  1. SOLVED OK, after much trial and error, finally got hings working. My advice to newbs like me is thus: 1. Go through the setup and install the Win UAE emulator. 2. Go to this page : http://headsoft.com.au/index.php?category=winuaeloader 3. Download one of the romsets there (I used the WHDLoad ones - but be warned - registration required to remove nag screen on emulator - £15) 4. Download and install WHSUAE Loader 5. Follow the instructions on the page - you'll need some bios's - install as instructed 6. Use GE emu installer to install WHSUAE loader 7. (optional) if you want your game names pretty, use the "create mapfile" on UAELoader (file will be under the WULoader folder somewhere 8. Install this map file to gameex map folder 9. Under advance emu config - point to the mapfile in gameex Great work to the chap who made WinUAE Launcher Steve ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OK, my usual request! Need to set up Amiga emulation via Winuae. Did the usual - downloaded this via GameEx - didn't work. I have: Romset + bios of format: [gamename] ([Region]).zip As usual, ended up going round in circles, downloading extra software (WinUAE Loader + GameBase) - just ended up getting more confused! Could anybody please assist with a simple guide on how to get this set up? Many Thanks Steve
  2. P.S. "debug" Frequency -where would I find that?
  3. Thanks folks. Took the path of least resistance: Installed ProSystem. GameEx default setup left it in small window, so for others setting this up, couple of mods to the default GameEx and ProSystem settings: GameEx: Command line - ProSystem.exe -Fullscreen 1 -MenuEnabled 0 "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" Also on Prosystem, has awful buzzing sound. Choose: Options>Sound>SampleRate>11025 Cheers Now onto Daphne >.<
  4. Thanks chaps, will revisit tomorrow when less bleary eyed. Using the Mess downloaded by GameEx! Think it's 0.145 (in the messnew.txt file) cheers
  5. OK, Next Emulator, next headache! Went through GE emu installer - installed Mess for Atari 7800. Kept all default settings. Rom path's correct. Tried with and without 7z option enabled - no joy! Just goes black on launch then returns to GE. Still can't find clear, current setup guides for each emulator. As the default rarely works, would it be worth an experienced GE user setting up a separate topic with stickies for each system? Just a suggestion. Anyways - can anyone help?? Thanks
  6. Thanks KRC. After a full day's work + only about 20 made - not sure my employment would stand a "full set." !! Tempest - you're a star. I'm sure I looked there... Right onto Emulators... not sure what best form is given I'm using someone else's theme - to start a new post or not? Cheers chaps
  7. Hi folks. OK this one's got me stumped! Love the theme, Rage, but redesigning the different logos. So far done the start page and now tackling the Mame section! Wow - designing all these is quite cool at first, but soon gets tedious + repetitious! I digress - normally, just replace the logo graphic with one of my own making and rename it to the 'old' logo name. However... in the mame menu, there's a sub-menu called "not played" - it has the standard 'futuristic floppy disc' type of icon in red. However - I can't find it anywhere!! Not in the theme's folder, nor in any of the other themes (I wondered if it'd revert to a default in the event of not finding). This is really gonna spoil my themed subsections - where is it, or how do I point Gameex to a new logo for this sub-section? I've had a look at theme-editor and can't make head nor tail of it! [EDIT: OK here we go - can't find CHD Games either - what's going on!] [EDIT 2: Add "Live - GameEx Favourites" to the list] [Edit 3: Also Add Sega MOdel 2] Thanks in advance. Oh and here's a few logos been working on..... Steve
  8. Hi RageOn, Is there any way to display the name (and possibly platform) of any games videos being diaplayed on the various 'home' pages? e.g. when hover over a platform or mame - display random videos from these Not sure if this is theme or whether gameex settings! Thanks
  9. SOLVED: Yet again, problem seemed to be around using the "7z/zip..." option on the advanced emu config. Had this as "yes." Unchecked (to presumably disable built in unzipping facility). Have an unzip exe in the WinVice directory. Also removed -autostart from command line. So... just sends -fullscreen and zip file to WinVice - emu does the rest Oh, and one more thing - make sure you're using WinVice 2.3, not 2.2. The fullscreen functionality on the latter is dodgy Another day, another gray hair...
