  1. yea i think i need to ditch the arcadevga. should have left well enough alone as i had windows xp was running soft 15k and the built in nvidia video on my mothernoard and no problems, then i got the dumb idea hey lets redoo everything and install win 7 x64 then no more soft15k with the nvidiam should have just bought a good ati card not the arcadevga. oh well. i may still have my original drive with xp on it
  2. do those drivers work with the arcadevga 5000? if so i will try that tonight thanks
  3. the monitor is a wells gardner d9800 so 800x600 is the max. its a tri sync. i may just deal with it and run d3d. i know its not arcade perfect and it doesnt look at as sharp but less of a headache and i never have any sound stutter with d3d as with ddraw. if i had to start over i would have built a cabinet with a large lcd and a normal video card. maybe a 65 inch lcd on the wall and my control panel on a pedestal a few feet in front of it with the computer inside of it? gun games would be a blast on a screen that size
  4. so if there is some way of launching the utility he speaks of and switch to 640x288 desktop and then the mame game, then on exit run the one for 800x600 that would work. but how to do that in game ex.
  5. but its nothing with the arcade vga itself, its direct draw and switching from a interlaced desktop. this is from ultimarcs page: Important note about Windows 7 and 8 There is currently a known issue with Windows 7 switching between resolutions, which is caused by a bug in Windows 7 / DirectX. If the desktop is running at an interlaced resolution (eg 640 x 480 on a standard-res monitor), When any game which uses a non-interlaced res is started (which is pretty much any Mame game), an error resuts "Unable to initialize directdraw". Note this only happens if the desktop is running at an interlaced res, which is the case when using a standard res monitor (not a multi-frequency monitor). There is a workaround for this: Run the desktop at a non-interlaced res such as 640 x 288. This might mean using a front end which has a 640 x 288 mode such as Mamewah. The resolution can be switched using the Quickres icon. There are also 3 useful utilities which can be downloaded here. These are simple programs which change to the specified res. So, you can configure a front end to run 640x288.exe to change to this resolution before starting the game. Once this has happened, Mame will then be able to invoke the correct resolution for the game. Note to Mame devs: This issue does not arise if D3D is selected. But owing to not being able to disable stretching in D3D in Mame this results in a poor quality picture.
  6. i am not home right now to check but looking online on the configuration guide i see " Don't switch resolution" is it something with that? no hurry but next time you are in front of your setutup post back thanks
  7. anyone here using windows 7 and the arcade vga card? windows 7 has issues if using a interlaced desktop you get a error from direct draw. the workaround is setting the desktop to 640x288 wich kind of sucks. or just use direct 3d. i have seen some posts that in hyperspin they have made a workaround that before each game launch it switches the desktop to a non interlaced and then back on exit. is there something like that in gameex that i can do? i like my desktop at 800x600 also gameex the same. thanks ps am i better off going back to xp? or maybe xp x64 even
  8. so i installed on a windows 7 32 machine at my work and same issues? clicked on tron to download and it downloads and a popup opens to install, i click install and it sits forever
  9. just downloaded gameex 14 install file on another computer win windows 7 64 and same problem only tried bubble bobble theme and same blank screen in setup wizard . theme is there but gameex doesn't see it? is some messed up with 14? I haven't had to reinstall in years from scratch, only update? I don't have another win 7 64 machine to try on
  10. tried that, even ran revo uninstaller cleaned all registry of gameex and all folders deleted. reinstalled and it installs to root of c: gameex but I run the wizard and get to download themes tried bubble bobble tron ect bubble bobble installs then tron asks for directory to install and it goes to correct c:/gameex/themes but that just sits and looks lik it never completes cant go forward only click stop. if I look in the themes folder the bubble bobble is there and so is tron but within the setupwizard I can select bubble bobble fron the pull down menu but nothing shows in preview under it? driving me nuts
