RIP-Felix

I haven't played it yet. It's in a present box shaped icon until you unlock it by playing through the first level in Star Fox 1. I'm saving it for later. Currently I'm playing Earthbound for the first time. Actually, what I'm currently doing is research on the...um...[Alteration]...that allowed the NES classic to play other systems and many more games. Apparently, the SNES classic is compatible too (tentatively, the devs of the [alteration] are currently testing. The SNES rom lineup can be expanded for sure, but we're waiting on an update to confirm and add other features). It has the same hardware and kernal. This lends credence to Nintendo's intention to re-release the NES classic, since the same PCB can just be placed into the reproduction NES classic shell. So all they have to do now is double up on PCB orders and put the NES Classic edition Shell molds back in use. From my perspective, since I made my own NES classic and the SNES classic can be [altered] (Probably) to include the NES classic game lineup, there is less desire in me to get a NES classic when it finally drops next summer, except maybe to mod the case for use with a Raspberry Pi. I think you can even add Genesis and Atari 2600 games to the NES/SNES classic editions! It's a pretty cool device that has way more potential than Nintendo released it with. However, I really like the save states and Nintendo's GUI. The background music is very Nintendo too. I like it. I think it was a satisfying buy, even at $80. I will say however. On the back of the console and controllers it says "Made in China" instead of the "Made in Japan" that became synonymous with Nintendo quality. Casualty of the modern world I guess.

Sadly, I have to agree. It's true enough. Nintendo keeps underestimating the demand. Despite what they claim, it's probably on purpose to drive a collectors craze and get publicity. If that's actually true, and it wasn't just a mistake, then they really are alienating their customers. But what do they care, they're peddling video crack. Gamers are addicts and Nintendo knows it. Remember kids, the NES/SNES classic editions are gateway consoles. Soon Nintendo will pressure you into "switching" to hard core games. ...Nintendo knows what they're doing! I however, keep hoping they'll live up to their promises. Hopefully in the next few weeks the next batch shipments will come in and everyone who wants one will be able to get one before the holiday season. Unfortunately, it's a crap shoot now. If it goes like the NES classic, stores will just get them in and the only way to find one is if you're lucky enough to be there when they restock the shelves. Supposedly they'll keep them in production, so maybe after the holiday season pressure on supply will lessen. If they're still available then...and that is still an if, regardless of what Nintendo says...then the new year will probably be the best time to find them.

Harsh, but understandable emotionalism. Really, it's the scalpers that need to go away. So I agree that Nintendo needs to flood the market with these, just to make the scalpers go away. There's no way I'd be ok with the loss of future Mario, Donkey Kong, Metroid, and Zelda games because Nintendo went under. That's why I continue to buy these things 1st party. I want to support their efforts at pleasing niche markets created by fandom. I like the genuine thing. I enjoy emulating them, but I don't do it to spurn the industry. I may hate their BS tactics, but I don't want to see them fail. That's why I own what I emulate. Don't get me wrong. Emulation is a great way of playing games you never heard of and discovering hidden gems. But if I enjoy a game I don't own, I eventually buy it on e-bay or amazon. I'm a slave to my conscience, even if the evil multinational video game conglomerates aren't. The companies get theirs eventually. So I pay my way when I like what they have to offer. That's my 2c.

I just had a look at amazon and the scalpers are trying to sell theses for $100 markup ($185). There's even a NES + SNES classic bundle for $599. The day after? Very NES classic esk. Hmm... EDIT: Why I think the N64 classic wont happen: I honestly think that the community of emulator devs are more competent than any 1st party's in house programing team. Nintendo designs hardware to fit specific applications, not applications to fit specific hardware. It's a totally different game. NES/SNES are easy and existing emulators can emulate nearly the entire library of games 100% on minimal hardware with passive cooling. N64 is still hardware intensive in the mini category. It may require active cooling, thus noise and pose a fire hazard (which requires testing to ensure consumer safety). Emulation isn't near 100% for many games. They'd have to contract some serious talent from the emulation community, and cherrypick from the titles that emulate well. Nintendo's reputation would be on the line. Plus, hiring emulator devs would legitimize emulation. They would make them sign non-disclosure agreements or simply steal their work from their open source code. Nintendo of all companies is overprotective of their IP and reputation. I'm very skeptical that the N64 classic edition is coming anytime soon, but I'm irrationally hopeful. I hope I'm wrong.

Hmm, that's disconcerting. I was kinda getting used to being able to keep installing my 1 copy of windows on every upgrade over the years. My last upgrade was during the free upgrade period, so I fresh loaded my win7 OS and upgraded to 10. It's probably is different now. Sucks. Looks like I'll be making this PC last for as long as possible.

