  1. Some people claim that you get more accuracy by using Kawaks. The only things I've ever noticed in MAME with NeoGeo games are that there are times when the game slows down (think Metal Slug with lots of enemies and weapons on the screen). However, this is apparently not an emulation problem. Apparently the games ran that way on original hardware too. I guess it comes down to whether the accuracy that may be gained is worth the effort and your time to set things up.
  2. First, Model2 is working outside of GameEx, correct? If so, then you just need to set the paths and enable it in GameEx with the setup wizard or advanced config tool. Either way, it doesn't require changing your filter settings at all. Once you finish setting things up, you will have to update your list though.
  3. You can change the text by going to "custom text" in the setup. I don't remember exactly what it's called, but if you use the setup wizard and search for "custom", you should see something that looks right. Also, don't forget to turn on the custom text feature after editing things to your liking!
  4. Try a different theme. DX errors are usually related to specific themes. I don't know why, they just are...
  5. That directory is also used for screen saver mode if you have the game info set to display.
  6. I figured these looked a lot like the ones that hyperspin were using. If not, my bad
  7. They are probably listed as "Not Working" for MAME. Since they aren't on the Model2 list, they aren't going to show up unless you put them in the do not filter list.
  8. Et tu, HK? Hyperspin....really? Actually, while it looks to be a resource BEAST, it has some definite potential.

If the names follow a standard, then you could always use a script (Python would be easy for this as an example) to rename the files for you. If you need the original names for some reason, you could opt to create a SymLink to the file and rename it to the desired name with this process. In Python, this is probably a 5-10 line program depending on the complexity of the naming scheme.
  10. It would be just as easy to correct the controls.ini/xml file myself rather than building the custom CP. All it takes is adding a couple of lines for each game that needs fixing. I'm not too worried about it though. I was mainly trying to help run down a bug if that's what this was. As it turns out, it's the input file, so I'm ok with it. I checked out the forum to see if there was a location to post corrections, but it looks like 1) there isn't one, and 2) the forum is basically dead since the last post was mid 2007... One thing that might be nice is a way to press a button from CPWiz that marks a CP as inaccurate and needing investigation. This could be as simple as a list of rom names in a text file. I have a notepad that I take these kinds of notes on, but if it was just a button press, I'm sure I would be more likely to keep track of it. Just a thought...
  11. No, the problem is that the controls for the game aren't in the dat file. It doesn't say what the left or right joystick do in general, but it does (incorrectly) label right/right as "rapid roll right". Basically, the controls file is not correct... I haven't looked at the xml version of controls.dat. I assumed it was the same, but I'll take a look.
  12. I uploaded the correct file this time. I have noticed the same type of thing in a few other games lately. I'm starting to wonder if it's a problem with the controls.dat file rather than CPWizard though. I'll check it out when I get a chance to see if Assault is set up correctly in that file. Otherwise, my config looks good to me. EDIT: Ok, so I'm starting to think the problem is in the controls.ini file: [assault] gamename=Assault numPlayers=1 alternating=0 mirrored=0 tilt=0 cocktail=0 usesService=0 miscDetails=Mame-wise, this game is really odd. The original game uses dual 4-way trigger sticks. However the author of the mame driver also hacked in an optional 1 stick control scheme so you can play the game with a regular single stick. Unfortunately, this hack interferes with the real inputs so you have to clear one or the other to play properly. It should also be noted that you can not rapid roll with the hack as the game requires you to press both sticks left or right at once to do a roll. Also there is a phantom button defined that is useless. Gameplay Tips: To rapid roll push both sticks in the same direction. (Left or right only) To launch a grenade push both sticks to the outside and fire when ready. P1NumButtons=1 P1Controls=Dual 4-way Triggersticks+doublejoy4way+P1_BUTTON1 P1_BUTTON1=Fire P1_JOYSTICKRIGHT_RIGHT=Rapid Roll Right I guess if I wanted it to be correct, I would need to include the extra controls myself...
  13. He had to construct an XML file for MultiMAME that tells it how to load things. It's rather complicated... Fortunately, the MultiMAME homepage has a guide on how to get Daphne to load with MAME like you are talking about. I don't know how it knows to create the list, but that's just part of what it does I guess. Since JellyBelly is now an expert, hopefully he won't mind sharing his knowledge to help others get going. I looked at their website, but felt a bit overwhelmed for the amount of time I was willing to invest at the time.