  10. Well - had to use someone elses script tbh - just tweaked - but also made more logical sense than trying to guess what's in the black box. Thanks for the recc - but really really really with getting all this set up: "If it aint broke - don't fix it!" lol - cautious about 1 tinker too far!
  11. Thanks null. In the end, I gave up trying to rely on gameex's integrated mountdisk and unzip support, and used a batch file which calls 7z and then mounts to DTLite. Hard to tell what's going on inside the black box! thanks for your response
  12. Thanks Tempest - that explains the basics in theory, but hard to apply to my specific situation. Thanks for the relevant; clear and step-by-step response, Goodchild. However, doesn't work, sadly! I think it may have something to do with GameEx trying to mount a .7z file onto the DTLite virtual drive (set up as a SCSI drive). The drama continues!
  13. SOLVED - 2nd post Hi, No matter how much I search, fiddle or trawl, I still can't get the hang of setting up some emulators with gameex. The info about correct cmd line entries, and other scripts seems to be quite diffuse and scattered. So forgive my asking what may seem obvious to some of you more experienced folks. But been tearing my hair out! Surely there is a more newbie friendly way to present info in these forums? For e.g. Sticky: How to setup Game Ex with xxx Emulator for each em supported by GameEx - regularly updated so not going off 4 year old posts. Anyways. My situation: ROMS: Zipped in the format "[Gamename] (Europe)" [i believe these are no-intro roms?] - inside zip are .tap files (have 3 separate sets elsewhere - one with "pp" files, one with ".crt" files and the ".tap" archives - just put tap files in roms directory due to not finding out how to run pp files) WinVice - with an "unzip.exe" file in the main folder and the "C64" sub-folder (did this from researching somewhere) I'm sure I had it running via GameEx a while ago. Now launch via Gameex - just launches Vice64, but nothing loads. Also, not in fullscreen despite cmd line command. I can launch these games directly from WinVICE using the "autostart disk/tap image" + navigating to the correct zip. Checked log file - seems to be sending correct cmd: "21:22:16.0 14/05/2013: Extracting: C:\Roms\Commodore 64\1942 (Europe).zip 21:22:16.3 14/05/2013: Running: cmd.exe /c C: x64.exe -autostart -fullscreen "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp\Unzipped7-Zip\1942 (Europe).tap" 21:22:16.4 14/05/2013: Shutting down display" Have checked to folder above and file is being successfully extracted to this folder. But game just not starting! I have the "ZIP/7-Zip/Goodmerge/RAR" and "Merge Sets" set to yes (I always find the interplay between these settings, the different romsets and different methods of booting a nightmare - e.g. introduce disk mounting and it's just too much!) As I say if select autostart from WinVICE directly + select a zip file - runs no probs! Howveer have tried running .zip files and also the unzipped file in the temp from the command line - same problems! Now I'm starting to worry it's my settings in winvice! Have restored defaults - but same probs! I GIVE UP!!!! Sheesh - 4 hours on this now and still getting no closer. Please someone with a bit of knowledge, write a straightforward setup guide. Thanks Steve
