  1. When I run Visual Boy Advance in GameEx, the taskbar always appears when a game is loaded. To my knowledge, the only way in the emu to remove the taskbar is hitting escape, which exits back to GameEx. The games are unplayable with the taskbar showing because the controls don't work. So, does anyone know how to get VBA to load without the taskbar showing? Thanks
  2. I have the lastest version and from what I've read, not using the bios lowers compatibility. I guess I can try and see how it works, but I know that when I had the US bios and region selected, it wouldn't play Japanese games and vice versa. It didn't auto detect, but I'll give it a try without the bios.
  3. Ok, I've finally gotten SSF to work and recognize my controller so now I'm trying to get it to work with GameEX. Using the SSF config file, it is working great except for one thing. I'm trying to play US and Japanese games in SSF, and it requires changing the bios and region for each game. So, my question is, for those of you who use SSF, how do you get around this issue? I've been playing the Japanese Saturn version of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for all the extras not in the US Playstation version, plus I want to play Daytona USA, Virtua Cop, Manx TT, for the US Saturn. Any suggestions?
  4. Congratulations, Tom! Honestly, GameEX is like a dream come true. About a year ago I decided to build an HTPC and had planned on just using a PC remote to select my emulators. However, when I came across GameEX it sounded too good to be true. Controlling all my emulators through one frontend? Well, here it is a year later and my gaming machine exceeds all expectations by far. Thanks again for such a great program!
  5. I think I found out what was wrong. Apparently SSF only supports 480i resolution, and I have my desktop and GameEX running at 720p. So, when I go to start the emulator in fullscreen mode, whether it's in or out of GameEX, the emulator switches back and forth between 480i and 720p three or four times before finally stopping at 480i. If I leave it in windowed mode and go in the GameEX configuration mode and select yes on the show desktop option, the emulator runs fine, except it shows the menu bar and window which is not what I want. Anyone know how to change the resolution in SSF? Also, when I go to redefine keys in the controller tab, a little redefine key window pops up but I can't change anything and there's no way to close it, so I have to ctrl+alt+del to close the emu. Anyone else have this problem? edit: Well, apparently SSF is fixed at the lower resolution so there is no way to make it 720p. I don't know why it keeps changing modes like that, because Magic Engine runs at 640x480 and I have no problem with that.
  6. I've been trying to get this emu to work for the last couple of days and am having little success. I can get it to work outside of GameEX fine. When I go to launch a game, the screen goes black for a second, then I can see the little SSF window come up but the game never loads. It keeps switching between resolution modes, but the game never loads up right. I have the Daemon tools stuff set up right. I exited the game in fullscreen mode outside of GameEX to keep it fullscreen, since there is no fullscreen at launch option. Any suggestions?
  7. If she's like most women, you could've bought an HTPC for the amount she's spent on shoes. Altogether I've probably put a thousand bucks into it all, with the case, ATI Radeon 1600XT HDMI video card, 1G of ram, etc. Right now I'm using a PS2 controller to play my emulators, which is great since it has so many buttons. Still, I'd love to get something like the X-Arcade to replicate the real arcade feel on games like Street Fighter 2, 3, Mortal Kombat, etc.
  8. Right now I have is one HDD, a 320 gig, but it holds up to three of them. I haven't quite filled the first one yet, though I could if I wanted to. I actually don't have any DVD rips on it, but I do have about 120 gigs of TV shows, documentaries, and movies in avi/mpeg format. The quality isn't as good as DVD, but I did so to save space.
  9. Wow, Ridge Racer and Rave Racer put that much strain on your system? I wish they would hurry up and optimize those games in MAME. It's cool playing them in Vivanonno, but the MAME emulation is closer to the real thing.
  10. There are different kinds of HTPCs I guess. Some use them as DVRs or to control everything in their houses, from their home security systems to their TVs, stereos, etc. I have this case: http://www.nmediapc.com/htpc500a.htm . I have it in my entertainment center so it blends in with my cable DVR, HD DVD player , and stereo. I just use it as my ultimate game machine, thanks to GameEX. I love the look of amazement on my friend's faces when they see every game they grew up with playing on my 51" big screen, all at the touch of a button.
  11. How about Ridge Racer and Rave Racer?
  12. Perhaps that means that if you want to use the PS/2 jack for your X-Arcade and want to have a PS/2 keyboard hooked up as well, you need to have the keyboard hooked up to the X-Arcade when you turn the computer on for it to work. I don't think it means you have to have the keyboard hooked up at all times for the X-Arcade to work. Guys, let me know if this is correct. By the way, are all the buttons fully re-programmable? I think I read something about there being pre-set MAME settings built into it or something. Is this true?
