Hahha, I finally got around to "modifying" my Wii (yup, that still sounds weird). It's awesome! I don't know why it took me so long to finally do it. Yeah, everything's come crawling to a halt. It's a good time to catch up on some housework and the ever growing backlog games! I need to make a prioritized list and start checking them off.

Here's a closer look at the thing. I'm used to looking at the internals of various models of the SNES after my repair thread, so I can tell you that main board is legit. It's essentially a 2-chip model, not the more desireable cost-down models with superior video quality. That means it was early enough in the SNES lifespan that may games might have been CD games. There's no doubt it's real. Pretty cool to see such a thing. I wonder if the MSU-1 CD audio hacks that you can do now and play on an Everdrive are a glimpse of what it would have been had Nintendo not cheated on SONY with Philips (Philips, you home wrecker!). 30 years later and we're finally getting CD quality sound on SNES, something that we should already have enjoyed back then...if only Nintendo could have kept it in their pants! ...lol. Actually I'm glad SNES was a single platform. I always thought the Sega 32x and CD were cash grabs that didn't add enough of an experiance to justify the expense. The games didn't blow my socks off or anything. Nothing to make me say, "I gotta get that!"

I didn't realize the partnership had progressed to the point of 200 prototypes having been made! And I find it a bit unlikely that Nintendo destroyed the other 199. I wouldn't be suprised if there is another "nearly lost to history" story in a few years where another one appears.

First impressions are that It'll probably be one of my favorite Nintendo consoles. I did buy a Switch pro controller, but I prefer the 8BitDo SF30Pro controller (the origninal version Nintendont nixed because it looked too much like their design). I've gotten used to them and now they feel like the switch's official controller to me. As for the joycon's, I don't like them very much. Buttons are too small/clicky. The analog sticks don't travel/rock enough for my liking. The only thing I like about them is that you can separate them on either side of your body while laying down, which is more comfortable than holding a controller over your stomach. I did buy another dock so I can have it hooked up at 2 different TV's. When someone needs a room, I can just moved the tablet to the other dock without the need to save and shut down, then unhook everything. Portability makes it extremely appealing over other consoles IMO (even to the point I'm willing to forgo a better looking 1080p PS4 title for the convenience of the 900p switch port). And I'm a picture purist...lol! I got a later model, the one with an extended battery, which is nice to have. However, the newer model switches don't have the exploit that allows android OS to be loaded on them. I kinda want to get a launch model so I can bring my retro collection with me too. I have retroarch on my phone and that's great with the above controllers (they pair to phones and PC too), but I'd like to have them all in one device. I'm thinking of picking up a broken launch model on e-bay and trying to fix it for fun.

Yeah, I mean for $35 your not out much if it doesn't meet expectation. First looks idicate it's worth the extra $5 to avoid the pound cable. If I was strapped for cash and just wanted a solution so I could play me some DC, this would be the place to start. Thanks for the suggestion!

I've not looked at this one yet, but it sounds intriguing. Keep in mind that all VGA analog to digital converters won’t correct the aspect ratio and sampling issues caused by the Dreamcasts off spec brand of DTV480p (720x480), which was meant for TVs. Most devices interpret it as a 640×480 VESA signal like you'd find in computer monitors and after scaling it appears smoother than it should. Here's an interesting vid.