  14. Cheers Tom. Just keeps gettin better... now just gotta build my first cab.
  15. Can't find these 3d cabinets anywhere Found one link in the gamex forums, but broken This would just be the cherry on the top Any help available? thanks
  16. thanks folks - will look into this when get a minute
  17. Thanks Draco. Despairing here and getting incredibly frustrated. Chose Xebra because of good reccs, although it would appear as if the lack of clarity around mounting/7z/cue/bins etc. exist for the other Ems too - epsxe for eg. I think the problem is one of communication and different levels of tech know how really. For e.g. mounting images via a batch file looses me a bit. Bring on some idiot's guides! Ta Steve
  18. Nope - not working!!! I'm going round in circles on forums and in settings and getting no-where fast. Wish there was some clearer documentation on GameEx site regarding setting up and running emulators - also on the functionality of the virtualdrive stuff. Getting incredibly frustrated. Got into the wonderful world of manual mounting - none the clearer! To reduce this to basics: I have: working Xebra, a 7z file for a ccda game DTools Lite How do I get this working in GameEx? (really liked GameEx at first, but slowly going off it!) Thanks
  19. thanks DJ, very helpful# Just one thing - where's the reference to the [rompath][romfile] in that command? EDIT: That link doesn't appear to have xebra setup
  20. Thanks DJone. When you say "replace M: with [virtualdrive]" do you mean actually type in "[virtualdrive]" or do you mean put my virtual drive letter in the place of "[virtualdrive]" seen this notation in the gameex help callout ("[virtualdrive]") - but it really is about as clear as mud. Also a really awkward way to communicate, as square brackets normally indicates that the reader should replace the contents therein with contents relevant to their situation. Sorry, had a really frustrating day with gameex and emulator setups. Just wish there was some good, clear help on common issues, rather than having to trawl forums and 20 different slightly differing approaches to variations on a common problem! thanks again
  21. Heyup So - I am desperately trying to get psx bin+cue files working with Xebra, launched via gameex via DTLite. My head is starting to hurt. Will this help and if so, are there any patient souls out there would would do a quick idiots guide on what to do? Thanks
  22. OK. Got Deamon tools lite installed. Got psx files in a folder with cue and bin files Got xebra up and running Want gamex starting psx games with ccda files (such as wipeout 3) Now, can get this working outside of gameex by doing the following: Manually mounting the cue file in DTLite interface (say onto G: drive) In Xebra: file open CD-Rom via SPTI then navigate to the virtual cd-rom drive and open ANY file. Run Plays just chipper! yay! However, when try and launch via GameEx - plays OK - but no CD tracks over the game! Booo! Can't find any decent guidance on GamEx site regarding how it goes about mounting images aside from some assurances of 'seamless integration' for DTools lite. Could anyone advise - presumably need to change command line script? notice pre-existing uses "IMAGE" rather than "SPTI" Thanks
  23. For the love of.... all was going so swimmingly.... OK - done the easy ones - C64, SNES, MAME etc... Now onto Psx!! Chose Xebra as emmy from scoping opinion on forums. Just can't get it working! Here's what done so far: Placed psx bios SCPH1001 in root folder of xebra and renamed OSROM INstalled Daemon Tools lite - and runs in tray Ran Xebra + loaded boot rom Here's what I've got: Roms: .bin files all in one folder Here's what I've managed so far: Ran wipeout (with no tunes < aside) from Xebra console + also sometimes (!) from gameex FE Problem: It just seems hit and miss. Had roms booting from FE before, but now just get start of boot screen, and PS logo doesn't disappear + intro tune stops. I have a feeling this has something to do with mounting...... FORGET ALL THIS - SORTED IT! Not even sure if you need to mount. Used Xebra on its own, and found that didn't have to select CDROM SPTI load option. Could do open via image + select the bin file directly. In my GE settings, the culprit seemed to be I had put "Yes" for Zip/Goodmerge/RAR support!!! Deselected abd voila! Happy days - nostalgic PS1 games on the way... after, that it, I set up a few more things.. dreamcast .. xbox!?!? Posted in case anyone else goes down same avenue
  24. Cheers Rage - you're a star.
  25. Good work, Tom. Loving your creation + looking to use on my first cab build One request. I'm not sure if this is theme related or more general GE functioning. Using the After Dark theme: there's facility in GE to play music from a specified folder on the game selection screen for each emulator. Is there any way to have this happen on the screen before this - i.e. on the emulator selection screen? So, when I hover over C64 for example, it plays music from the C64 folder etc... atm - in game selection screen - my videos play over top of bg music making a cacophony, but the emu selector screen is eerily silent. Is this a theme design thing - or more general GE design stuff? I don't ask for much, huh?