  13. Tempest69, I'm looking for a stand-alone unit like the X-Arcade because I'm using an HTPC, not an arcade cabinet. I just wnat something I can set on the coffee table across from my big screen and play. I just came across the Hanaho HotRod and it looks really sweet, especially for the money. Orclord, thanks for telling me about having to have the keyboard hooked up at all times. I may have to pass on the X-Arcade.
  14. I'm thinking about getting an X-Arcade joystick to use with my HTPC and I was wondering if anyone here has any experience using them. I like the look of them, other than the two extra buttons being below the standard six button lay-out, and I like the idea of having two joysticks together on one unit. It looks almost perfect for Street Fighter 2 tournaments. I'd like to know if anyone has had any problems getting them to work with any emulators, or if they've had problems getting each joystick to be recognized as seperate controllers. Also, are there any other good arcade style joysticks available for the PC like the X-Arcade? Any info would be great. Thanks
  15. I've been using a Superjoybox 3 Pro adapter for my PS2 controller to play my emulators for well over a year. I decided to get another so I can play two player games, and guess what? The second controller doesn't work. When I map controls to the two seperate controllers, all the commands go to the first controller only. Has anyone had any success getting two of these adapters to work correctly?
  16. I'm using GameEX on my HTPC which is hooked up to my 51 inch Hitachi CRT widescreen television. Right now I'm trying to use either ePSXe or pSX for my PS1 needs. What I want is to keep the original PSX aspect ratio on my TV, no stretching or anything. Unfortunately, every plug-in I use for ePSXe stretches the image automatically except one, which makes the image really small on the screen. pSX has no option that I know of to keep the original aspect, plus the screen tearing is ridiculous, even with Vsync checked. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to go while keeping the original aspect? Thanks
  17. Good list, but I'm not sure about Nestopia now. It has good compatibility, but I hate that the cursor hangs around for a second or two after the game starts and hitting ESC brings up the taskbar for a second before returning to GameEX. Jnes is a really good NES emulator that works good with GameEX.
  18. Brian, apparently the Metal Gear Solid fix didn't work because he took it down. Several people tried to use it and it didn't work, so that's why it's not available now. So, any more suggestions? I thought using the PC version would work for me, but it's acting buggy on me, so I can't really use it. Nologic, have you thought of anything?
  19. Here are a few I like to check out often: http://hg101.classicgaming.gamespy.com/index.html - Loads of great articles about classic games, including comparisons of different ports of games, like Snatcher for the Sega CD, PC Engine CD, PSX, and Saturn. http://onegoodmove.org/1gm/ - Lots of good videos and links dealing with news, politics, religion, etc. http://www.retrowaretv.com/home/RWTVEpisod...57/Default.aspx - Cool video reviews for retrogamers.
  20. I'm not even blonde anymore. I thought those moments were a thing of the past, but I guess not.
  21. I just went ahead and got the PC version of Metal Gear Solid, which is probably the only PSX game with the multi-disc problem that I really care to have. I used X-Padder and it seems to be working great. I don't know of any other consoles that have this issue other than the ones you've mentioned.
  22. Well, I've been doing some reading and it looks like making one big ISO with multiple discs is more trouble than it's worth. So, I was thinking about trying out the PC versions of games like Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy VII. I've seen it mentioned here that PC games can work with GameEX. Does anyone know if it these particular games are compatible with gamepads or only with keyboard?
  23. From what I've read, there appears to be a problem with playing certain multi-disc Playstation games through ePSXe. Some games allow you to save before the end of each disc, so you can just put the next disc in and load your save state and that's it. Those are apparently no problem. However, some games expect you to switch discs while the PSX is still on without saving. I know ePSXe now has a swap disc feature so you can just load the next disc file and continue from there. However, how can this be acheived through GameEX? I haven't seen any solution to this in the forums. I've heard about there being some rips where all the game discs are combined into one ISO, thus eliminating the need to swap discs. Does anyone know how to do this, or can anyone recommend any programs to do so? Any ideas?
  24. Well, I found out what the problem was and of course, it was my fault. I was renaming my PC Engine CD games to english and while I renamed the iso and cue files, I forgot to go into the cue files and change the iso name. That is why Daemon Tools couldn't access image. So, forgive my silly rant.
  25. Well, my computer came alive again today and decided to make my Turbo CD games folder read only, therefore meaning that Daemon Tools keeps giving a "file not accessible" error everytime I try to play one of the games. I cannot mount any of them at all. I can't even make the folder not read-only. Everytime I uncheck the box and hit apply and OK, it goes right back to being read-only. This is the kind of crap that makes me hate computers. Things change for no reason. I didn't change a single thing. They were working fine earlier today and now it's all screwed up. I simply cannot get all this stuff working right at the same time because something is always changing without me doing it. Geez, I just want to smash the stupid thing and say to hell with it all.