Congratz! The pound cable is for people who just want to play games and have no discerning eye for image quality. It's cheap and dead simple. It's not much better than composite. but the $30 price gets you a convenient, barely passable image onto a modern display. When I set out on this journey a few years back I bought one and embarrassingly thought it was fine. Then as I read more and decided to upgrade, I saw how flawed a device it is. It's a relatively noisy device that produces a darker image than better options. However, I can't in good conscience advise you to stay away from it. While it's fashionable to hate on Pound and Hyperkin for their low quality cash grab products designed to prey upon the retro gaming community (and that's definitely what this is, don't fool yourself), It's easy to use and readily available. And that appeals to ALOT of people. EDIT***I would try the one @RazorX reccomended instead if you want to give it a try. These are the cheapest and easiest solutions. I would recommend a RetroTINK 2xPRO if you're starting out instead. Use the composite cable that came with your console and if you still want an upgrade you may be happy with a high quality s-video cable. This will preserve full game compatibility. Sticking with 240p/480i through the Composite/s-video output ensures full compatibility with the DC game library without fussing with settings, but you won't get the best possible image quality (DTV 480p) that many games are capable of outputting. The VGA port can be utilized with VGA boxes like the TORO, HDretrovision Component Cables once they are released sometime this year (hopefully), and even cheap cables on amazon (worst VGA option). However to make use of those you'll need an upscaler like the OSSC (unless your TV has component input and handles DTV 480p particularly well, unlikely), which requires fiddling with settings to make the most of. The added cost may not be worth the expense for the small bump in image clarity you get. Especially when emulation on a capable device can achieve better than is possible on console. Akura on the other hand can output 480p over HDMI directly to your TV without another scaler, but lacks versatility and some compatibility. I've "heard" build quality might be an issue, I don't have one and don't like to knock something I've not had personal experience with, so IDK. This will not produce as good an image as the Toro and an upscaler combo, but @ $75 it's a great step up, without breaking the bank. The best on console solution is the Digital-digital hardware HDMI mod (DCHDMI), but it often has long waits to order and may be difficult to install. I'm a novice with good equipment and was able to install it, but I invested a few hundred into the soldering equipment and use it for other projects to get my moneys worth. If this is the only time your'e ever going to use a soldering iron, it would be cheaper to pay someone to do it for you.

Yup, works fine. I would like to be able to slide the bar between the theme select pane on the right and thus make the preview window even bigger, but I'm really being picky at this point.

The preview is more of what I was expecting to see on console, so that's awesome. I like the GDemu SD card maker launch button, keeps users from having to rummage through folders to find an exe. Smart move. I hate to "uno mas" you, but I just noticed something else that you may want to look into. The window is a bit too small, but I can't resize or maximize it. I can minimize it to the taskbar, but that's it. I know elements can scale weird and cause formatting issues, and perhaps that's the reason behind disabling the maximize button in the first place, but it would be nice to at least maximize the window.

So I couldn't hold out anymore. I paid into the outrageous price fixing scam that is Nintendo Switch. Games I got are: FF 7&8 remaster Twin pack FFX & X-2 HD remaster twin pack Spyro Reignited Trilogy Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna Zelda: Breath of the wild. Super Mario Odyssea Mario Maker 2 I haven't played most of these yet, because I wanted to wait until I have time to fully devote my attention to just 1 game. RPG's are best played with singular focus and without long breaks between sessions, otherwise you loose the skill necessary to progress. I totally dig them, though. I'm currently enjoying Mario odyssey (2017, still $60) and Mario Maker 2 (2019, dropped to $45). Odyssey so far has been an addicting play through that I suspect I won't play again for a while (low replay value, except nostalgia once that starts itching). Mario maker on the other hand has been a thorough time sink with endless replay value. I like making levels more than playing other people's levels, but there are a number of features I wish that it had. 1) the ability to watch players playing your levels. 2) the ability to create an over world and connect multiple levels like an actual game. Maybe in a future update or MM3. Game on my wish list: Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana Octopath Traveler Animal Crossing: New Horizons Untitled Goose Game (would prefer a physical release if LRG ever makes a deal) Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Super Mario Party What am I missing? Please feel free to make suggestions. While I'm leaning toward PC because of price and quality for certain titles (big/visually impressive multi platform releases. Skyrim = PS4 or PC), I prefer the switch over other options because of portability and ease of docking between TV's/rooms (remasters like the Spyro Trilogy = Switch).