The future of TV is changing to the subscription model. I hate it because it always leaves us poor folks out of the conversation. I remember when friends would talk about a show I wanted to see live but couldn't afford to (Because it was on cable or a movie channel). I had to have it spoiled before I ever get a chance to see it. Eventually it would finally come out on free TV, years later when it's an afterthought. That BS pisses me off. Now it's not because of cable or a movie channel like HBO. It's because you don't have Netflix, HULU, CBS all access, amazon video, VUDU, and [insert another subscription streaming service]. I hated the business model of big cable enough to cut the cord. $200+/month is too much. Now we have the streaming model becoming monetized to the hilt. It was cool when it was new, now it's getting ruined by competition and greed. They need to bring back syndication to the streaming services. Netflix gets it's Original content for the first 3-6 months then syndicates it to the other streaming services and they do the same. That way you can see all the shows without switching services or having multiple subscriptions if you can wait. The competition for exclusive rights to a TV show would still happen. Malcolm in the middle is going off Netflix on OCt-1 for example. I don't know who beat them out for the contract, but that is one show I could watch over and over without tiring of. So that one stings. I'm actually looking at buying the show, so I won't have to loose it. Stargate SG-1 went off Netflix years ago and hasn't returned, I bought it too. I'm torn on this model. As a consumer and fan of TV, I hate it when "my" show is removed. At the same time it drives DVD sales and encourages TV producers to continue making great shows. It also creates the exclusive hook that the various streaming companies need to compete with one another and drive the price war, keeping the subscription costs down. I just wish one service had everything, forever, for cheap...like the OASIS (Ready Player One reference). But that is fantasy as long as we live in a capitalist society. And I'm not sure there would be as good of content available if it weren't for the competition. So the inconvenience is the real price we pay. Kinda like freedom too, huh? Sigh!

I can't say I blame you. Nintendo says they shipped more for this release than they did for the NES CE and that there will be regular shipments to follow. Only time will tell if they'll live up to that promise. The gal who rang me up at Game Stop did say they received more SNES units than they did of the NES classic. Supposedly, Nintendo will be re-releasing the NES classic soon too, but I'm not sure when (2018?). At least they seem to be trying to make up for their NES Classic debacle. I just played a session of Earthbound (Never tried it before). It's fun! I like this little SNES classic thingy. It brings me back to a time when games were simpler and TV's were smaller (Except now it's on my 55-inch in HD). Even with the 5 foot cord it's still ridiculously close. I think I'll get one of those 8-bitdo NES/SNES classic wireless controller receivers so I can play it with my NES30pro. One of my most recent e-bay adventures was to get my own SNES for the first time. Here is a side by side. My sister caught a look at the SNES classic and the first thing she did was to press the cartridge slot/eject lever. Neither move! She scoffed, realizing immediately this thing's flaw. The carts are a big part of the nostalgia, and their void is immediately felt. That was the problem with the NES classic and it remains with the SNES Classic. I intend to remedy this with my very own MiniSNES build (Eventually). My MiniNES build (NEStalgia) turned out quite nice in my opinion. I'm hoping to replicate that success with SNEStalgia. There is certainly room for improvement over what Nintendo offers with this thing. Wireless controls, working cartridges, retroachievments, emulating other systems, and the artistic touches that make it pop. The one thing that I just can't outdo, however, is the perfect injection molded case. Damit! Injection molding just beats the pants off my 3D printer, Bondo, sand paper, and spray paint. Oh well, we can't all have a plastic foundry at our beckoning call.

This morning I stopped by the local Walmart and struck out. They had a total of 38 and they were gone by 8am (They must have released at midnight). I have work and stress, so sleep is more important than disrupting my circadian rhythm to stand in line all night. I took an hour off work midday and headed to Game Stop when they opened at 10am. That's where I scored! I got the 5th to last one. They were all gone within the 20-30 mins it took to ring them all up. You may ask how long the controller cords are. Well, they are 56 inches. That's pretty good. It's longer than my authentic super famicom controller! It came with the second controller too. The only this is, I like the colored buttons better than the US version, but the US version console is the one I remember. So it's authentically nostalgic.

Didn't catch it. I can't justify buying the CBS streaming service just for this. It bothers me that they are holding Star Trek, of all shows, hostage. It was always syndicated! Now they think it's Game Of Thrones and can get away with the HBO model. I can't justify buying every streaming service just for a few good shows. Competition in the streaming arena just annoys the hell out of me. If it wasn't for the fact it's keeping prices down, I'd rather Netflix were allowed the monopoly so this crap wouldn't happen. Unfortunately, monopolies eventually hike the price, so competition is the only way to balance the scale. So we have to put up with this shiz. Too bad, I wanted to see it. I guess I'll have to wait till the dvds come out.

+1, I can't say I've seen any better. It's really the coolest VP table I've ever seen. Star Wars lends itself so well to VP and the addressable LEDs really sets it over the top. Engaging!

