  1. Well, I obviously had bad component(s). Not only was windows blurry, but games looked like they were in the midst of fire - the image was wavy, like heated air. Of course, certain levels of Magic Sword look like this, but it's supposed to. ben: did you get my request in the favorites.ini thread?
  2. Hm, I hadn't thought of doing that in that situation. And, I mean REALLY blurry. I think that card has died since, If I come across a tv, I have better cards now to try out.
  3. Hm. I tried it out once, but maybe the card (ATI radeon 7000) was crappy or something, cos it was very fuzzy, and it was hard to get it centered using the ATI control panel. Having messed around with advancemame a bit lately, and gotten some interesting results on my PC and presentations monitors, I'm interested in trying it with a tv, but I don't have one handy anymore.
  4. Ooop, nevermind.
  5. No no. I meant the resolution SVGA (800*600). I didn't think a standard definition tv would accept above 640*480. At the very least, I thought it was desirable to run an SD tv at that.
  6. How are you getting SVGA on a tv? And, have you tried Advancemame?
  7. - actually, a lot of people use the {new} effects on LCDs. I dont' have one, anymore, but this computer has a high-res CRT, and the lines don't quite add up with the graphics in an authentic way. The old effects, however, do. The problem is using them with hwstretch, as you get this horrible vertically graduated shading and overall dimming. On my non-switching CRT - using mame32 .104, DD, scanlines 25%, resolution set to desktop (or some specific resolution), and in some cases upping the (mame) brightness to 130 - I've gotten some very authentic-looking results. So that makes four available versions: one DD+hwstretch for each monitor (accounting for differences in display color and brighness that requires adjustment in mame), one for native, and one for scanline effects. - Jaggies? - tv?...what connection format?...what mame flavor?
  8. Actually, some might use it for various whole versions on one system. I think I was the first to ask about this...maybe a couple others have, but I think it's pretty uncommon, as most people either have an arcade monitor and run native, or they don't and they don't. In my case, I have two 27's on one system, one switches, one doesn't, and sometimes regardless of monitor I like to go nude, so to speak, with hwstretch or D3D sans effects.
  9. Since you're using Mame32, just make all the adjustments (global, per game, etc.) in that. Make sure in GE for 'display settings' to set 'resolution' to 'gameex will not change it', and GE will mimic your desktop. Always fondle and fuss with Mame (or in this case 32) by itself, first. Then see if it changes when loading through GE. Incidentally, once the ini, cfg, etc files are set through 32, one can always replace it with vanilla mame.

Am I trippin, or did the last two posts (Tom, then kaze) disappear?

Hey, kaze, I don't mind you being very blunt/telling me what to do/whatever. I like organisation and I have no problem with authority. As for putting those in the thread, it wasn't my initial intention. At the beginning, I was just giving an opinion based on certain criteria. Since Tom seemed to then want to know what my gripe was, I put those in there. Will carry on as instructed, elsewhere.

Okay. My questions are: 1) Is it possible for you to make VP set-one-path functional (and perhaps without the use of vpauto) ? 2) Is it possible for you to make Daphne set-one-path functional ? 3) Do you wish to do so on both? My issues, in diminishing importance, are: 1) Mame games missing in the lists - favorites, etc. I'm using the Mame32 favorites.ini . 2) vertical bezel not appearing. It's set 'yes' by default, so I don't know what's going on there. Further request: - making music files available as folders, same as with pictures. (This has been, repeatedly, requested by at least another.) Of course, with regard to ambience not being turned permanently off, the logistics would need to be hashed out.

In general: stability is not usability - though curiously I had the prescience stability was ben's intent. I agree. It's very stable. Tom: that there isn't massive request for VP as I request, I speculate, is due to a lot of younger attendants, many of whom probly never've even played a pin, and are console junkies. I don't do consoles, and VP is one of only three I care for. However, even with Mame, GameEx is doing something weird with the Mame32 favorites.ini: {I think} it lists all available games in 'Favorites', but not all in each sub-folder. (I admit I'm inflexible in my acceptance of any other game listing format. But as the option is available, I would like it to work properly.) Orthogonally, I do assume the possibility my computer is buggy, though on another system I've had the same troubles. Brian: oh, it's more than that. Truly. kaze: "So I would say with some confidence that GameEx actually has better built in emulator support than commercial FE's." The only 'commercial' one I know of is MA - although I would agree GE support exceeds MA's, and at least equals any other fe. I expect nothing. If something is available, I ask for it to be as simple and elegant as possible. Ben: just for clarity's sake, my tone was neutral except insofar as the first part of the first sentence was of a black humor. Really.
  15. You know, with Firefox I wasn't sure about the multi-tag-per-page thing, but since explorer 7 I've quite warmed to the idea. I can hardly imagine going back.

Um, I don't wanna bust your balls, very hard, but until Daphne and VP are one-path-click functional, and the audio player doesn't automatically load tracks, as well as stops the ambient track when a track is loaded and starts it back up when stopped (like any other media in GE does), I don't think that statement is accurate.
  17. I have vectrex working in MESS. I mean, in the GE configuration manager, there is no 'vectrex' or 'GCE vectrex', etc. - to then select paths for MESS or anything else.
  18. Maybe. I mean, I've forgotten shit over several months, but not something like that. I just take it out of the folder right then. In many cases, I haven't noticed anything wrong. Anyways, obviously it won't be a main build thing, but perhaps Mame32 or Plus could incorporate a toggle feature for it.
  19. Um, again, where is there an emulator to select for Vectrex in GE?
  20. I've wondered why this isn't like the regular disclaimer, which shows only once. You should request this at Mameworld. Or, and I think this would be LEGAL, someone could make a patch that would enable this behavior. It'd still show, just only once.
  21. I couldn't remember if I'd set this up. I looked, and I can't even find vectrex - nor GCE. ???
  22. Not to discourage from getting this, kaze, but there must be someone over at byoac in oz that can help you locate one. Rusty: by the way, using soft15khz with 'high refresh' modes means you can run native resolutions on that monitor. (Incidentally, I'd keep it for a future project.)

    main page bug?

I was at the main {GameEx} page, and clicking on any links on the left - downloads, other downloads, links, etc - just brought me back to the main page. Also: the news says the most recent version is 8.84 - but above that on the page, it says 8.88 . Anyone know anything on these?
  24. [edit]
  25. Also try something else: d/l a new copy of .109 to your main HD and try that. Also, try .108 and .110 .
