I don't know about the first question, but regarding the latter, yes you can have as many mames as you like on your computer (and in GameEx). For the other Mame's you can just set them up as a regular emulator in the emulators part of GameEx. Or... If they are two different types of Mame with different games -- like Agemame or Misfitmame you can merge them together with Multimame and use that for the main mame in GameEx.

Four cases, if you also count the old machine of mine which did the same thing. Tempest -- I'm running Vista 64-bit on my cabinet. My old machine was Vista 32-bit.

Grumbles... Just did a re-install, copied over my GameEx.Ini and no Create Snaps. Argh! This is extremely frustrating. I can't see anything wrong at all.
-
Thanks for all the help Tempest. Going to give a reinstall a try now.

Thanks Tempest! I just tried it and.... No Create Snaps! I really think GameEx is caching the menus somewhere and has become "stuck". Anyone know enough about the internals of GameEx to know whether that's a possibility? I think that this is enough to establish that this goes beyond a simple configuration problem anyways. In any case, I have no clue of how to proceed with this. Any ideas out there?

I think the program "Ungoodmerge" might be what you're looking for: http://www.allgoodthings.us/mambo/index.ph...848&catid=8 With Ungoodmerge you set the criteria for what you want and it will filter your sets, so that only the best version (for you) of each game is left. Works quite well. Another alternative is using Goodmerge: http://goodmerge.sourceforge.net/About.php This one will 7z together all similar roms into one file. GameEx supports this. This will also create very clean lists (only one file in the list for each game), but when you go into the info page for the game in GameEx it will show all the variants. Personally this is what I use, but I have use for the alternate versions -- my wife and daughter are Japanese, so I want to have English and Japanese versions of each game. Don't worry too much about the "Good" in the names of both programs -- both work just fine with No-Intro and Tosec as well.

Anybody have any luck with my, or wahoo's ini files? Perhaps, someone with Create Snaps working could post their INI file and I could try that.

CDZ only works for pSX Emulator unfortunately. That's the only emulator I use for Playstation so it doesn't bother me much that I can't use the images for other emulators anymore. The compression on CDZ is quite significant -- usually shaves at least 100 megs off each image, sometimes much more. That adds up quickly. And also it makes for nicer, cleaner lists. If you use PSX Renamer you will need to use it prior to converting them to CDZ because PSX Renamer won't support that format either. Some minor cons, but for me the pros outweigh them.
-
No problem. You might want to add file types to it to prevent doubles from appearing if you're using .Bin or .Img. I've converted all my images to CDZ, so I had no need to put that in.

It could be done, with a fair bit of tinkering. First goodmerge your sets. Then either rename your still snaps to the same as the goodmerge names or download a set of stills which match the goodmerge naming (no brackets in the file names). Then use goodtools style named videos. They will only pop up on the info page and not in the list -- as GameEx will find an exact match for the goodmerge name first and display that still.

The GameEx Database Project

Actually, the Atari Jaguar too. I even bought two of them back in the day to do two player Doom. -
The GameEx Database Project
Lawrence replied to headkaze's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
May I participate? I would like to do the Atari 8-bit and Mattel Aquarius (the two systems I grew up with). -
I'm curious -- since a few of you tried using my GameEx.ini file. Was "Create Snaps" available?
-
How about separating the last played from the regular lines with a blank line (much like the regular list mode)? That would look more obvious IMHO.
-
Yes, Hide Create Snaps is set to false.
-
Yes, it is set for all of my emulators. I had the "Create Snaps" option available for some time. It suddenly disappeared for PSX, and then while trying to fix it for PSX it is now gone for EVERYTHING -- even videos.
-
Is the "Create Snaps" option cached somewhere perhaps? A long time ago I had a weird problem with a directory of really horrible songs that I no longer wanted refusing to go away from the FileTag list even though that directory was no longer in my settings for audio. I fixed it by deleting three files in the Data folder -- and never saw those songs again. Since this "Create Snaps" missing problem happened after turning on "Hide Snaps" then turning it off again -- I'm guessing (and only guessing) that perhaps the menus are cached somewhere, and no updating for some reason. If the menus are cached -- where are they and what are they called? I went through all the folders in the GameEx directory but couldn't find anything that looked like it *might* be a menu cache. I have tried turning databases off and on again as suggest in the FAQ, but that did nothing.