Weird, I switched from AMD to Intel. I just did a fresh install using my original code. It saw that I wasn't rocking the same hardware, prompted me to call, and that was it. I went with a M.2 drive that required some UEFI magic to get recognized too. Been very happy with it though.

I usually never have to talk to a real person. Just call the 800 number and answer the questions. It gives you the code and you're done. I've had to do this many times. I bought 1 OEM Win vista way back when. It had a free upgrade to 7 when it got released. Then I took advantage of the free upgrade to 10 during the transition. I've upgraded that original computer probably 5 times since, nothing is original anymore, except the OS (albeit upgraded)...lol. Yeah, MS has been pretty lenient about the transfers. I'll credit them that.

I stopped using it when it started removing core registry components and screwing up my windows build! It got way too aggressive, so I just use the file cleaner built into Norton 360.

They say more units of the SNES classic will ship day 1 then all the NES classics that sold last year. And more of the NES classics will be produced too. So it sounds like they're starting to get the idea. They thought they had a collectable, then realized they had a product. If the rumors are true and the NES classics are going back into production, plus if they do a full run of the SNES classics, then I'll forgive them for their earlier slight. Mistakes are forgivable, if they rectify them. Hopefully it goes better this round. However, since all the preorders are already gone, I'm dubious the rumors are true. This could just be a rouse to try and discourage the bots from buying up the whole supply. If they believe Nintendo is producing enough to meet demand they will be stuck with inventory they can't scalp for a profit, so they may be discouraged if they believe what Nintendo is saying. Nintendo could just be lying to try and give real people a chance to get one before the bots catch on. I'd check your local stores on release day to get one, for the best chance.

So many good arcade titles to choose from, I wanted to keep the list to 20 - manageable. Lunar lander huh? I've not heard of it, I'll have to check it out. My first real "woah" moment was Super Mario 64 (3D like that blew my mind). Before that it was Descent on PC, one of the first 3D games. Technically Doom preceded it in the 3D category, but Descent was the first 3D FPS I'd seen and way cooler IMO. I still play it today. and love it. Defiantly an age factor, but what the hay. Games are games and everyone can enjoy the classics. Growing up I had my dad's Atari 2600 and 33 games, so those were my go to's before talking my mom into getting us a Genesis. Later Dad got a PS1 and finally an N64. My friend had the NES and my cousin's cousin had the SNES (I only got to see it a few times and marvel at it). The SNES was my unicorn console. The unattainable, mythical one. I have a very sad story of this console. There was one at daycare we had to take turns playing, so I never got to put any real time in at getting good. All total, I probably only got in 1-2 hours of gameplay with it, never more than 5 mins in one sitting. I always died in seconds and had to relinquish the controls to the next kid in line. Later there was one in school we could play at lunch, but only if we reached level 3. This was a point system based on behavior and leadership designed to provide structure, accountability, and responsibility. We were scored after each class for behavior and lost points for swearing, not participating, talking back, not following directions (I got lots of NFD's). So I was perpetually on level 2, just 1 level below the reward of being able to play the SNES at lunch. I could only watch! I just rectified the situation. I bought my very own SNES on ebay last week! It's in good condition, no discoloring! It works great and is cooler than I remember. #midlifecrysis?

I'm relieved to hear you all are doing ok, with minimal property damage. Hopefully that will be the last hurricane of the season with any punch to it. Fingers crossed.

That's a good category for sure, but since we already have the HS comp, it's kinda redundant. I think we should announce the winners on the anniversary of GameEX, but I don't know when that was. Maybe @Tom Speirs would know.

I'll get both if I find them at intended retail price. The one I hope they make and they'd better is the N64 classic. Retropi sucks at emulating it so there really isn't much alternative in that form factor.

How does it integrate with an echo? I have 2 and use them quite a bit for smart plugs (Fans, lights, even to reset my network switch). If they come with the blutooth thingy, then maybe I should upgrade. Does it matter what Kind of harmony? I have a cheap 510 too. It works well where I have it, but it's limited to like 5 devices. I could replace my 880 with the elite and replace the 510 with the 880 (after fixing and reprogramming it).

Ooo...that's tempting. I have a Harmony 880 that is starting to have issues registering the volume up and the button I assigned my HTPC to. I was going to open it up and clean the contact pads, ssuming it has them. If it has tactile switches instead I'd have to desolder/replace them. More trouble than it's worth. So I can get an elite for $150 on trade for my 880 huh? I think I'll try to save my 880, I'm still in love with it, even if the battery swelled and broke the batt cover off. I replaced both a few years back. Maybe I should bite the bullet and finally buy a new one. The truth is, however, I've been holding out for a bluetooth capable one that doesn't need an IR adapter to work with PS3/4 if your TV doesn't have CEC.
