80 GB HP Pocket Media Drive

hey everyone,

i just popped into the local pawn shop after work today and picked up an 80 GB HP Media Drive that connects to the PC via USB for $60 bucks which i thought was pretty good. Please tell me I can plug this baby in and expand my emulators to use within gameex!

I would make sure that it works correctly. Do a burn in type test on it so you don't start relying on a drive that has errors!

It's just an external hard drive, so it should work just like an internal drive.

i don't understand... format it?

being usb 2.0 will the games/menus on the drive load slower than my C:? say it's labeled as drive F:, i would just set path names in gameex config to F:\games\blah\blah right?

A burn in test is usually used to check components of a computer for errors. This is usually done after the pc is built and before delivery. Basically the device is ran for a length of time and checked for failure. I'm not sure but there is probably some software that will let you target a specific devise (e.g. portable hard drive), may want to google it (burn in test).

USB may be slower than your C:, but depending on what your using it for it may not be a problem.

You can run a Surface Scan in Windows. If you right click on the drive in Explorer you can run diagnostics on it. Choose to do a full surface scan and it will look for bad spots.

Also you can use a program like Sandra Standard to check the diagnostic codes in the firmware of the drive. They should give you a decent idea of the drive's health.

OUCH. $20 more for 170 GB more. i hate you will! just kidding man, thanks for the info... i'll let you know how it works out. *swindled* Guess i shouldn't have been an impulse buyer and came home to do research... i may still grab that one off the link because that is a sweet deal.

sorry! Be sure and read some reviews first, though. I don't know anything about that particular one except the price.
