a little handy: an option to create a new folder in the filebrowser when you're assigning an artwork path.

If possible, when setting up paths, let GameEx remember the last used path. Now you have to browse to your MAME folder for every setting. Sure, you can just copy/paste the path, but it would be nice for new users.

I would like to see the ability to turn off the ambient noise when the jukebox is playing. I LOVE the ambient noise feature, but it is worthless if you use the jukebox since you have to listen to both! Somehow Pearl Jam isn't as good when you can hear Pacman in the background :)

Shouldn't really need a button per se... Just have it disable upon loading the juke. A button would only make things more complicated.

I would prefer to have control of when it is on or off though the GUI...CP

Funny you mention that, because I'm trying to convince Tom to implement this after the Setup Wizard is finished. I was thinking of using it more for a search feature, but it could be used to jump to letters in a list too, or filter the list. Eg. You type "Double" and everything in the list not starting with "Double" is filtered out. Onscreen keyboard is definately a big feature request for me too.

This will be implemented as a search (not exactly as you ask), and now with have list caching it is on the way and planned.

any chance as a registerered user you could add more emulators belive it or not 28 is just not enough thanks very much bazzman69

I would request that each emulator section in Gameex be able to display controls for a system and that the

picture can be changed, like in the MAME arcade section. Kinda like the view controls selection under MAME games.

For each of the emulators, all I would need would be to be able to put one picture on there for the controls.

Hi, I'm new to this program, but it seems great.. anyway, I was wondering if a second filter could be implemented for goodmerged set emulators. For example, *.7z is the first filter, then after a file is extracted, a second filter for the list of games in the .7z, like *[!]*, or *(U)*, so we don't have to go thru all the hacks.. if i wanted to play super mario bros., nes version, for instance, there's some.. 521 different dumps of that game, almost 1/3 as many versions of one game as there are games for that system.. I personally think it would be a good idea, and it's been requested several times:

Ability to filter extracted 7-zip files. IE; When 7zipping cd-images (sega cd for example) in iso/mp3 or bin/cue format, have GameEx use an additional filter to only look for the iso or cue files. This would help eliminate the showing of multiple files once games are extracted. This is a difficult "bug" in that the files are extracted and displayed without their file extentions. So if we could get an "ExtractedROMFilter" that would really be great.

This would also help with Pinball tables that I'm 7zipping. Some tables require extra vbs files, that are the same names as the vpt files. Telling GameEx to only look for *.vpt files after extracting would be awesome.

as you can see, it would have several other good uses..

again, this is just a suggestion, as i'm sure there are other more important things that have your attention, and it's already such a great program.. thank you for your time.

I have a suggestion. Instead of decompressing the 7z files why not just reading the 7z archive, gettig the file listing, and then decompressing only the rom selected. I am sure there must be something in the 7z library to get a string matrix containing the files of the archive. Then it should be easy to construct a "virtual" listing for the GUI. And then you only have to do one file decompressing saving lots of time.

If the 7z format is anything like the zip archive format, you have to decompress all files in the archive to access one file.

Depending if it uses solid archive or not.

Hi Tom,

Yet another request to add to the list  .

Would it be possible to have an option to change the way the database is displayed? There's a few benefits of having an option to change from vertical stacking to horizontal. There's a mce dump from the tv guide below to show what i mean:

horizontalns4.png

This would allow much bigger screenshots, people running gameex on a low res arcade screen would appreciate this. Also there's greater flexibility for layouts, which might put those MCE critics to rest. It would be really useful for media pages like, Pictures & Videos (once multiple custom layouts are available)

emulatorscreenpj3.png----pictureste5.png

Also would it be possible to alter the font size of the of the database independently of the game list? This would stop it from dominating the screen/causing errors. I hope im not asking too much bud, i dont know whats easy/difficult to programme :)

Thanks Tom & Headkaze...your doing a fantastic job!

That would be nice, as i'm working with a 720x480 res, and although i can fit the database in, it leaves my pictures little room, so I just take out the databases all together in the theme.

tom, why can't we choose a custom background image for mame/daphne?! people have really started a riot in the uploaded themes/configs and have pretty much the sickest skins to date. it just would be a lot more awesome to have a customized bkgrnd option for mame and daphne, probably my most played emus.

I'd like for somebody to rewrite the script file that uses the GameEx bezel for vertical MAME games. Since (I believe) MAME v106, everything is using a new renderer that makes the current bezel artwork not work. If you have it enabled, MAME will crash on a vertical game and won't run. The new renderer uses a simple xml format with the extention .lay (layout). It's only like a 4 line file and wouldn't be hard to do, I just don't know how to do it.

Just to add it to the list;

Configure GameEx to use the new .lay format bezel artwork provided by Mr. Do.

Side Request:

Program the setup/configuration programs to allow a user to chose which format to use. Some users are still using the older versions of MAME, which require the .art format, while others are using the newer version that uses .lay. A simple example of the options would be like:

USE GAMEEX BEZEL FOR VERTICAL GAMES:

---------------------------------------------------

No, leave artwork as normal

Yes, use Classic format (.art)

Yes, use Modern format (.lay)

Even better for that side request (if possible) that while GameEx is updating the gamelist, the working choice for bezel format is automatically chosen. Because if someone is running 0.108 then decides to "downgrade" to say, 0.106, they still have to run update GameList, right?

Here's a request, can GameEx check the mame version and show a "new mame version detected, update gamelist yes/no?" This would also make things easier for n00bs. (Can't believe I used that term...)

Hehe blame that on me as I've been using that term a fair amount as of late here. ;)

Hehe sorry about that.

Had a thought about showing the control panel. Someone asked if it can be loaded just prior to launching the game. My thought was this...how about the contol panel can overlay the game you are playing only for the duration that the button is held down without interupting the game. It seems that when you do that now, it gets 'out' of the emulation to show you the control panel layout. This other way, it would not interfere or disprupt gameplay. (much like the mame configuation menu)...

Thoughts???

Hi Tom,

I was wondering if you could add the ability in custominput.ini to put in multiple scan codes for each action.

For example:

"Select=2, 42"

This would be helpful for me because I have an ergonomic setup for what key does what, but my wife would like to use the buttons more intuitively, i.e. the start button being select. If multiple scan codes were enabled, then we could both use it how we want.

Thanks!
