So, do I get to choose a favorite game for February? I'm still shaky on the differences in rules for these games and the GOTM.

Can't remember what level I was on, but I had one of the smallest spheres left and as I shot at it my time ran out. So pissed. But, I got the best score I've ever gotten. Pang is hard. 197,920

Woah, what a wizard.

Man, I love Q*Bert. I got 52k once and made it to level 4, but that was years ago. Since Gottlieb games use NVRAM my old High Scores are displayed (with correct dipswitches), but I just got 45,605 for the competition. I had 4 or 5 lives on Zone 3-Level 2, but Slick & Sam ruined everything. I don't think there's a video game character that makes me as furious as them.

Though I agree, I've always preferred Nitro Ball. I always felt Smash TV was a less exciting Robotron, whereas Nitro Ball added to the genre. Plus, 3-player is awesome. Anyways, I got 3,065,430. Beat my old MAMEUI scores.

I agree with you both. Plus if we were to accept my score, you would all have to replay using the warp zone to stand a chance. It's a good thing to know if we were ever to see a Toobin' machine in an actual arcade. I'm not above point farming in an actual arcade.

Good to hear. My girlfriend is currently in Cuba, so I've had a lot of time to myself this weekend. Good opportunity to get my foot in the highscore door. I was worried ya'll'd think I was shaking things up too much.

Oh yea, my dip switches were correct for my top score, I would've said something specifically otherwise. But personally, I'm cool with allowing the score I got for the competition (70,650). For all you know I could've gotten the 75k score 4 years ago (I think it was last summer though), and I personally feel that logging scores from that long ago takes away from the competition. Of course, if all ya'll are posting all-time high scores, I will too Since I'm moving into GameEx and ditching my old MAMEUI build, I'll be losing my savestates and highscores soon anyway (besides the old Williams games due to NVRAM), so it probably won't be an issue anymore.

Man, I'll never beat Ken or join the 20k club https://www.dropbox.com/s/2v7mmogry6ix47y/burgertimescore.png 17,500

Killed 0 Pterodactyls (You can do that?) Beat my High Score! Joust is so hard: 59,850 By the way, every time I try to post an image (at least from my dropbox), it shows up as a broken link. I was a part of a forum that used IPBoard in the past and I don't think I ever had that issue. Edit: Done

This game is a lot more fun than I remember. The "guitar" music is god-awful though. So, I went in the warp zone on level one and got: 638,637. We're not going to count that are we? Otherwise, I got 51,103. It's under DLL because I messed up. https://www.dropbox.com/s/xakg5lgisqnfxue/0002.png

Speaking of clones, Yankee Do! is hilariously fun. When digging you move about 3 times as fast. Anyways, I'm still new to this. Do we allow past high scores (if they're in accordance with the dip switch rules), or do only scores scored after the announcement of the competition count? My all-time best is: 75,450 The best score I was able to get after reading this thread is: 70,650 https://www.dropbox.com/s/cjmpk5b05r1mi4s/mrdo.png Either way, I'm miles away from Tempest. What a champ.

I'm so incredibly bad at Toobin' so I'll leave that to the pros. So, I can still play Pang or Rygar and get points toward the leaderboards but not badges or game-of-the month champion status?

Ha, I agree with you for the most part. The only clones that I actively play are Pac-Man clones (Abscam, the one with Jellyfishes, Joyman) and the Mr. Do! clone Yankee Do!, due to their different game play. Having them offset from their originals makes them more likely to be noticed by my friends and family who may not know they exist. I guess it's not offsetting that I would like, but rather grouping with the original. MAMEUI groups them together and also has the option "No offset for clones missing parent in view". I'll survive though.

Thank you so much for figuring that out! I now have it working font-wise; just gotta fix the rest of the theme now I can figure that out myself though. So I suppose that there's no Clone Offset support? If not, I definitely recommend it as a future update.

First post in a non-"help me" thread. This sub-forum is awesome. I am definitely going to hang out in this forum more if you guys have high score competitions. Came close to Han's Score, but no cigar. I beat the tar out of my default dip switch setting scores though. 101,100 https://www.dropbox.com/s/m0dxjp2zz5i7m93/timeplt.png Edit: Spoke too soon! 130,100 https://www.dropbox.com/s/03m9wlt5xsot1d3/timeplt%20%283%29.png

Doesn't make a difference. I tried normal, biggest, and smallest.

No luck. Tried changing the 1 to a 10, and then a 0 on the off chance it was a binary variable.

What exactly do I need to add to the ini? And by .ini do you mean the theme's .ini? Here are the contents of the Theme's .ini, including my changes. I notice that FontSize=1, which seems odd.

Right, I have that ticked. But when I select it I get the menu (paraphrased): >All MAME Games >Rescan Collection And nothing else. And then when I select All MAME Games, I see my collection. If I click Rescan it puts all of my games in the main MAME menu, but I have to rescan every time I reopen GameEx. But, it's not a big deal.

1 and 3 are solved and 5 is clarified. Thanks for that. For some reason your suggestion on its own didn't work but once I changed the following GameEx.ini settings it worked. CPEnabled=False CPPATH="" I was able to change the font type and whether it's bold/oblique, but I still am unable to change the font size. It always remains as the default.

Now that I've gotten my major issues with GameEx solved I can focus on all of my less major issues. If I can solve these, I'm sure I'll end up buying a registered version once I have some spare change. Solved; V2 Themes need to be Upgraded to V4 1. Escape Key Issue: When I customize controls (via the tab menu) in MAME or MESS without GameEx, hitting escape simply exits the tab menu. But, in GameEx it exits the game and returns me to the game list. Is there a way to change this? Solved 2. Clones: In MAMEUI clones are grouped and offset with their originals. Is there a way to do this with GameEx? 3. Control Panel: Before a MAME game starts, it shows me a control panel graphic. This isn't necessary for me, because I can just check my controls in the tab menu. How do I deactivate it? Solved 4. Gamelist Resolution: All of the themes I've tried out have enabled me to see about 11-17 games at a time. I'm pretty used to seeing 36 games at a time in MAMEUI/MESSUI. Is there a way to make the gamelist text smaller? I'm currently using the Red and Blue theme. 5. Does hiding the desktop (Is this what HideOS does?) speed up the load-time and quit-time of emulators in any way? I sometimes have to wait 6 seconds before an emulator returns to GameEx, so I'm always on the look out for ways to speed this up (Again, I've been spoiled by the speed of MAMEUI/MESSUI for a few years). Solved (It Doesn't) Thank you all for your continual help.
