Epic Games lays offer over 1000 employees following a decline in Fortnite engagement

Praying that this doesn't impact my son. He works in LA with a team that produces gaming review videos. They have recently laid off about 100 employees due to recent game devs abandoning pending titles and, thus, their downstream contracts.

Doesn’t sound good, makes me wonder how viable the platform is or if has all been hinged on the success of Fortnite.

I think they have staying power, but Fortnite popularity could only last so long. They don't have the bench depth of Valve or the nostalgia draw of GoG. Hopefully they will look carefully at their strategy and pivot in a way that fosters growth and longevity in this volatile arena.
