  1. Got ya, and any input is valuable to me! Im stuck at 32" as my cab is a smaller design. I was just looking into small details i may over look like " MAKE SURE THE TV HAS THIS FEATURE OR IT WILL BE A PAIN IN THE ASS TO TURN ON" etc.... just doing my field research
  2. Hello. Im finally taking steps to finish up my pincab. Im in the market for a new 32" lcd screen for the playfield. Im trying to keep the price as low as possible, but without truly giving up performance. I dont need a 4k super monster tv, but i do want great visuals and something i can enjoy for the work im putting into the machine. How do most power their screen to turn on automatically? Should auto-power up be a feature i should look for? I did my research on input lag and response time, so i can check those specs.. Is decasing or the frame an issue or something to consider? i was just wondering What are the main quirks to consider when buying a new monitor. I need a roughly 28" backglass as well but i dont think i need anything special for that.
  3. may i ask what motherboard you are using or what i should be looking for in a mother board. Id normally assume it should have room for 2 video cards, but it seems i can get away with one? Im looking at a few cpu/mobo combos and just really wondering if the $170 mobo is justifiable or if a 70$ would do the same job? As i said pinball is a whole different beast as far as graphic and game processing so im a little lost. I found both of these for 250$ Intel Core i7-6700 3.4GHz LGA 1151 Boxed Processor Intel Core i7-4790 3.6 GHz 1150 Boxed Processor Now wondering what to do for the mobo.. Ram and HDD's all that is pretty simple. Im just lost on cpu/mobo combos and graphic cards for the most part on this build. I assume im going to spend between 200-250 on the cpu, and another 100 atleast on the mobo. Im going to search for used pre builts in the mean time. Thank you for input on the mobo. I dont know whats overkill or wasteful for that. Im going to go with one of the above cpus
  4. Hey. as i said, i dont know whats overkill and whats not. But im going to run pinballx running pinball arcade, fx2, visual pinball and future pinball with 3 screens/2 screens and dmd. Going in a pincab. I assume pinball fx2 is one of the more intensive programs. But yea, i will be running all that.. Directb2s glass where applicable and such. Basically a pincab thats going to run whatever it can to look sweet and work right with 2 screens and a dmd. If an i5 will work, then it is what it is. I just want something that will hold up over time. A used system cobbled together will probably do fine, i just dont know what to look for in the pinball department.. video card requirements, or mother board requirements in that case to accomodate video cards. Ideally a few hundred im hoping will get me a sweet system that i can drop in my system and handle the workload of a nice running system. Maybe one day throw led lights and such in it, but i know thats all just voltage power and software. Open to pre built pc links, or just list of parts. I have a local microcenter which is great for parts
  5. Hey all. I did an ample amount of research, but a lot of the articles were outdated. even a few months can drastically change prices and options. Im looking to build a pc for my pinball cab. Ill be running a 32" lcd, 28" lcd for backglass, and either real dmd, or a 3rd monitor of some sort for dmd. I use my personal pc to program my software, and my pc is a beast, but i also put a lot of money into it as its my work pc. Ill be running tables on pinball fx2 / pinball arcade, as well as visual and future pinball. I know that i7 processors are basically a minimum starting point now a days for pinball. So without beating around the bush, im hoping some people can point me towards what i need to focus on for pinball, or maybe even a pre-built rig if its worth it. I dont want overkill, i just want what i need for a sturdy system that will handle all the graphics nicely. Ive built a few PCS for arcade gaming, but the graphics and needs of pinball is a little different.. Ill be happy to supply any more information, but i just need a good system that i can throw together and drop in my cab. My software is just about done. Thank you for all your time, and i know this is a redundant question.
  6. I could be 100% wrong but this is my guess.. pinballx is simply a front end. All it does is make a fancy list of your games, and displays art of your choosing. You could have all images for your backglass and table art, or hd videos.. I dont believe there is an alternate pinballx version, but i also dont believe it would matter. I think it would depend how many games with full media youre trying to display

    Hello

for starters... you are in the pinballx forum, not the gameex forum.
