16-Bit systems and earlier tend to be the way to go. Why not look into using your trackball as a mouse and playing some point and click adventure games, ScummVM springs to mind1 point

hi bclinton, This is the exact predicament I found myself in recently. Cab all setup, but not knowing which games work well for which CP Layouts. DOn't think it's really platform specific. For example, Tekken 5 on the PS2 works great with just four buttons and a digital joystick. However, some older platforms, like N64 are a bit of a nightmare! - For example. Goldeneye doesn't work well at all. However, other N64 games will work fine as long as you can get away with digital joy and number of buttons. I'm putting together a user-contributable database of console games that work well on cab/arcade sticks. Curently ironing out all the creases, but once finalized, will include link for people to add games. Please feel free to contribute when you find good games for cabs! Check beta below: https://sites.google.com/site/alienarcade74/top-console-to-cab-games1 point

Awesome ! worked like a charm. My only frustration is that I must have tried that at least 5 times. The only thing I had to change in my settings was the 'Only Existing Roms = Yes' Plus, twice it froze on me when creating 'verify.dat' ( I think that was the file ). While I have this thread open, now that my MAME list is complete, I assume I can change my settings so Emulated Games is not displayed in the menus ( for less options for the kids ). Thanks for your quick and awesome help.1 point

In the Setup Wizard> MAME Settings> Advanced MAME Settings try these settings: Allow Imperfect Games = Yes Verify ROMS = No Only Existing Roms = Yes No Clones = I want Clones Then launchGameEx go to Mame and click Update List. As Draco mentioned it may take some time.1 point

Yes Les is correct. I've just confirmed the following steps: On the GameEx Online screen in the Setup Wizard enter the following Settings: Enabled: Yes User ID: [FORUM USER NAME] Password: [FORUM PASSWORD] Start PinballX and wait for the "Logged In" icon to appear. It appears on the left hand side of the screen for me. Launch a table (I don't think it matters which one) Exit PinballX and login to GameEx Online. You should now have a Game Card link appearing under your avatar. When you click on the Game Card link it will show the appropriate url to enter in you signature (or where ever else)@randr: FWIW it looks like you're running a GameEx Game Tag. That's fine and good if you're running GameEx (and have run the registry key you received in the associated email), but it's not going to do anything for PinballX. You'll need to follow the above steps in order to get your PinballX gamer tag. Good luck man!1 point

The loading screen covers any background programs loading up (eg visual pinball editor) before the table is launched. You can always just create a custom one like I did to suit your cabinet.1 point

I exclusively use Database Browser Portable exclusively for working with GameEx SQLite Databases (based on a suggestion from Stu1983). There are a few other options available though.1 point

Yes only the OP and/or moderator and admins can alter a topic title. Typically we only mark a topic as [RESOLVED] when the OP has confirmed that the assistance provided was effective in resolving their reported issues. I suspect that the excellent information you've provided here would be more than sufficient in getting the OP up and running, but at the same time we try not to make assumptions. We try to rely on our forum posters to follow standard etiquette of reporting back with success or continued difficulties, but it doesn't always work out that way. At any rate thanks so much for the excellent assistance provided in this thread! Edit: Or we just decide to do it anyway. Thanks Draco!1 point

In the Setup Wizard, go to Advanced Emulator Setup. In the first line select the emulator that you are using from the list. 13 lines down from there is an entry for Advanced Config. Click on the ... button to bring up the Advanced config editor. You want the tab that says Keyboard ReMap. Map your keys and when finished, save the file with a unique name by clicking on File at the top of the Advanced Config Editor window. (Save AS) Make sure and set the file that you just created in the field for Advanced Config in the Setup Wizard. You might as well check out the other tabs in the advanced config editor, you never know what else you might need in the future.1 point
