  1. If you are using a VGA monitor, then why do you have it set to 640x480 resolution? Things would look MUCH nicer if you upped that to at least 1024x768...
  2. First, I'm pretty sure the goal of the database project is to include all retail games, so I think all known commercial games should be included. It's not based on No-Intro strictly speaking...AFAIK. Second, these databases are simply Access mdb files, so you could just add your own games in if you choose. There's no need to have a switching feature, just add the data you want in there. Flash and/or HK might include it in the official database if you provide the data for them.
  3. When you are using MAME, it's not an issue because it can't use XPadder inputs (assuming you are using a build after v0.117). When I set up other emulators, I either use the joystick inputs or a common set of keyboard inputs. That way I only have to set up one layout. I actually have two set up though. One generic and one blank layout. I always switch to the blank layout when a system doesn't need XPadder, but it's not required.
  4. Yeah, I figured the reason they were so big was due to mpg/ogg encoding used in Daphne. Since these run fine with any version of Daphne and look decent (at least on my SDTV) I can't see an advantage currently to go to the MAME LD releases (other than for accuracy...which is the primary focus of MAME. At 10-13GB per vs up to 1.5GB, I'm thinking I'll stick with Daphne for the time being. Thanks for the input!
  5. I was thinking it might have something to do with your video settings in Windows. You are running a Radeon x1650 (very similar to the x1300 pro I'm using) and connecting to TV out I presume. I'm not seeing anything wierd going on, so I'm a bit stumped...
  6. Depends on what your goal is. If you are trying to reduce the list to a more manageable size, you can use the filters like Adultery suggested. In my case, this reduced my romset from ~7000 to ~2000. There's stuff in there I would never play, but I leave it in there in case someone else might want to play it. BUT, I don't have duplication (US, JAP, RevB, etc) for each game in MAME. If on the other hand you are trying to reduce the size of your romset's footprint on your hard drive, that's more difficult. If that's your goal, I'll wait to hear it before I start thinking about how to deal with it (non-manually).
  7. I've been playing around with Daphne over the last few days and have most of the available games set up. I've just noticed that the LD-CHD's available for MAME are the same as a few of these (Firefox, M.A.C.H. 3, Us Versus Them). Anyone know which system emulates these games better? I'm thinking things would be cleaner if they were included in MAME, but they seem to take up WAY more space (probably due to the use of encoding for Daphne). Does MAME have any performance limitations when playing these (like Seattle games)? Unless there's a big advantage, I'll likely stick with Daphne for the time being, but I'd like to hear any opinions that people have.
  8. Post a log file.
  9. I knew what Tempest meant after reading the post 3 times. I don't see the problem
  10. Alpha paging works with my GP-WizRX as of 9.87 (released yesterday). BUT, I use XPadder to convert the joystick inputs into key strokes and have joystick inputs turned off in GameEx.
  11. The only reason a game wouldn't show up for an emulator other than MAME is the file extension. If you have a filter set up to show only *.nes (for NES obviously), then it will only show the rom files with that extension. If you add new ones that are zipped, they won't show up obviously.
  12. Make sure your Zinc options include the config file. Just creating one and having it in the directory doesn't call it.
  13. I know you were trying to keep new users happy by keeping things simple from here on out, but I'm really happy you made it possible to turn off this setting for specific emulators. I personally just went through and created a directory for unused roms which is located in a subdirectory. Since the goal of GameEx is to make your gaming/HTPC system as clean as possible and an easy, user friendly setup, the more customizable the features are, the better. <drooling> Downloading now... </drooling> Thanks for these updates Tom!
  14. If you just rename the text for "Cartridge" or "Box Art", it will take affect for all emulators. That's surely not what you want, so I concur with frequency in suggesting the custom art inputs. I don't know if these are unique for each emulator or if they are linked for all emulators (I've never used them to this point).
  15. I noticed in XPadder that one of the analog sticks on my Logitech controllers thinks it's being pushed up slightly when I'm not touching it. If I had something mapped to that controller, I imagine it might think that it should send that assigned button. This isn't an issue for me, so I haven't looked into it, but I suspect that I could simply recalibrate the controller in the Windows control panel to straighten it out. So, to answer your question with another question...have you tried recalibrating the controller to make sure it's not screwed up?
  16. That will do!
  17. I know there are a few Access readers, but I don't know any off the top of my head that can write. I have Access at work and at home, so I've never needed to use one of those options.
  18. WOW, roms in sub folders...SWEET!!! I'm at work now so I can't look for myself, but I would like a little clarification. Is the roms in folders feature always on (meaning you can't turn it off), or is it on by default thus requiring a setting modification if it's not needed/desired? I'm assuming the latter, but some of the comments have confused me.
  19. That's the only way to modify the game settings for Model2. Load emulator.exe, load a rom, configure the controls, repeat. The only alternative you have is to determine what the default keys are and remap your buttons to the defaults. On the up side, there's only ~50 games (much less than the 7000'ish in the MAME set).
  20. GameEx runs the videos using the codecs you have set up in Windows. It won't use WMP, but if they don't play in WMP, they won't play in GameEx.
  21. Yeah, I figured I might be able to fix one up. I was just wondering if there was a set already finished (so I can continue to be lazy )
  22. I think this is related, but.... I was just about to finally switch over to a V4 theme last night (yeah, I know, I'm slow). So I downloaded the Theme-Database pack and put the files on my cab. When I went to select a new theme, I only saw one v4 theme in there (Glossy). I thought there were a bunch of new ones (including the ones from the competition last fall), but I can't seem to locate them. In the end, I'm hoping to use Flash's upcoming theme, but in the mean time I was hoping I might be able to use something similar to RedEx. If one doesn't exist, I guess I could just modify RedEx to V4. Anyway, anyone know where those are linked?
  23. I was debating if I should point out the broken links the other day, but I figured they were pointing to the new server and the files weren't there yet. I noticed you have a lot of new content up there including Virtual Boy stuff. Nice work!

    Boot up time

Is Zinc set up as an emulator or are you using the built-in Zinc support? When I run Zinc via the MAME_Loader script or with the built-in support, it works fine.
  25. Sorry to bring up an old topic, but I've been playing around with the Launch Also command and found the same thing. Is there a trick that I'm not aware of to make a command run when it has arguments? It seems like that's the real problem here. Anyone?
