  1. That option enables GameEx to use the hiscore data. It doesn't have anything to do with whether MAME is compiled to include support for hiscore.
  2. It may never happen if you wait until you are finished. I've had my first cab since 2005 and I'm still not "finished". The second one has only been here for ~3 years and I'm almost content to call it done.
  3. This has been discussed in the past and there might even be info in the FAQ about it. Basically, the license is good for one computer, but it's intended for personal use. As such, there is nothing stopping you from using it on more than one computer you own. This system is based on trust that the user won't abuse this and share the license with others. Should that happen, Tom has stated that things will have to change. That being said, there is no *requirement* that you pay for more than one license. There are people here that only use one copy on a single computer that have donated multiple times. What I'm getting at is that you only have to pay once, just do the right thing and don't abuse the system. Oh yeah...WELCOME and have fun!!!
  4. Agreed. Password protection has been requested many times by several people. So far, it's not available. At least there is something to make due with for the time being now. Have fun!
  5. I would personally just look into EmuMovies rather than creating videos from scratch. There is a discount for registered GameEx users.
  6. Same solution. Check out the multiple profile option in the newer versions of GameEx. I *think* it will do what you want. There is no password protected content option in GameEx any other way, so that's the only option I can think of.
  7. That might be problematic though. GameEx calls MAME for updates so unless CoinFX also passes those commands on, GameEx will fail during updates. When I was using a wrapper for multiple versions of MAME, I had to use the AdvanceMAME setup and keep a standard version of MAME there for updates.
  8. The CHD's changed in a recent version of MAME. If you have updated your version of MAME to something current (last 6 months or so) and haven't updated your CHDs, then no CHD based game will work. There is a utility that the MAMEdevs released to update your CHDs that you may want to look into.
  9. If you are asking if there's a way to keep kids from seeing porn games (for instance), then not exactly. You can however set up different profiles for users. I'm not sure (I've never used it), but it might be possible to have passwords on different profiles. It's a new feature in 10.38 or 10.39.

    newbie questions

Sometimes the autoupdate feature gets broken. If you do a manual install, it will usually start working again.
  11. This is where GameEx gets the information for the attract mode. It appears that GameEx is pointing to it's default location. If you want to use updated files (I don't know how old the stuff that comes with the install is), you can put them in that location or put them elsewhere and update those links. Now, I don't know why the info isn't loading for you. Looking at the log file, it appears that it's grabbing the controls.ini file correctly, but I'm not sure if it says anything when it loads the other files. My first thought would be to make sure those files are there and have data in them. EDIT: Ok, I went and looked at another log file and it does not say anything different from what you have here. I'd still check that those files are not empty, but otherwise, I'm not sure.
  12. Post your log file.
  13. Make sure the paths are all set up correctly. The information that's displayed during attract mode is drawn from files that the paths point to. If you don't tell GameEx where to find those files, it can't display the information.
  14. I don't think it's possible.
  15. Hehe, just trying to stir things up a bit.
  16. Oh, well in that case.
  17. Interesting that HK wrote this in the middle of last year IIRC and there was mild attention. Now that it's released in the main app, it seems to be more popular. Maybe people like Tom better.
  18. You could use the run also line. If you use the launch before, it will wait until the app's process ends to launch MAME, which is not what you are looking for.
  19. FYI - hiscore support is not available for all games. Make sure the game(s) you are trying to play are included in the set that does work. If not, then you will just have to wait until support is added.
  20. The first step is almost always to post a log file. Without that, not much can be done other than make blanket suggestions.
  21. Version 0.103 should work fine if I remember correctly. I believe I was running 0.107 recently (gun games) and I don't think anything changed between the 2. MAWS shows info all the way back to the beginning when any rom was first added, so it should say when it was fixed if it's been updated. But yes, it's not going to be listed at the top if it's changed between 0.103 and current.
  22. You can add the working games to the "exclude from filter" list, but that could be tedious. Perhaps MAME is reporting the ones that work as not working even when they load? If you have an example rom, you could let us know. That way, someone can check the details on MAWS to see what MAME reports it as.
  23. There are some guides in this thread on how to compile non-standard versions of MAME. I don't think MAMEXT64 is one of those, but it might be close enough to fake it. And yes, compiling with the hiscore patch disables the 'ok' screens that you are referring to.
  24. What games are you asking about (console or MAME)? The MAME stuff is all processed when you update your list and goes into the data.mdb file. You can update that file as you wish, but if you update your list, all changes will disappear. If you are talking about console games, it depends on how you have them set up (database or MAP file). Either way, you can edit that file and it will remain indefinitely.
  25. No worries!
