?
  6. Here are some others that should adapt well to joy stick use... the graphics are quiote a bit dated (RGB) but classic id titles: Commander Keen - Invasion of the Vorticons: Episode 1: Marooned on Mars, Episode 2: The Earth Explodes, Episode 3: Keen Must Die! Commander Keen in Goodbye Galaxy!: Episode 4: Secret of the Oracle, Episode 5: The Armageddon Machine Wolfenstein - Wolfenstein 3D, Spear of Destiny, Return to Castle Wolfenstein Heretic / HeXen - HeXen: Beyond Heretic, HeXen: Deathkings of the Dark Citadel, Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders, HeXen II These are offered for sale through Steam and appear to have DosBox setup as a preloader. They have an id Superpack for $70 that offers almost all of id Software's DOS and some Wndows titles (Commander Keen, Doom, Wolfenstein, HeXen, and Quake)

    vbjin help

Since it is running on the Mednafen core, I would probably try whatever command line works for Mednafen first.
  8. Darker shades of Green and Yellow as opposed to the pure primary color would probably work best. If you are using the top bar for the GameEx Menu, then you will want colors that lend contrast to the text of the menu. I had considered incorporating color carbon fiber textures as part of the backgrounds of a revised Carbon & Steel theme but decided I would probably reserve that for a new theme altogether. Colors I considered were a Primary Blue for Arcade (MAME, KAWAKS, etc.), Primary Red for Consoles, Primary Green for Handhelds, Darker Orange for PC/PC type systems. Goldenrod for Multimedia, Gray for Apps. It's your theme so do what you want to with it! You have a very creative eye for the program and I am sure whatever you come up with will be well received!
  9. I like the concept. Are you considering different colors for different categories (i.e., Blue for MAME, Red for Consoles, Yellow for Handhelds, Green for Multimedia, etc.)? I like the first best. With the color throughout, it may be easier to associate with specific areas of GameEx, especially for those with children.
  10. You can find the minimum requirements here and I have also posted them below: Minimum System Requirements: Pentium 3 800Mhz CPU (or equivalent) DirectX(DirectDraw) Compatible Video card, capable of 16 bit colour at 640X480. [Your video card does not normally need to be too special unless using videos or DVD, although older motherboard onboard video is not recommended] DirectSound Compatible Sound Card. 256MB Ram Windows 2000 (SP4), XP (SP2), MCE, Vista, Windows 7 250MB Free hard drive space Microsoft .net framework 2 service pack 1 Microsoft Direct X 9.0 Windows Media Player 9 or above It looks like you are just under the recommended RAM with the system requirements with the first system, because of the 256 MB shared with onboard video (If you are using it on a MAME only cap and keep it to just displaying list view or still snaps instead of video snaps you will probably be OK). I have found on some of my older systems that I tend to get better video performance with an add-on video card (AGP or PCI) with at least 128-256MB RAM on the video card. On your second system, it exceeds fairly well and should be able to handle the features in the latest version and handle most emulators beyond MAME fine. You did not indicate if it has onbaord video, shared or own memory, and what OS you wil be running.
  11. My dad always told me "Son, if you are going to beat a dead horse, be prepared to beat it until there is nothing left but dust!" Is it dust yet?
  12. [OFF TOPIC] [RESPONSE] [sARCASTIC] [DRY] [HUMOR] Dang. Was tyring to classify my reply and forgot what I was going to type.. sigh.
  13. It has been my experience that you are going to have off-topic banter occur no matter what. It is the same dynamic that exists on the job. People are gregarious, social animals. As they obtain a comfort level with the personalities around them, they tend to joke more, or express something as an aside to the discussion that they feel another may be interested in. We have a great dynamic here. While I like things all nice and orderly, as I alluded to in my farce a few posts ago, that is not the real world. Most of the forums that are failures or languishing IMHO are because they are overly regimented, too orderly, to the point of squashing any creative conversation. It is out of that creativity that enhancement requests are born, interest is elevated, and the software evolves. GameEx is in it's 11th+ version. How many of the other FEs can say that? How many other FEs can boast the amount of enthusiasm in their userbase? From what I have observed, not many. This product evolves and matures with its users. The openness of the forum and freedom from over-regulation of the conversations encourages new users to ask questions and contribute without fear of reprisal for posting in the wrong thread or humiliation for asking the same questions that have been asked since version 1.0. OK <SOAP BOX MODE: OFF> for now. I know we have a great bunch of moderators and admins with pretty level heads and the right decisions will follow (well, there is that Tempest dude... not so sure about him... ).
  14. So... who has sprung for a copy of Halo: Reach? Being a fan of the franchise, I have to say that it is much better than its predecessors (and I thought that Halo 3 rocked)!
  15. I can sleep soundly now that my work here is done!
  16. You mean it can't? All nice and orderly like? Only sticking to the subject at hand? Where General Chaos and Major Mayhem are names of game characters and not the norm? Flame wars are same-sex couples fights instead of spats between those whose typos and misspellings in their quickness to scrap it out with another user only bespeaks of their lack of control and education? I could go on and on... ...but then I awaken to find myself here in REALITY. Crudely dragged out my bed and wonderful dreamland of dull... LOL
  17. Here you can find a recent update to the SCUMM DB by Celly that may be a little newer.
  18. Or you can create a thread...
  19. Sometimes ya just have to take a little initiative!
  20. LOL! Don't think that will happen unless they totally lack any class. I think most vote with their posts/contributions to the forum. I am registered on some of the other FE sites, but have posted little if any. As Dirty Harry says... "Don't go away mad - just go away!"
  21. Have you tried to upgrade since installing the 10.xx version? Likely, nothing will change the menu order if you do.
  22. I voted for GameEx a while ago. Has anything changed since? Not a bit! If anything, I have promoted it more by adding it in Facebook, talk it up with friends whenever I can (my wife is starting to get a glazed expression now.. ). Since I first downloaded it for the first time sometime early last year, I have seen its capabilities grow 10-fold. As I learn to better use its features (Theme Editor, Custom Menus, etc.) I find myself even more impressed by it! We have one of the best forums of any Frontend bar-none. The users, programmers, and moderators are genuinely motivated to helping newbs to advanced users alike. Issues are quickly resolved by Tom and features are added with a regularity that other authors should take notice and attempt to emulate. While some offer more "eye candy" out of the box, they lack in support from their creators and the forums are not the most friendly to the new user as this one. Like most here, I like to take the basic recipe given and add to it to create my own "eye candy" and don't feel inhibited to share it with others. Criticism is often constructive. It drives most of us to explore, improve, and create more. Thanks Tom and GameEX Gods/Gurus for making my stay here and use of this fine software worthwhile!
  23. Wobbly - you may want to check out this forum/site I "googled" as is appears to address some of the problems you have with Overlays. I have not attempted to emulate Vectrex yet so can't be of much help.
  24. Instead of killing, how about a gentle clubbing? The baby seals don't seem to mind it much...
  25. The initial issue with MESS was resolved. In addition to battling with the GameEx cache for control of my images, there were some minor path issues that needed to be resolved within MESS (when you move something, be sure to map to the new location... sigh). The sound issue was continued under another thread. This cropped up after upgrade, but turned out to just be coincidental (I had a bad wav file. It would play in WMP and WinAmp, but not in GameEx. After I determined the suspect wav, I renamed it, replaced it with another of the same name, then loaded GameEx - issue resolved!
