Silly question..but trying to find out "how" game extender works..can someone enlighten me to the process?? It is a remote process?? If so, which port by default needs to be opened?? Thanks

Did you go through the steps from PortForward?? If so, are you still not able to get a static?? I have a DHCP from Verizon, but used Port Forwarding to "cheat," and give myself a static so I can set up servers, share files, and speed up my internal network...lemme know!

It would be wise to convert these just to save space, too!

Hi Adultery- First, go to PortForward.com There is a whole section devoted to your plight. http://portforward.com/networking/MAC-xp.htm Change your DHCP to a static from the intructions, and then go into your control panel and enter in all the necessary info for IP.Gate/DNS. By giving yourself a static address, you will increase your overall speed, as the machines are not competing for the same address. Make sure to assign each machine a new address: i.e. 192.168.1.100 next 192.168.1.101 etc. If you need anymore assistance, just ask!

Memory is the key trick here..don't go nuts on video cards and processors...not really necessary for this type of beast...just amp up your RAM and you will be surprised how well things will run...Up until a month ago, I was running everything on a P3 with 512 and never had a lick of trouble!

I know your pain!! I personally like older generation machines to run MAME, versus the hotrodded newer stuff..it just seems to run smoother to begin with. I use a stripped down P4 with just a 128 card, and all is well..if I try to use it on a 3000 +, with my 512, all hell seems to break loose....MAME is a simple beast, so I keep it going on a simple machine..more bells and whistles are not always a good thing, IMHO.

Personally, I changed a lot of registry lines so that my system runs with minimal garbage all the time. I found I had way too many things actively working, that I never use, so after stripping out a lot of programs, I then disabled a ton of services and now run with minimal services running....xp has a ton of registry hacks you can download to accomplish this.

You really would be ahead to find a burner who will put all components together for you. They are all over the place, and it saves a ton of time and headaches. Just my opinion, but that is what I did in the beginning until I learned all the lovely nuances that each system has...

Heya Han- I guess my next question (thanks for the graphic by the way!) is what initial screen did you click on to get to the emulators?? I used to know where the hell is was, but have looked everywhere and can't see where to get to that screen. I appreciate your time in this matter!

Hehe..not much more than minimum wage...I am a gov't worker!! The prices here are getting seriously out of control...I only live five minutes away from work, but burn 25.00 a week now in gas..of course, having a 76 Ford GT Ranchero with a 460 engine does not help... Think I may start using my Indian MC as a main transport now! oh..by the way..a gallon of gas in Iraq is still .50 cents....

Agreed-do what worked last before you started crashing-take the drivers out, stop all processes you do not need to use (whether in MMC or reg hacks) and bare bone what you have running in the background.
