guess what... reinstalled windows and the problem hs disappeared. Gameex running the menus and mame running the games via gameex all ok Thanks for the comments and help guys, much appreciated.

will do. I have no tested mame, mame32ui and mameuifx32 and the roms work well directly ran via any of these (apart from mame.exe I didn't test). Now I have tested each one of those mame versions within GameEx and ALL do the same problem, screen goes blank after 3-4 seconds of play, even though its still running. I have even reinstalled GameEx, with a clean installation/Theme, added MAME links and it did the same. I have even turned to the nVidia card, removed this, ran from onboard and the same error occured. So have eliminated that. I have run othe cabinets using MAME32 so should be fine, either way my next step now is to do a clean window installation and then maybe wait for Evolution LOL

I have just realised there is a newer version of MAMEUI out, MAMEUIFX - which I have downloaded and will most probably start GameEx from scratch, using the default Theme just in case its my Theme that is effecting settings, etc I am also using a nVidia GFX card so will test by switching to the obnboard one as well just in case its tht one. I will get this working

wow thanks. i know i need to work at this but I have never had issues with MAME using GameEx before and I'm using the same MAME folder so that's whats frustrating. It has created the mame.ini but doesn't it use the mameui32.ini though?

there is no mame.ini file, only mame32ui.ini and that does not include the text shown above. Also, to add all my other emulators are working fine via GameEx (tested over 1/2 of them thus far), but when i run a MAME game such as 720, it starts, I get to see the screen for a split second and then it goes blank. Task Manager shows it is running in the bakcground although I cannot switch to it. There is also another GameEx link open via My Documents, but I cannot see what it is pointing to, possiblty HideOS (although I have tried hiding and not hiding OS). I am considering waiting for Evolution now or switching to another Menu system, which is a shame as I like to support GameEx

right here's the latest - I have got a few games to run but then the screen goes blank, etc So I thought I would set everything back to default on MAME32UI.exe But now I have the added issue of the UI controls not being set so I have to edit the mame config file. Once I get the controls correct I will test again. Although I wonder if its a nVidia game issue or even DVI connection to the monitor rather than VGA - grasping at straws I know but I really need to get this working, appears to only happen on MAME via GameEx and not the other emulators so is GameEx MAME settings or MAME32 settings. Will keep you posted. And I also have the added problem of the MAME ALLGames list in GameEx showing them as images (and there is no 'Change View' button along the top) - how can I change this back to list form??? I will try with non-dedicated MAME (run as another emulator) although I notice that I am using the Config program and it stated 'Disabled' for Fullscreen, whereas the config.txt file stated; RunFullScreenInWindow=true

Now I have most of my Theme fixed I am looking at my emulators and most work as they should apart from MAME. It works fine running outside of GameEx but if I run in GameEx then run a game/rom sometimes it shows the game other times it has a blank screen. Task Manager shows the MAME running and I can actually hear it running but cannot see it, its as though GameEx has focus. Any help would be appreciated.

wow his has gotten deep I am playing about with the settings and feel a this is a new Arcade Setup for my games room I may wait a bit for Evolution and hope it solves all my problems

ok thanks. in that case it may be better to ask another question.... What Theme allows me to not have these extra buttons shown? I can then change to that Theme and then adpat to the way I like. I currently have 3 icons horizontally on screen to scroll though the emulators. I can't remember how I set it like this but it looks good as I now use Custom Menus and have them under ARCADE, CONSOLES, COMPUTERS and HANDHELDS. Any more help is very much appreciated, the same goes for help I have already receieved as well. Thanks, Neil

nope. it gave me a flat menu that listed all the emulators that done the job but it takes away the good icons/menu system. There has to be a way of getting this to work on my current bespoke Theme (as I have create a lot of images, etc thus far). Tom - any help? Just need to remove the items as listed above, maybe editing a config file or something like that?

how can i remove it totally from the theme - It is a theme I have always had and never had these options appear before the last few updates.

tried it by setting flat menus only and it still shows By name, By category, etc on ALL the menus. I am using custom menus as well so have manually set each folder/selection but can't seem to get rid of these options. Where can I disable these - can't find them anywhere in the settings. Help! Thanks.

Hi, How do I get rid of the main GameEx menu MAME selections such as the categories listed on the root menu as well as the abiltiy to go straight into the ALL GAMES list when selecting MAME as an emulator? Also, I notice in my other emulators I have a menu bar at the top for filtering my list, but how can I remove this in all my other emulators please. Thanks, Neil

thanks, that helped a lot. just out of interest how do i map a .map file for my emulator/games list? What I mean't by HTMP Applications and External Applictaions is that there are settings in the GameEx Configuration for these - and although I have enabled them I cant seem to get them to display? Is there a setting for play8ing music from the main menu - as mine is playing some but I have not set this and can't find the setting anyway. Also, how do I make it so all ym emulators show the INFO PAGE - I have set this to true but it automatically runs the game first? Lastly, how do I get a nice weather display page being shown? NEW QUESTIONS: 4.) I have some roms which are duplicate shown, then I worked out it was due to (2) Disc 2, DIsc 3 etc. How can I remove this - I assume placing *(2)*, *(3)* in the excluded files section would work? 5.) I have application linkls but how do I enable this in the config program as its faded out in my menu? (I use custom menu) 6.) Same goes for HTML Apps? 7.) I have ScummVM on my machine but does anyone have the config setup for this as I can't get it to show the games, etc It shows all files as I am searching by *.exe for the rom type in the folders/sub folders. 8.) thanks. in reply... 1) I didn't plan on using a 3rd party util but I do have Joy-To-Key, etc if required. I assumed GameEx could be setup without the requirement for the extra util? 2) I don't believe I have an 'Change View' option - how do I add this please? Note: My Theme is an older theme but which I resaved under the name of my arcade PC - so no updates would affect it. I have changhed everything from icon logos to background, sounds, etdc - all works well. 3) Thanks, found them just before you replied. I have copied and renamed that way updates won't affect them in any way and I have a set list of games, onesd which I remember and play only - not full lists required. (I have change the link to the DB in the config area for the particular emulator as well). I am even creating new ones for my PC games, etc Thanks for your help, much appreciated. I have just come back to GameEx (after using Meedio for some time) and although I have everything setup much like I want it I have a few general questions if anyone could help please: 1.) How do I set up my controller (gamepad) to work with GameEx? 2.) How do I set up Game Screenshot Backgrounds? and/or Game Video Backgrounds? 3.) Where do I find the Emulator Databases so I can edit/modify the Categorises for each game, etc so they appear as I want them to on the list/menu, especially using C64, etc so I can filter (on the left hand menu of the game list) for manufacturer, year, game type, etc Thanks, Neil
