  1. I guess I'm confused why you need MAME32 in the first place. GameEx is the front end you use to launch MAME, so you don't use the features of MAME32 in any way. If you want something to help in setting up games prior to running GameEx, then you can use MAME32 for that no problem. Once it's set up, you can then run MAME with all the same files MAME32 created. If you do that, then you will need a patched MAME (to avoid the nag screen) and MAME32 (patching not required). It should be possible to use the MAME compiler to build a patched MAME32. As I said, it was discussed at some point a while back. We try to keep the forum clean, so this should be the location to find info on compiling it, but it's possible it was discussed in another thread. I would suggest the search feature on the forum to see if there's another thread that deals with MAME32 compiling. If you find something, please post a link here so the moderators can look into copying the content to this thread.
  2. Nice card, but overkill for MAME. Should be nice with D3D games though!
  3. SWEEEEEET!!!!
  4. But GameEx does support 7zip if you are registered. Maybe I'm missing something.
  5. Although play and pause are two keys on most remotes, when you have media paused on a lot of systems, the pause and play button do the same thing and just resume playing. Some systems do the same with the play button as well. I personally like the capability to use discrete commands for scripting if nothing else, but I don't see it as a huge drawback in this case. Good suggestion though.
  6. Thanks guys! Exciting stuff here.
  7. There was some discussion about compiling MAME32 in this thread. I know it's a few pages, but reading it from the beginning will be very informative!
  8. You can either buy a premade one, buy a shell and fill it yourself, or just make one from scratch. If you go with a home-made one, you can put the PC inside and have an all-in-one solution where you just plug the A/V cables into your TV. Brian built one like that, so he could advise you there. I don't really follow the premade CP discussions cause building your controls is more than half the fun! Ohhh, and saying "may need someday" should be "might want someday". You can get everything in the world and put it in a single CP (it's called a Frankenpanel), but that doesn't mean you "need" it. What you need is just a function of what you want to play and your budget. Anyway, have fun!
  9. No, if it were a 4-way there would be a physical restriction from keeping it out of the corner. The X-Arcade uses 8-way sticks.
  10. Does this happen when played outside of GameEx?
  11. If you use the export feature, then you will have a bunch of png files (one for each panel) in a directory on your HDD. These can be viewed with a modified MAME exe (using the bezel mod that HK has on his site). You can also opt to display these as the CP instead of the image of the actual CP in GameEx. If you want to display the CP prior to playing the game like you can with the built-in viewer, you will need to have CPWizard running (which can be taken care of by GameEx). I personally opt to have CPWizard running all the time so if I change the controls, I don't have to go through and update CP images. Either way works though.
  12. Once you know it works, then you have two choices. If you use this for all emulators, you could leave it running all the time. If you only use it for certain ones, then you could also choose to add a reference to it in the launch before or launch also. Depending on how the script is written, it may quit when you hit the combo. If it does, then you will want to add it to the launch command. If it doesn't, you can do either, but if you use the launch command, you will want to use a launch after 'taskill <script name>'.
  13. There may be a fancy way of using a MAP file to do this. I'm not very good with MAP files, so someone else would have to verify that. Also, I'm wondering if it would be possible to create a symbolic link to a file and use that in the 7zip file. If you could do that, then you could use the 7zip support that GameEx already has but not take all the time extracting the images (just small link files). I don't know if there's a way to do that on Windows though.
  14. You are using XPadder (or Joy2Key, or...)?
  15. Yeah, I was thinking it would be a IfWinActive GameEx...Then {Nothing}....Else remap... But then I guess there's probably also a IfWinNotActive or something to that effect as well.
  16. The AHK script will look something like: 2&r::{Escape}That's not exactly right since I know the keys are not right, but that's effectively all there is to the script. If you want to make it work only in a given app, then you can add an IfWinActive statement to it. The AHK documents are easy to understand. But, like Brian offered, you can just wait for him if you don't feel comfortable with AHK yet.
  17. Sorry, DP...
  18. Those and control keys like control, shift, alt, enter, tab, windows key, etc. You have 26 number keys plus some symbol keys and space bar. I would avoid using others unless you have to. That should be plenty to configure the vast majority of things unless you want 4 player N64 or something...
  19. To each their own as far as which CP viewer you use. There are a number to choose from (CP Viewer, Johnny5, CPWizard, GameEx built-in viewer, etc), so whichever you like is fine. I don't know why you wouldn't like CPWizard (it's easier to set up and much more powerful), but you may run into problems getting support for the built-in one. I don't know if it's really possible to modify it significantly. I played around with it way back, but gave up due to it's limitations. Pretty much any other CP viewer that you look at will be more powerful and easier to set up. If you are concerned with seamless integration into GameEx, then I highly recommend CPWizard over all other options (including the built-in viewer).
  20. No problem. I only say something because the last topic to discuss this was in the last month or two. I don't think much has changed in that time.
  21. Isn't that what you asked for? Several people's opinion. That thread has opinions of at least 4 heavy contributors to the forums, so I would consider it a pretty good discussion.
  22. I don't like to be "that guy", but did you search the forum? There's been several threads recently discussing your exact question. The threads included lots of pros/cons as well as references for info and drivers. If you can't find anything, I'm sure we can point them out.
  23. It's not in the setup programs, it's only in the Advanced Emulator configuration files. Each emulator can have an advanced config (or you can use the same config for all of them). If you look near the bottom of these files, you will see "combo exit". You can enable/disable it here and set the keys by putting 'true' after the key.
  24. What game is that? I'll be sure to avoid it. I can't think of a worse way to spend a day than getting smacked around by junk!
  25. I guess I'm confused what the problem is then. Maybe it's not really a problem... GameEx has the ability to quit a game via a game pad combination. This is useful if you use one or more game pads to play your games and you don't have a button or don't want to dedicate a button to quit. The default combination is (as I recall) Up + Left + Buttons 1-3. If this is turned on in the advanced config for the emulator, then holding the combination for a couple seconds will exit. This isn't a "crash", it's a designed in feature. I don't know that this is what's going on, I'm just guessing with the details I'm seeing. I think this is an option in GameEx for MAME as well, but I'm not sure where to adjust it.