I Just got back from Alaska and encountered the hysteria. No I did not get to see the aurora...had I been able to stay 1 day longer I would have. Dammit! As far as I was concerned things were fine, I checked out for a long weekend in the mountains and snow, just to return to set of Contagion (hopefully not as an extra). I should have stayed up there! BTW @Tom Speirs, what do people think about when you tell them not to think about elephants? This is on you buddy! Now sit back and enjoy a corona while witnessing the alpaca lips

Yeah, but a boy can dream. I meant something like a preview button that would overlay the game text, info text and disc art in the position/color they would be on console. You could do this with a few pngs for the different fonts. Make a black theme, screen cap with the different fonts, magic wand out the black (perhaps feather the edge), then overlay the resulting PNG in the preview. This would allow us to see how the text will contrast against the selected theme background. It would also preview the fonts better. That should be doable.

Retrotink-2X PRO Review: ULTRA-LOW Latency Scaler with NEW Features!

I actually just bought a pro on fiday. It was in stock and arrived today. Super pleasent transaction and quick shipping! I skipped the retroTink2x (they call it the classic now) in favor of the OSSC, which is still my main scaler. But I wanted the 2x for my mom, who likes playing animal crossing on the wii. I also have an RGB modded N64 there too. The TV mishandles 240p as 480I, mario cart breaks into nasty combing artifacts every now and again. I'm the only one bothered by it, but I can't unsee it anymore. The Rad2x works great for the N64, but I wanted the more versatile Retrotink Pro so I can hook almost anything up without changing cables around. 240P and 480I covers basically every console without an HDMI out. Also the smoothing filter looks good on an RGB modded n64. It does seem pointless to mod RGB just to smooth it back out, but it's feeding High quality RGB before the upscale, then smoothing. That's better than upscaling composite smearing it on screen. Also the HQ2x isn't like a bi-linear blurring effect, it cuts off jaggies by filling in the triangles with similar colors. It looks better overall for 3D games IMO. For 2D games I'd just flick the smoothing off and have me some pixels. 2x upscale is pretty soft still, but perfectly acceptable from a normal viewing distance. I don't care about scan lines, but they do feel kinda nostalgic. But I keep a CRT around for that. -
Hover over text on the "load" button still refers to the 0.6a version. You may want to revise it. In app Readme fixed, scrolls fine now! I'm not getting the unhandled exception anymore. If possible you should consider placing the other files/directories inside a folder (called something like assets). Then, after extracting, the theme manager executable is the first thing people see. They'd have to open the assets folder to find the stuff that confused me to begin with. Cleaner = better IMO. I'm liking this theme manager. Defiantly helps make things look more personalized. My wishlist items would be the following, but I realize these are way beyond the scope of what you've created: Custom text color Import TTF fonts Re-position of text and images Inject tool for Custom artwork on the disc image. A preview mode to see what it'd look like.

Can I create my own font if I edit text into one of the font.png files or does the program expect the letters to be in exactly the same x,y coordinates withing the png? Any chance you could create support for importing true type font files? I would like to use Segan (the font used for the DC logo). I'm using windows 10, I tried on another pc with a more traditional monitor and it too cuts off the last paragraph.

Okay, I had a chance to mess around with it a bit this morning. Here are my thoughts and questions. For reference here is a pic of the theme I'm talking about. I had to update GIMP to a more recent version to open your theme template. I don't use GIMP much, I mostly use Paint.net. So I exported to PSD format and opened it in Paint.net (I may have a mod installed that allows me to do so, I don't remember). Anyway, the template just looks like a way of making a background that text elements load on top of. This is certainly much appreciated! However, I was wondering how I change the color of the text so it provides more contrast against brighter backgrounds? The light Blue info text is too bright/pastel, basically impossible to read. Also the light red/salmon game select text doesn't work well against the blue background. I think both should be Black for this theme. I'm going to delete that date at the bottom of this theme, it's confusing to have a date that doesn't change. When I saw that I thought my RTC battery had died, which I just replaced. You may have noticed that Crazy taxi is highlighted, but crazy taxi 2 is shown in the preview. I think that's due to an error on my part. I accidentally deleted folder 01 on my sd card and when rebuilding, everything got shifted down one. I'll fix that on the next attempt. [BUG] I ran into an unhanded exception after importing the theme, but after pressing continue everything went fine. {BUG] The Readme in the theme manager wont scroll all the way to the bottom. I had to copy the text into word to finish reading the instructions.