    icons messed up

Yeah, if you delete/move the data.mdb file, GameEx has a cow. You probably would be best off moving it, then installing GameEx over top. This will only replace that database with a new copy of it theoretically.

    icons messed up

Try searching for sf2.ico (for example) on your hard drive. If it's cached, you should see more than one location pop up. I doubt it's cached cause that would be quite a bit of data. My guess would be more that the data.mdb file got corrupted somehow. That's the file that GameEx creates when you update the list. I don't think it starts from scratch every time, so it's possible that once the icons got screwed up, they are still in there and not getting fixed. You might try moving c:\Program Files\GameEx\DATA\data.mdb to data.mdb.bak and updating your list again. I would consider this a long shot though.
  16. "logic"???
  17. It would be FAR too slow to play over the network (esp the internet). I've used my home network to remote login to my cab and launch a MAME game to test a config. The game played so slow, it's not even worth considering it. The GameExtender is primarily for displaying what's going on on the cab on a different display. You can publish to the GameEx web site to let others see what you are playing if you want. It won't show the game play, but it will show a set of static images of the game, the game info, etc. I personally don't use it, but there are apparently a lot of people who do. Oh, and be aware that if you use GameEx to watch movies with any Risquée content, it might be a good idea to turn off GameExtender. There have been many instances of images being displayed on the GameEx site with provocative content...
  18. I don't use the '3' key to do this on my cab. I have the P1 credit button set up as button 19 (or something) on my game pad encoder. I think I may have XPadder set up to send key '5' if I press that when MAME is running, but I don't recall. Your X-Arcade runs a keyboard encoder so the keys it outputs are actually keyboard key presses, so you can't use XPadder to reassign things. I don't think it should be a problem though. If you turn on "custom input", then you can change buttons to whatever you want. I don't know how this works with the demo mode stop button though. I've had no reason to look into it since it just works on my setup.
  19. Depends on the situation, but yes...that can be a good alternative. I was thinking about it over the weekend, and this is actually a nice way to have multiple versions of MAME setup as well. For instance, if you wanted to use an alternate emulator than MAME for certain games (Zinc, Model2, NeoRage, etc.) and have them set up as an emulator (rather than using the MAME_Loader script or MultiMAME), you could use hard links rather than copying all the roms to multiple locations. You might be able to use the emulator to point to the main MAME roms dir, but you would see ALL the roms listed in GameEx. This way, you could have only the roms you want listed for both, but only have one copy taking up space on the HDD. Lots of ways to do it. Just pointing out a nice clean way with some simple directions...
  20. I think if the codec works in Windows, you should be able to play it in GameEx. Make sure Media Player works and then give it a try in GameEx. The only problem may be the extensions. I'm not sure if GameEx filters out extensions that it doesn't recognize.
  21. I just noticed this with the latest version, but it could have started in an earlier release. After playing for a while, the back button won't let me out of the MAME game info menu. I can hit home (which is only on my keyboard) and it takes me to the home screen, but if I hit back it will go back into that game. The back/select combo that should take me home doesn't seem to work. For background, I am using custom keyboard input (A, S, D, F for buttons select, back, volume, paging). I don't think the log showed anything interesting, but I can grab one if needed. This has happened more than once, so I know it's not a one time thing.
  22. Nice work! Is this an FTP only item or will it eventually be added to the console collection torrent?
  23. The double listing is probably intensional. In some cases, you can have multiple directories for your content, so listing it twice would be the expected result.
  24. I don't remember exactly what Tom said, but as I recall, the video goes in the same directory where the emu icons are. I think you name them the same as the png. I haven't tried it since I don't have any videos that would be appropriate.
  25. Oh, that should be possible now!
