If you are going to rewrite anything, PLEASE make it possible to use multiple keys for the same command. I would really like the ability to use two buttons for escape (in my case P2 up + P2 down). I would also like to have multiple keys perform the same task (P1 and P2 could control the FE without needing to use XPadder or a key remapping script. Other than that, I think the Setup Wizard made most things easily accessible as long as people know it's there. Thanks for considering my plea
-
Thanks for the post! I was thinking about writing a simple script to do this, but now I don't have to

GameEx tells Model2 where to look for roms (your standard MAME rom directory). If you don't want it to do that, you can either make the model2 ini file read only or use a loader (such as MAME_Loader) to strip the undesirable command line parameters.
-
Silly question perhaps, but do these roms exist in your rom directory? If you have them in the do not filter list and the file doesn't physically exist, it might not show up in the list.
-
FatMatch is being developed currently. If you have suggestions, you should definitely post them in the thread. I think your comments would be valuable additions over there. Ideally, there would be a way to list what you have in a quickly reviewable table to see what you have, don't have, etc (like you suggested). It seems like this data should be available in the same program that matches/renames the files for you.

Yeah, I don't know. I haven't stepped up to 0.130 and may just wait a bit since I really don't want to mess with my CHDs until things are stable. I know I can get them again, but I don't want to wait if I screw them up. On the other hand, I have backups on my server, so I guess I could just go for it...
-
Haha, now the pressure is on. DON'T DROP THE BALL!
-
Is this related to direct input? I had problems with it turned on.
-
I didn't include the whole whatsnew.txt file since it's big, but this change apparently started with 0.130. It just seems to be documented better in the u1 release, so I suspect this is what's going on. If you wanted to check, you could try running the chdman command and creating a new file to try with 0.130. The documentation I read indicated that things should still run (once you delete the diff data for the chd), they will just pop an error.
-
Just found a possible reason for this in the whatsnew.txt file for 0.130u1: 0.130u1 ------- IMPORTANT NOTE: The CHD format has undergone a change with this release. The main reason for this change is to include some of the key metadata into the hashes for the CHDs. This ensures that the metadata is valid and prevents abuse. The first impact you will find is that all of your CHD differencing files are invalid. Just delete your "diff" directory contents entirely. The second impact is that all your existing CHDs will warn you that they have incorrect hashes. This is expected. Your old CHDs should still work fine, so if you can live with the "bad ROM" warnings, you don't really need to do anything. However, if this bugs you or you want to be "clean", you can update your CHDs, using this command line: chdman -update <chdfile> <newchdfile> for each one of your CHDs. This will take a while, but will produce CHDs that match the new checksums posted in the drivers. This means that ALL CHD GAMES are broke now...

You could have it combined or separate. If you combine the two apps, don't make it mandatory to produce all the files (as you said), make it an option. I think it would be a very good thing to have some way of doing this so that you could poll MAME itself rather than being reliant on potentially outdated input cfg files. The problem I see is that you would be requiring people to download the source for MAME (unless you can get this data from the xml file MAME generates).

I'm no expert on codecs, but I know that just uninstalling what you have and installing a new one won't necessarily fix things. If you miss the codec that your media is using during the uninstall, the new one still won't be used. There are tools available to see what codecs are installed and being used that would help with this. Also, a good codec will include an application to pick what you want to use. I know the Vista set includes such a utility and you can manually change what's used for different streams.

Damn it! That means I've got to go rename my sets now Thanks Tom!
-
So are you planning on changing the way CFG Magician works now? I mean, you currently take a directory full of cfg files and add the controls to them based on what controls are available for the game in the blank cfg. With the info from the drivers, you could see what's needed and build the file without needing the blank files? I'm not weighing in one way or the other, just curious?

VirtualDub is probably the one I used. It sounds familiar anyway. I vote for no audio in video snaps. That's the easiest thing to do and it can improve performance of the system considerably.
-
If it's a single pop at the beginning of the file and you can verify that it's present in the file (not a codec issue), then you might just want to edit the video to remove the first second of audio. There are tools out there that I've used in the past that allow you to tweak the video and audio layers separately and then recombine. I can't remember what the tool is called (I used it for transcoding video from my Tivo as I recall), but you might be able to find it at one of the following links: http://www.doom9.org/ http://tivocommunity.com/ http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/ Sorry, it's been a long time since I used it, but it was awesome! Maybe there's an easier way that someone could suggest...

I'm not the best one to clarify this (HK, Tom, or GreatFlash would know for sure), but there are 4 fields containing names in the databases. The first one "Name" is the displayed name of the rom. The next 3 are for No-Intro, GoodName, and TOSEC. In order for the game to show up, it must match one of the 3 set names. The "Name" field is usually the same as the No-Intro field, so you should be good if you match that field. If you are creating a database, make sure you have the name in both "Name" and one of the other 3 fields.

I just looked at the code and I don't know why I didn't see that in the first place...it's on one of the first lines of code and documented pretty clearly that it will turn off the raw input system. Thanks for the advice, I'm going to check this out now!
-
No problem. Have fun!

I can't compare since I've only ever owned GP-Wiz products. They work fine. RandyT has provided good support when needed. For reference, I own a GP-Wiz32 and a GP-Wiz32RX.
-
Short answer...you can't. Longer answer would be you could use flat menus to get the same effect.
-
I highly recommend talking to Circo or GreatFlash about this. Circo made the vast majority of emumovies content. I know Flash has been helping out on some systems, so he might be able to advise on what Circo recommends. I know others can make recommendations, but it seems like asking the expert would be prudent.
-
Wow, that's it! I'll give it a try. Thanks for the input.

Not to put you off from your build, but you should make sure you have a plan for what you want to play on that machine. If you want it to play all emulators, then this should be a decent rig. If you are looking for certain systems (maybe a selection of older systems), then you don't need that much power. I think the MiniITX systems are great and have considered a build many times over the last few years, but the price always kills it for me. You can go just slightly larger and save a bundle and get more power. Oh, as far as what you have there, it looks like good specs. If you are really going to build this and want to know about a budget, make sure you add in the extras. This doesn't include mounting stuff or other extras (superficial stuff). You will probably have $50-$100 in other stuff you didn't expect (unless you have a lot of misc crap laying around...like some of us do ).