  8. hey all and thanks for the help. I recently added Pinballfx2 to pinball x. Surprisingly it read everything and added all the games without a hitch! My only issue is, i cant seem to create a custom list, so i can filter the games in pinballx. In game manager, i obviously have my fx2 game list. I go to "manage groups" and add a new group, pinball fx2. This creates a new xml in "pinballx\databases\groups. But when i go to "add list to group"i cannot select fx2. There is only future pinball and visual pinball. Ive been able to filter both of those fine. If i go to "new list", it doesnt let me select fx2 as a system. So, how do i go about creating a filtered list in pinballx for FX2?
  9. this is a good post to follow, im in the same boat. Venturing from mame to pinball. Have a cab with 3 screens, and feeling overwhelmed between so many versions of everything. Its not like mame with a organized system of roms for games. Anyways, i too am interested in which direction i should be digging to not waste time. I would like as many tables as possible, that are playable and minimally glitch. I understand the work behind it, ive put hours thus far into adding 200 future pinball tables, and now starting on visual pinball. Im going to have a dmd, either lcd or real dmd, thats to be decided, but other wise the normal lcd for table and backglass. I see so many different versions of games such as plunger versions, and such. I plugged my HDD with pinballx and what i did so far into my buddies cab thats rigged up, and most of the games by default just worked with his ultrapin set up. I just would like to know what the best way to go about creating the best up to date list would be. I obtained a full clean table set for visual pinball with just about everything in it up until mid 2015. I started literally just going one by one, to make sure all libraries are added, games work, names proper, etc. But a question for the pros.. for another newbie with pincab, whats the golden standards and where would u start and work towards starting fresh..Are there particular people known for their tables? is it correct to assume newest versions are the best? Even more so, i have a digital plunger kit, and a force feedback kit. I see some tables come with ledwiz files, or have some sort of files to feed into those external peripherals to do things for the pincab. And as far as dmds... some tables have "dmd table version" and such.. whats the deal with table versions specific to external processes? Considering what i have to work with, what would YOU do to make the ultimate pintable. I have- ultracade pin cabinet empty 32 lcd screen vertical for table 28" lcd for back glass soon to be either real dmd or an lcd screen for 3rd monitor pinball wizard key encoder setup and force feedback/tilt pcb lock bar with force feedback solenoids
  10. Hey all. So ive been building mame machines for a few years now and became quite good. Over the years i dabbled with pinball, but never very much. Now for the first time, im trying to complete an empty ultrapincab i have. I have a full, complete and clean set of both visual pinball and future pinball tables. I realized unlike mame, pinball needs a lot more attention as theres many versions of games, not a good naming convention, etc. I decided to go through one by one a little every day, add games, make sure i have all the art, make sure all the games even work. Diligence right? So i first started along using art i had or found, along with hyperpin media packs and such. Soon i found that a lot of those were outdated, and began to use the multiple sources of ftps. I finally inquired about something on the hyperpin site (in regards to a hdd my friend gave me that i started off with before switching to pinballx) and they gave me a few resources such as vpuniverse for backglasses and such. Browsing vpuniverse i see a lot of nice screens and art, but now im seeing b2s glasses and such. I know i installed the server for it prior. So instead of rambling, this is my main question im getting at. Noticing there a lot of outdated info, files, and such, currently for someone who is plenty capable of learning and working for a good result, my question is, what is the current "high standard" for virtual pincabs? Meaning, "b2s glasses with table videos from xxxx site are the current best quality". etc.. As i said, ive gone in circles with old work, different versions of work. So before i spend an eternity renaming files, art, and tweaking this all to perfection, what should i account for, where should i be focusing my attention to. I went ahead and downloaded just about all the backglass and table videos from the gameex ftp, but as i said again, im now seeing that other options may be better.. again, sorry for the rambling. If you were building a pincab, and ideally you could have as many tables as possible (that work and have art) what is the most current art sources, formats, qualitys, etc. Thank you for getting me started in the right direction. Pinball is whole new ball game to me and im learning a lot.