  11. I had windows xp for years on my mame cabinet. Updated to win 7 64 and backup up the game ex files reinstalled gameex on the new installed win 7 and every thing seemed to work. Favorites and emulator settings ect but the themes are messed up. Default ones are ok but downloaded ones after I download and extract to c:gameex/themes the name shows up in setup wizard but when I select the theme it's blank no screen shot and when I run gameex it will just run a default theme. When I download a theme within setup wizard after it downloads it wants to install in program files x86 gameex/themes but never finishes? I don't want to loose my favorites or other settings any ideas? Thanks
  12. not a gameex problem but thought someone here could help. was running mame 144 had all roms and chd files and everything worked, I updated my cabnet to win7 64 and decided to update mame to 153. I have the full set of roms and chd's and the folders are all the same as 144 directories ect. game ex updates game list with no problems, regular games run fine but chds look like they are going to start but it closes and goes back to play this game page? so I tried a non compiled mame64ui and updated rom list and that seemed to work ( showed like 29000 roms) if I try to run area 51 or say carnevil I get an error cant find the chd files ect. but they are there? if in mame64ui I right click on that game properties and audit no error. has something changed in mame since 144 like directory tree or something that I am overlooking? I know some of the chds are converted to type 5? thanks
  13. so I have win 7 64 running, ended up buying the arcadevga 5000 card because soft 15k wouldn't work with windows 7. every thing was good so far until I installed gameex and used my registration file and it doesn't work? I get the nag screen. do I have to get an updated registration for windows 7 64? if so do registered users get a cheaper upgrade to the new coming gameex thanks
  14. will do. thanks
  15. ok so i pulled the trigger and am switching to 64bit win 7, one question is i have now 144 mame. i am going to compile a 64 bit version, has anything major changed in mame from 144-153? i have all roms correct for 144 . i havent kept up on the mame world for a while so if there are no great improvements i will stick with 144 thanks
  16. Thanks for the input. I have a extra 2tb hard drive so I think I will try 32 bit then attach the original drive and copy everything over leaving the original untouched so nothing lost. Wish there was an easy way to just upgrade. Oh well if it was easy it wouldnt be fun. Thanks
  17. the reason i was going to upgrade was because xp is dead with microsoft now, but its a dedicated mame cabinet. the only thing i do is play mame and update gameex. but if in the future mame wont support xp be i would rather be ahead of the game. if i do choose 64 bit wouldnt it be better to use the 64 bit mame? i have 4 gigs ram and am running 3 ghz dual core right now and everything works great area51 carvevil with my aimtrak nothing plays slow or bad . should i even bother? thanks
  18. i am thinking of updating my mame cabinet from xp to windows 7, i have a version of mame that i compiled that is about 4 years old and it works and i have all the correct roms for it. that being said the question i am asking is it worth to go with the 64 bit version and having to re-compile a 64 bit version of mame and that would be the newest version plus roms may have changed ect. or stick with the 32bit version. thanks
  19. thanks, i am at work now but i will check the names when i get home
  20. i have daphne working great but the only thing is that not fully working is the preview vids for each game, i have 3 or 4 that dont play ? where do i start to try to find the problem ( named incorrect, video resolution ect) is there a place in game ex to see what file name for the video its looking for? thanks
  21. i just updated to a larger hard drive and used a clone program to copy one drive to another and now i lost all of the specific rom settings like in revolution x i have to recalibrate the guns? i still have the original drive . is it in nvram? thanks
  22. is there any way to find out what those mechanical games are? because if they dont work i dont want them taking up space on my harddrive that i could be using for other emulators and i dont want to re-download them as a set again.
  23. i will try that and post back what happened. thanks
  24. well i now have tried mala, maximus arcade and mameui and they all show all 18,000 plus games . i dont know if somethinh is messed up in my game folder and i need to delete it all and start over? does anyone else have the full set of roms and have them all show up in game ex?
  25. any ideas? i dont want to try to set up another front end, to see if that works thanks
