    which os?

The home versions should be ok, but there are times when they skimp on some components people want. Most of the time these things are related to networking and multiple users, so it doesn't affect that many people. I personally would always opt for a Pro build whenever possible.
  2. I assume you are asking about MAME? If so, go to the General Tab and find "UI Cancel". Set that to whatever you want to use to exit.

    which os?

Do you have a 64-bit CPU or not? If so, then you should consider either XP64 or Vista64. If not, then XP works great. There are many people who use Vista (which should work fine with GameEx), but that sometimes causes issues with certain emulators.
  4. I've found that I have to launch XPadder from the command line, then launch it a second time with the command line parameters in order to get it to load correctly every time. I'm not sure why, but that definitely works. Also, I found that GameEx doesn't like command line parameters for "launch before". I built a set of batch files for each XPadder config and launch that from GameEx instead of the exe directly. Hope that helps.
  5. Sometimes it is quicker to start over than to fix an existing problem.
  6. Maybe a mod can move the post for him?
  7. Sorry, I didn't realize you hadn't remapped the controls yet either. The first step is to tell MAME that you are using a mouse. The second step is to remap the controls to the mouse as needed. If you skip either step, you won't be able to get your trackball functioning.
  8. Oh, I see what you are saying. Yeah, you need to configure MAME/MAME32 with it's own setup independent of GameEx. The exit key in MAME/MAME32 is under the General tab called "UI Cancel". Glad you got it going!
  9. I think the problem is that GameEx uses the x-/y-axis for control and it ignores the POV/hat switch. If XPadder works, then it's definitely showing up in Windows.
  10. What game(s) are you talking about? If you are talking about the modern ones (Seattle based titles like NFL Blitz), these games take a monster machine to emulate. I don't think I've had a problem with the system locking up like you described though. On the other hand, since I know they won't play right, I don't ever load them Perhaps you could post a log file from when you experience this problem. It wouldn't hurt to include the runitgame.bat file either.
  11. You could have GameEx launch XPadder for you. Alternately, you could set up custom joystick inputs and remap the inputs to your controls.
  12. I was going to suggest the same thing, but since I don't use NullDC it seemed in poor form to suggest something I'm not familiar with Historically, DC games were always released in cdi (Disc Juggler) format. I don't remember the reason ATM, but there was something about that format being more compatible for some reason. Bin/cue wasn't around at that time, but if the emulator can support it, it should work.
  13. I guess I'm confused. You can use GameEx with 2-4 buttons just fine. By default, the 'Enter' key is select, so maybe I'm not understanding what you need. If you are asking about the dialogs where you are confirming a selection (delete a rom, update the mame list, etc.), you use the select key which is 'enter' by default.
  14. I don't run a vertical cab, so I can't say for sure. I was pretty sure that GameEx switched the mouse to work correctly though. So, if you are rotated 90° then the mouse axis should be switched. I don't think there's an option though (I've never run across one in either config tools). You might look in the gameex.ini file directly, but again, I've never seen anything.
  15. The runitgame.bat file doesn't have -mouse nor is mouse set to 1 in the mame32.ini file. You need to either add the command line switch or edit the ini file. That *should* get it going.
  16. Hold on a second. Are you running MAME or MAME32? They use different ini files historically (I think the most current releases of MAMEUI32 are using the standard mame.ini now). Make sure you are working with the right ini file!
  17. I looked a while back, but didn't find them. I have a few more in my list now, so perhaps I can figure it out at this point. I would start by looking in data.mdb though.
  18. That feature is new (less than a month), so it's possible that it could have been slightly changed in the last few weeks.
  19. It looks like this software is simply an augmented driver, so it shouldn't affect performance. The only downside is the ~6kb it will take up in hard drive space.
  20. Are you using the current version of GameEx? Is it possible that this option was added/removed to/from the version you are using? I'm not at my cab so I can't verify what it looks like on my system, but a couple other users see it. Odd... Oh, one other thing you could try. If you want, you could open up the gameex.ini file and find the entry for enabling/disabling that feature and set it there. You should be able to do it in the config app from what others have said, but those apps are just front ends for the ini. There's no reason you couldn't configure it manually if necessary. I'd suggest making a backup prior to messing with things manually though
  21. Is this for MAME or only for other apps/emulators? There is a hide desktop option that could cause this, but it shouldn't be a problem for MAME. If that's when you see the problem, I would also guess resolution changes. Can you post a log from when you see the problem?
  22. Are you using a mame.ini file (or I guess mame32.ini) or are you sending all of your configuration info to MAME on the command line. Post the contents of the runitgame.bat file after playing a game. Also, if you are using a mame.ini/mame32.ini file, post that as well. Oh, and btw, we try to avoid talking about how we get roms on this board. Just leave it at "I'll try rom xyz" rather than discussing about downloading it. The strict rule involves no discussing locations, but you know...

    Mameworld?

Summary from BYOAC was that the domain registrar didn't do their jobs and so the site is down due to their screw-up. Hopefully noone else will jump on the domain name before it gets straightened out!
  24. Basically all you need to do is turn on custom backgrounds and put the appropriate background name in AFAIK. Just make sure they backgrounds exist in the theme you are trying to use.
  25. Dump Joy2Key and use XPadder. It does everything that Joy2Key does but with lots of other features...including full command line support.