  11. I remember i had to change some setting on the pinball arcade inputs, as well as the pinballx exit emulator key
  12. Hey guys. I frequent the gameex side often for a long time. Ive built a few mame cabinets, and other nifty little projects. In my last pedestal, i installed pinballx and vp fp etc just so my buddy can enjoy some pinball games. The cabinet was geared towards mame, but with two buttons drilled on the sides, it was a cool add on and worked well, but i never got tooo into it. Ive dabbled before, but i now have an empty pinmame cabinet, and im trying to put together the perfect hard drive so i can enjoy the machine, and share it with my friend who has one, and generally just have a good working solid system that i can use over again, like my hyperspin set up. Now, ive come to learn that the pinball world can be confusing. Ive been able to accumulate a very nice, and clean organized table set organized such as vp8 recreated,vp91x,92x etc. Between a few friends harddrives that we all work on, i basically have most of what i need as far as tables, roms, art and all that (mostly). But i also seem to have a mess of stuff as well. So what im asking is for some guidance on how to go about further organizing, and setting up the cleanest set i can. I have a folder for each version of VP as well as subfolders for recreated, flipperless, mods and hacks.. For instance, i have ace high, in my VP8 recreated tables, VP9 recreated tables, VP 91X recreated table and so on. When it comes to mame, the general consensus is, "you should only have x amount of buttons and controls, and x amount of games on one machine".. theres usually a consistent goal. As of right now, im just lost. This is just visual pinball. I also eventually have arcade pinball, fx2, future, etc. Figuring out the actual set up isnt so much my difficultly, its not understanding the roms and theory of directories and work flow for so many pinball systems... It would take forever to see what game is or isnt in one folder, and is or isnt another. Would it make sense to use the latest version of said game and disregard the others? Perhaps i can start merging them into a single folder and overwrite the older ones? Would a game work on vp9 but not vp99x. Im focusing on VP only for now. Im reading up a lot on how to set up multiple VP versions and such, but i want to know what the consensus is in the pinball world, on what a solid pinmame machine is. I will have a backscreen, and ive had good success running a 9 inch lcd hdmi screen for a dmd. What is considered fully rounded system. I only want recreated tables, not custom. As for mods or hacks, is there a beloved modder or hack line that is preferred? I dont know exactly how to direct my questions or thoughts here. Ive done tons of reading and already have setup a nice system before ,but im starting fresh here. Any advice or direction would help.Ive included a screen shot of my current folder setup. I have other folders from old setups, but theres so many scattered files i dont know whats what. back then i used to just dump all the tables into a folder. upload img
  13. My control panel has a pause button as an admin button up top.. In pinball x I set "p" as my exit emulator button so whenever I push my p/pause button it just kills visual pinball. I also disabled exit in visual pinball to case anyone his the escape key in the panel it doesn't go to the stupid editor menu. If you aren't using pinball x u can change your gamex exit key to something besides exit, since visual pinball uses exit by default to take u to the visual pinball menu. Annoying as hell and took me a while to get everything to work smooth using just a control panel
  14. Hey all.. 4 wisdom teeth getting ripped out took me out of the game for a few days but im back.. The codecs certainly did the trick. My console emus work great, although the names seem to be a mess and a lot of snaps dont work because of it, but thats another mess.. Mame is also displaying the video snaps, but i have erratic behaviour. Im going to chalk it up to the pc having such low specs.. Im gonna have the dude drop some ram in it when i give it to him. sometimes the videos take a lot of time to load, or it might even freeze for a few seconds if i pick a game that doesnt have a snap. One time it just shows regular snaps. My only question is, why did it run hyperspin fine with videos? i included my ini and such. Is there anything you guys see that can maybe speed me up a bit? or am i just lucky to be running it with so little ram and such? Otherwise, for all intents, this is resolved GameEx.ini log.txt
  15. I'm still running .149 so no worries about the new mame versions. Once the snaps work when I get home, the machine shouldn't run into any other problems. It won't be connected to the Internet and nothing will ever be done to it besides play. My personal cab is running up to date, and my new build will for sure be utilizing the new as well there's just no need to update this old pc now that it's running. If it ain't broke, don't fix it applies here big time. Super long story short a guy gave me a half finished control panel and his old computer and ask me to just finish everything up and get it up and running. He is paying me for my time and labor in the control panel but there is no benefit to going anymore out of my way besides getting it up and running with all the games which it is now doing perfectly fine. I guess for future I can now remember when upgrading old builds to make sure I have the codecs