Retrotink-2X PRO Review: ULTRA-LOW Latency Scaler with NEW Features!

Yeah I've been following this for awhile. The RCA ports are a bit more spaced out so you don't have to worry about larger component cables spanning them anymore! The case should provide better support too. I got a couple of the RAD2x (Multi out for N64/SNES/GC/AV famicom, the Genesis and the Saturn version). Basically they're a RetroTink2x in a cable, but specific to each console. Honestly I think they and this are the easiest and most useful of all the solutions if you just want to play and not mess with any settings. They are very user friendly and provide more than a satisfactory experience. Highly recommended! BTW: I broke down and got an LG OLEDB9 and did some testing. With the same console outputting 480p from the RAD2x to the OLED and my CRT, in a side-by-side dual output scenario, they looked in perfect sync. It's actually about 13.8ms slower on the OLED, but subjectively, I couldn't tell the difference in real time. -
Yeah sorry, I didn't have a chance to get to it last weekend and have been swamped until now. I still need to actually try it out, but in the manager I like the last theme, the one that looks like the main DC menu that pops up without a disc in. When playing a game like Seaman where you need to manipulate the Real time clock it looks like it'll be a more seamless transition to have a familiar interface between menus. Looks like how I imagine SEGA would have implemented it. I think I'll try that first. I'll defiantly post some pics and my template if I create a theme.

Never mind, it was Norton Security suite again. It removed the app and It flagged so many things that I missed the theme manager exe in the quarantine. I just DL'd again and it's there now, after telling Norton to step-off. Seems to be working fine now. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for being cool. I don't have time to mess with it now, but I'll defiantly check it out this weekend. Nice work! If only we could do this with our everdrives!

You make it sound so simple. First I assume the program I'm supposed to open is "GDEMU Games List Generator.exe", which is not immediately obvious since there is no README.txt telling you to do so. It should be obvious, but there is another application (checker.exe) in the same directory. That doesn't seem like the right one. Speaking of which, Norton removed it and I had to un-quarintine it. So far your program has made me feel about as safe using it as Madsheep's SD card maker. I'm not sure what a bin checker is for , but whatever, felix plows recklessly forward...even though that rival cat called me satyn! It obviously has some dependencies to run. When I run, all it displays is "Load Games", then it says there's no "gameslist.txt". I tried creating a blank text and it just displays no games. There doesn't seem to be anything else to do in the GUI. Does it need to be placed into a specific directory?

Are you listening Nintendo? You need to get on that ASAP. Put it in vegas with the DK ride off the top, winding down the side, and through the jungle themed sections. Go all out and build a theme park like Disney did. Why shouldn't there be a Nintendo Land? The world need's a Nintendo Land! -
I have always noticed the slowdowns in the exact spots mentioned in the video. It always bothered me. Now we know why it happened! BTW, Everyone's favorite romhacking dot net site has a reduced lag patch for the no-intro "Super Mario 64 (USA).z64" rom. This will reduce the lag greatly for your everdrive enjoyment. Just patched my rom and it's working great! Crazy that this is something we can now rectify.

I think the best thing he said was "it's your hardware, do what you want with it". That tells me they finally pegged their crowd. DIY'ers, maker/creators, and enthusiasts. I can see the appeal now. And I'm really glad to FINALLY see future for this after 3 years in the making and countless delays. I hope it's worth the wait for you guys. I'm weary of the whole Indiegogo thing after watching this unfold as it has.
