  1. There has been discussion of an onscreen keyboard, but I'm not aware of anything built in to GameEx. You might be able to find something in one of the threads that discussed this (do a forum search). I don't know why you need a keyboard though, since you can use the search feature to find anything you want. It's obviously not as fast as a keyboard, but it is usable.
  2. Did you try using HK's MAME Compiler 64? If you use that, it's REALLY easy! I've compiled without it, but that can be tricky if you aren't familiar with how they do things. If you have any problems with using HK's program, post in that thread and someone will be able to get you going.
  3. If you compile your own version of MAME, you can disable the messages like you are asking about.

Would have been nice to know what the actual problem was, but at least it's fixed!
  5. Turn on alpha/paging. When you hold the alpha/paging key and press up/down, you will scroll one page. When you hold down the button and press left/right, you will scroll one letter. Have fun!
  6. I just wanted to point out that when I went to install the update using auto-update I got an endless loop like others have reported in the past. When I shut down, I noticed a window in the background (couldn't see what it was since it disappeared too quickly). When I started up again I still got the update notice. This time, after updating, I alt-tabbed and found that there was a notice about .NET 2.0 SP1. Perhaps this is what's causing issues for some people. Thanks for another update Tom!
  7. +1
  8. If you set MAME to do an auto state save then, when you start a game after exiting, you will see the exact same screen as when you quit. So if you are playing Pacman and quit in the middle of a game, when you start the next time you will be able to play at the same point in that game. As a result of saving the state in this way, you should have all of your high scores saved for any game that supports save states. There is another way to save your high scores that requires compiling your own version of MAME. If you apply the high score patch as mentioned in the MAME compiler thread it will save the high scores to a text file that will then be loaded again the next time you start the game. http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=4375
  9. Sorry to hear things haven't been going well for you and your family. Hopefully the worst is past and things will improve moving forward.
  10. I found a guide that included all needed files for MESS 0.37 IIRC. I played around with it for a while and found that, although it did play the games correctly, it had a lot of lag problems. Perhaps it was something similar to -triplebuffer, but either way, it wasn't that impressive. Considering I was running on a X2 5200+ processor Win7 x64, I expected more. I played with Classic99 for a bit and was pretty impressed with it. It even includes all roms and bios that Texas Instruments owns the rights too since they gave the author permission to use them. The emu looks great and performs well. The only problem with it that I see is that it doesn't appear to support command line launching of games. If I went that route, I'd have to put together a wrapper to launch games. Of course, I may need one anyway since I don't really want to break out the keyboard if I don't have to.
  11. Well, I grabbed the latest version of MESS which includes the UI version apparently. I put my roms in the software directory. I put my bios in a BIOS directory. I then pointed MESS to those paths. BUT, I'm getting an error asking for some missing files. I don't have the emulator in front of me, but it was something like U60xx.xxx etc. I'll have to verify paths, but none of those files match the bios or rom file names. I'm obviously missing something. Perhaps a better question I should have led off with is... What emulator do you recommend for TI-99/4A in GameEx? MESS isn't usually (from what I've read) the preferred emulator for most systems. I've tried others in the past, but never with GameEx integration or the arcade cabinet in mind.
  12. That is something that you would need to configure in the emulator. MAME can handle save states for many games. Other systems (N64 for instance) can save the saved games, but not necessarily the save states, by default. If you want to save the state for those emulators, you will probably want to define a key to save and another to restore.
  13. I haven't messed with MESS in a LOOOONG time. I don't remember at this point how to even set up the directory structure so I can get things going. If anyone can post a link to a tutorial, that would be awesome. Thanks.
  14. Something is stealing focus from GameEx. Check what other programs you have loading and figure out which one is the culprit. It could be something in the system tray (the old Divx codec did this for instance).
  15. Post a log. This has happened in the past with older versions of GameEx. I can't remember what the resolution was, but the log may say something that helps point to the problem.
  16. Yeah, but I called it the "Config Wizard" which is totally wrong.
  17. The easiest way to find settings is to use the search feature in the Configuration Wizard. I don't remember where hybernate is located, but my guess would be enable/disable features.
  18. You should be able to turn off updating in the settings. There is a reason GameEx is trying to update thought. It might be worth the effort to figure out why it's trying to update.

Are you talking about MAME or other systems? MAME is the only emulator that needs the update, so I assume that's what you are asking about.
  20. It's all opinion, but most people seem to use this order: No-Intro -> Goodsets -> Tosec
  21. Hmmm, I went to http://kab.net/, but I don't think that's what you meant.
  22. Interesting. I read most threads, but apparently I skimmed past that one. Yeah, this can't be an issue with a single card either since Stu had an Nvidia card and this one is a Radeon.
  23. Damn Tom, I'm lovin this! Street Fighter Alpha 2
  24. XPadder was becoming the best option out there for a while. Unfortunately, the development more or less died off when the developer realized his bills were more than the fun he was having (my interpretation, not his words by any means). You can currently pay for the application and get the updates as they are released, but I haven't heard of any new updates in quite some time. Anyway, glad you got things going! EDIT: Hmmm, interesting. It appears that there was a new version released last month!
  25. Nope, but that is a nice joystick she's got there!