Unfortunately, for more than a few old computers you have to load the disks manually. Sometimes an emulator will do it for you automatically (like the C64 emu WinVice), but unfortunately (to my knowledge) there is no emulator like that for the CoCo.

Thank you so much, Tom! 9.79 works a charm. Keeping on topic. Any chance of, somehow, labelling folders in thumbnail mode? I'm a shutterbug, and have tons of picture folders, but all show up as generic folder thumbs, so it's impossible to know what is what short of hovering over each. Otherwise the new system is super sweet. Again, I can't thank you enough for all the help, and individual attention that you and the rest of the gang have given me. Thank you everyone.

I also use a mixture of Goodtools, No Intro and Tosec. Basically in that order -- Goodtools if available, No intro if not, and Tosec as a last resort. Well, I guess PSX renamer as well. I've goodmerged everything -- even the No Intro and Tosec sets. I'm trying to Goodmerge the PSX images now even (but struggling with it a bit since the default "other" database doesn't seem to like CDZ or ISO extensions, and modifying the database didn't seem to affect it). I hate having long lists, but like having alternate versions of roms. So Goodmerge makes me happy -- and the space savings is a nice added bonus (I do it for the organization first). On many sets (like the Mattel Aquarius) the space savings are irrelevent -- it's just for the organization. I occassionally get wrong snaps and have in the past, I don't mind that -- a necessary evil of using the fuzzy matching, which is well worth having a few mismatched snaps for. Thanks a lot for taking the trouble to try to replicate my strange thumb problems guys. I greatly appreciate it. Wahoo, did you turn on hide snaps then turn it off again at some point? That's what I did and they have been gone ever since, no matter what I do. This has happened to me on two machines now. Tom, I'm glad you could replicate my problem -- good to know that I'm not crazy. What's triggering it? And finally, another idea regarding this new and wonderful thumbnail system -- how about perhaps enabling it for the emulator list? Thanks to Great Flash I have very nice slick images for the majority of my emulators, would look very pretty to see them all together as thumbs.
-
I have the latest databases. It's not the snaps not matching -- there are many cases where the snap is missing and the GameEx generated placeholder (with the text written over the GameEx icon) will lead to an incorrect info page. Also the text on the bottom of the screen doesn't match. When hovering over the thumbnail for Boulderdash it says Boulderdash on the bottom of the screen, but the thumb goes to Beamrider when clicked. For Colecovision I'm using Goodtools, and Goodmerge for naming.
-
Just played around with it some more. I think I've narrowed down the problem. The mismatched thumbs with the info pages, at least in the emulators, occur only after the first ROM with no snap. All the thumbs after that one are messed up.
-
I just tried 9.78 -- the funky biography is gone. Thanks. As for the mismatched thumbs -- they're still there. The thumb for Boulderdash in Coleco, for example, pulls up the info page for Beam Rider. Many thumbs (the majority) do this in all the emulators. Ditto for music -- a thumb for Gwar pulls up The S.U.N. Project, etc. All my sets (even the No Intro and Tosec ones) are Goodmerged (just discovered a few weeks ago that Goodmerge works -- with coaxing -- on any set). Could that have anything to do with it? It wouldn't explain the music not matching, though. Thanks for your time and trouble. Few programmers give this level of support.
-
AVI, MPG, and WMV Doesn't appear to be any connection to any particular files -- ie it'll sometimes freeze randomly when hovering over a thumbnail but not sometimes not. Seems to happen to any of them. Regarding the mismatched thumbs and info pages -- I have tested every emulator now, it occurs in all (but not for every ROM). For my regular movies, none of them are mismatched -- although there are only a few videos there, I'll try copying over a lot more from another machine to see if it occurs. Again, none of the mismatching occurs in regular list mode, only thumbnail mode.