  16. Also I vowed to not take forever it getting this one up and running. It's an old pc with windows xp. The snaps is the only problem which I'm sure the codecs will fix. Other than that I have no reason to upgrade. I can just imagine something stops working and want to shoot myself in the face. Thank you so much for the help. It's been awhile since I've harassed you all for my pedestal build
  17. I certainly did not install the shark codecs so I'm sure that's my problem. I shall try that today! You guys rock. I always installed the shark codecs but since the build was already done I forgot about it
  18. The directories are definitely not the issue I've gone over them over and over, also the regular snaps and everything else works when I don't enable the video snaps. I'll look into the codecs, but I'd like to refrain from updating everything. I really just wanna be done and it works perfectly as it is.. Minus this one snap issue
  19. Hey all. Back at it with a new computer. Some guy gave me a pretty old ass computer, but to my surprise and little expertise on actual pc builds, this thing runs everything from mame, daphne, model 2, etc flawlessly. It originally had a full hyperspin set up on it, which also ran perfectly. All the wheels, video snaps etc worked great. Naturally i had to convert my friend to the gameex world cuz ftw. So im all set up running nice, but it seems that whenever i set mame, or any emulator for that matter to show video snaps, it not only wont show anything in the snap area, but it wont show any art. I use the mame invaders theme, which shows your choice of a snapshot and a marquee on the other side. So video snaps is making it so no art shows. I know the pc can handle it as it handles everything else great. Im hoping theres some weird little setting that you geniuses know about such as threading/ other terms i dont understand lol. I will include my log and my ini. Thank you for any advice THE PC IS A DELL DIMENSION DIME521 AM 64 PROCESSOR 3200+ 2.00 GHZ, 960 MB OF RAM Im going to throw some ram in it, but as i said, if it can run hyperspin id hope it would run these. GameEx.ini log.txt
  20. ::EDIT:: So i dont know what i managed to finally do, but i suppose maybe because the roms were on a separate drive they werent loading? I copied my model 2 folder onto the main gameex drive into its own folder and it now works.. beats me.. Hey all. Quite a long time since ive been around, which i guess is good.. Anyways, im working on a new build for someone and they gave me a rather old computer, but it runs all emus and such fine. My only problem is i cant seem to get gameex to load games with sega model 2. The funny thing is, i have the exact same setup on my main working pc. Theres not many things to change around or add. I enable model 2 in gameex. I point it to the model 2 main folder in gameex settings.. I have the model 2 roms in the model 2 folder, and i copied those over to my MAME rom folder.. And as far as i know, i was supposed to change the info in the model2 ini to direct it to my MAME rom folder, not my model 2 rom folder. i included my ini and log, im hoping someone can help. As i said im basically duplicating my other pc, but for some reason this wont work GameEx.ini log.txt
  21. Thanks man. Yea, once I gave the pedestal to my friend and stopped working on it, I had no reason To shut down other than the button. It's definitely one of those things u can spend ages on figuring out and it goes right over your head
  22. just incase someone happens to come across this with the same problem. it was an easy solution i was just stupid. I have a button on my arcade to shut down the pc.. I didnt realize whenever i would delete games, then shut down via the button, gameex didnt have time to write the new file for the exluded games... So in the future if youre dumb like me, when deleting or altering lists or anything in gameex, use the gameex exit functions..
  23. If youre simply deleting them from your rom folder, you need to update your roms in gameex. Enable "update list" or something, and it should appear in your mame menu. Otherwise, if you mean youre deleting them from your list, i personally recently ran into a problem with games appearing after i delete them from the list. I go to a game, hit delete key and delete it. But now they come back. It always worked. Didnt update anything. The games come back on the next boot.
  24. here is his ini and log.. I read up on that patch above, but my question is, i havent updated gameex or anything in a long time. I gave my friend the pedestal and shut off any updates and all that. So the delete problem just started. Unless my friend managed to update his gameex and me not know? Any way, here is my ini and log.. any advice on why i can no longer delete games off of my gameex mame list GameEx.ini log.txt
  25. This is pertaining to my pedestal build for my friend. I don't have the log or ini right now. I gave it to him quite a while ago and he reported that for some reason games are showing up again on his list after deleting them. This was never a problem. Is there a max amount of lines that can fit in the "exclude Roms section or is there anything off the top of your head you can think of as to why the games are showing up
