I was just curious how long of delays others have experienced when returning to gameex after exiting a game. On my 1.6gHz P4 it takes around 5 seconds and on my 1gHz P3 it takes closer to 10 seconds. Just curious if this is normal.
-
Normally the working path is where the emulator executable is located, not the case though with visual pinball. If you take a look at the original poster's settings you'll notice that visual pinball didn't work for him until the working path was changed to the tables folder.
-
Actually I think the problem he had was the working path. He had it pointing to the visual pinball folder rather than his tables folder.

Thanks for the quick response. Here is the log when I try to load a game when using the soul calibur theme. 16:33:51.8 5/20/2006: GameEx: Version 6.08: Starting Log 16:33:51.8 5/20/2006: Operating System Platform: Win32NT 16:33:51.8 5/20/2006: Operating System Name: Windows XP 16:33:51.8 5/20/2006: Operating System Version: 5.1.2600 16:33:51.8 5/20/2006: Checking for versions of .net Framework installed 16:33:51.8 5/20/2006: .net Framework 1.1 Installed 16:33:51.8 5/20/2006: Checking Registration 16:33:51.8 5/20/2006: Running Randomize() 16:33:51.8 5/20/2006: Checking for applications to Launch On Startup 16:33:51.8 5/20/2006: Initialising Video/MNG DLL's 16:33:51.9 5/20/2006: Running Misc startup tasks 16:33:51.9 5/20/2006: Setting Menu types 16:33:51.9 5/20/2006: Opening Configuration File 16:33:51.9 5/20/2006: Getting Configuration Values 16:33:51.9 5/20/2006: Using Theme: Default - Soul Calibur 16:33:51.9 5/20/2006: Checking for alternate Image Directory for Theme: Default - Soul Calibur 16:33:51.9 5/20/2006: Launching HideOS.exe 16:33:53.3 5/20/2006: Hiding Taskbar 16:33:53.4 5/20/2006: Is Media Center running? 16:33:53.4 5/20/2006: Check Media Center Exit/Start Mode 16:33:53.4 5/20/2006: Media Center Mode 2 16:33:53.4 5/20/2006: Text/Language: English 16:33:53.4 5/20/2006: Applying Language/Text 16:33:53.4 5/20/2006: Creating Scancodes.txt (List of DirectInput scan codes) 16:33:53.5 5/20/2006: Snap Delay set to: 1 16:33:53.5 5/20/2006: Get other settings 16:33:53.5 5/20/2006: Set: Find emulator artwork on best match basis 16:33:53.5 5/20/2006: Start work for Form 16:33:53.5 5/20/2006: Getting Original Screen Size 16:33:53.5 5/20/2006: Loading ICON 16:33:53.6 5/20/2006: Initializing Component 16:33:53.7 5/20/2006: Initialising Bass Audio Library 16:33:54.3 5/20/2006: Loading default loading screen 16:33:54.3 5/20/2006: Using 3D Alpha Blended Animations. I have been using gameex for a little while now and I have run into a few issues that I was wondering if anyone else had. I am using the latest version. -I noticed that when I use a custom background for an emulator that after playing a game when it returns to gameex it no longer shows the custom background for that emulator. -A couple of times part of my mame gamelist has disappeared. Like from the letter S on. -I noticed that after adding a game to my favorites list and shutting down my computer without exiting gameex that the game will not be in the favorites list when I return to gameex. P.S. I have exit disabled on gameex and I use the button on my computer to perform the shutdown. If this isn't a good idea with gameex plz let me know. -Also I have the same problem other people have described when launching games from the favorites list that it launches a totally different game. -I updated the text under the text/language option in the configuration menu and it has no affect on the text in gameex. I instead have to manually edit the config file. -After updating to the latest version of gameex the majority of the themes cause gameex to crash. For most themes the crash occurs when trying to launch a mame or daphne game, or when trying to update the mame list. And a few of the themes will not let gameex load up at all. -The theme editor doesn't seem to want to save changes half of the time. There are a few other minor things but these are the main ones.
-
Turned it off. Didn't help.

I updated to version 6.08 and gameex now keeps crashing when I would try to load a game. I did a fresh install of gameex on another computer to see if that would fix it and it still keeps crashing. I downloaded version 6.10 to see if that would fix my issues and I am still having pretty much the same issue. I tried using different themes including the default theme that is packaged with version 6.10 and that did not help. Some themes will even prevent gameex from loading up at all. Below is my log file. 09:42:25.6 5/18/2006: GameEx: Version 6.08: Starting Log 09:42:25.7 5/18/2006: Operating System Platform: Win32NT 09:42:25.7 5/18/2006: Operating System Name: Windows XP 09:42:25.7 5/18/2006: Operating System Version: 5.1.2600 09:42:25.7 5/18/2006: Checking for versions of .net Framework installed 09:42:25.7 5/18/2006: .net Framework 1.1 Installed 09:42:25.7 5/18/2006: Checking Registration 09:42:25.7 5/18/2006: Running Randomize() 09:42:25.7 5/18/2006: Checking for applications to Launch On Startup 09:42:25.7 5/18/2006: Initialising Video/MNG DLL's 09:42:25.7 5/18/2006: Running Misc startup tasks 09:42:25.7 5/18/2006: Setting Menu types 09:42:25.7 5/18/2006: Opening Configuration File 09:42:25.7 5/18/2006: Getting Configuration Values 09:42:25.7 5/18/2006: Using Theme: Default - Tron 09:42:25.7 5/18/2006: Checking for alternate Image Directory for Theme: Default - Tron 09:42:25.7 5/18/2006: Launching HideOS.exe 09:42:27.0 5/18/2006: Hiding Taskbar 09:42:27.0 5/18/2006: Is Media Center running? 09:42:27.1 5/18/2006: Check Media Center Exit/Start Mode 09:42:27.1 5/18/2006: Media Center Mode 2 09:42:27.1 5/18/2006: Text/Language: English 09:42:27.1 5/18/2006: Applying Language/Text 09:42:27.1 5/18/2006: Creating Scancodes.txt (List of DirectInput scan codes) 09:42:27.1 5/18/2006: Snap Delay set to: 1 09:42:27.2 5/18/2006: Get other settings 09:42:27.2 5/18/2006: Set: Find emulator artwork on best match basis 09:42:27.2 5/18/2006: Start work for Form 09:42:27.2 5/18/2006: Getting Original Screen Size 09:42:27.2 5/18/2006: Loading ICON 09:42:27.3 5/18/2006: Initializing Component 09:42:27.4 5/18/2006: Initialising Bass Audio Library 09:42:27.7 5/18/2006: Loading default loading screen 09:42:27.8 5/18/2006: Using 3D Alpha Blended Animations. I asked this question awhile back and Tom said it was on his to do list. I was just curious if this was implemented yet? I have been trying to keep up with the changes and I didn't notice if this was one of them. I would like to add pcgames as a start page category rather than having it under emulated games.
-
I have the Ripper enabled in the configuration but it isn't showing up in GameEX?
-
I upgraded to the latest version of GameEX and I still am having issues with the game extender. When I load a mame game the left part of the game extender screen is missing.
-
Yes that works but I what I really wanted to be able to do is control the volume with the volume control on the mce remote and I assume that the volume control on the remote uses the same process as the keyboard volume control to control the volume. When I say keyboard volume control I am referring to actual buttons specifically for controlling the volume and not the keyboard shortcut, alt plus up or down arrow keys. Thanks for taking the time to look into this.
-
Actually, from what I can tell, the process that needs to be running in order for the volume control to work is 'explorer.exe', which is of course what I am trying to avoid by running gameex as shell. I guess what I was wondering was what program I could use to allow me to control the volume with either my keyboard or my remote without loading explorer.exe.
-
I have gameex set up to run as shell and everything seems to work pretty well but I lose the ability to use the volume control on my keyboard or remote. I was wondering if someone knew if there was an easy fix for this? I thought maybe I could use a batch file as shell that would load whatever process needs to be loaded to allow volume control with the remote and then load gameex.
-
Somebody has to know the answer. If the answer is obvious and I didn't find it in the docs I apologize.
-
I was wondering if there was an easy way to change the start page categories? I would like it if the Mame categories on the start page the same way they are now but what I would like to change is to make the Laserdisc games and the pinball games selectable from the start page rather than having them under the emulated games category. Let me know if this is possible. Thanks
-
Tom, I was also wondering if there was a way to set it up so that when you exit gameEX that the game extender would also exit?

I have been playing around with GameEx for a little while now and I think it's awesome. One thing I have been having issues with is the game extender feature. First off, I was wondering the best way to launch game extender when I start GameEX. I tried setting it up as 'launch on startup don't wait' but when I do that GameEX doesn't gain focus. Second issue I was having is that the far left part of the game extender screen is cut off. Not very much but it is noticeable. Just so you know I am using an ATI Radeon8500 outputting to 2 monitors. I am running at a resolution of 1024x768. Third issue I noticed is that unless you set mame up to run at the same resolution that gameex is running at, the game extender screen will be totally screwed up when mame switches resolution for the game. Last thing I was going to mention was that when I applied deadzone settings to gameEX the snapshot window wasn't resized accordingly. It spread over the border on the right side. Thanks for taking the time to look at these issues. Let me know if you have any questions.

Yes it works fine. I also have it working in mamewah.

I followed the advice on that thread but I still can not get it working. It does load Visual Pinball now though but I get a Load Error(Error loading file). I have my tables where they need to be and I have the configuration pointing to the right path but for whatever reason it will not load the table?

I know the game extender is pretty new so there might be a few issues with it but I was wondering if someone that has visual pinball running could give me some advice. Thanks

I have been playing around with game ex for a couple of weeks and I just registered my version a day ago. I was having a few problems with set up though. I have searched the faq's and forums for answers but to no avail. This is not a real big concern to me but ingame cpviewer does not always display for me, it can be somewhat erratic. Also one time after it returned to the game, the game was running unthrottled. Not sure if anyone else has had any problems with it? The game extender really has me pulling my hair out. I have it set up to display on my secondary monitor and it loads up and displays the picture. The only problem is that the left 3rd of the screen is cut off. This doen't happen though if I run game ex in a window instead of full screen? When I try to load a visual pinball game the screen goes blank and it then goes back to gameex without loading the game. I have updated all the paths in the config and they should all be correct but I can not get it to work for the life of me. I notice when I close game ex that there is a script that is active but it seems to be hung up on something? If I need to give some more information please let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
