Hi guys,

I have always used Visual Pinball with PinballX.
Now I have installed Future Pinball / BAM as indicated by TerryRed in his guide in this forum ([GUIDE] How Future Pinball "should" be setup for BAM, DOFLinx & Pinball X!).
From FPLoader.exe launched manually all the tables work, but when I run them from PinballX I see the black screen (playfield and backglass) and Future Pinball.exe is completely blocked (I have to force it to close).
I slavishly followed TerryRed's guide to configure PinballX but nothing...
How come? What am I missing?

Thank you

Please attach your PinballX Log\Log.txt & Config\PinballX.ini files (make sure the log is after launching a FP table).

Might be a compatibility setting somewhere (PinballX or FP set to run as admin or legacy windows mode) or the FP launch parameters. We need to see those files to check the launch parameters or for errors first.

In PinballX settings for Future Pinball - have you added the line below in parameters?

/open "[TABLEPATH]\[TABLEFILE]" /play /exit /arcaderender /STAYINRAM

and set the FPRAM path?

Yes, both.

Here attached after running an FTP table.

Thank you all

I see the following in your log when launching :

12:34:51.58 25/10/2023: Main display running full screen windowed.
12:34:51.60 25/10/2023: HRESULT: [0x8876086A], Module: [Unknown], ApiCode: [Unknown/Unknown], Message: Unknown
12:34:51.64 25/10/2023: Error. Exiting

0x8876086A is a D3D error. Could be anything related to your GPU or directX installation.

IF you run the following command from a command line (not admin, just user), is it working ?

C:\Future Pinball\BAM\FPLoader.exe /open "C:\Future Pinball\Tables\Aladdin's Castle ULTIMATE 1.01.fpt" /play /exit /arcaderender /STAYINRAM

Have a look at Terry Reds guides - https://mega.nz/folder/WVgyXZZa#1KAqkmcXA2eJS7aHZijrRQ and [GUIDE] How Future Pinball "should" be setup for BAM, DOFLinx & Pinball X! - FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information - Spesoft Forums (gameex.com)

You need to go through and check the FP install step by step. From the 'mega' guide amongst other things;

•	FPLoader.exe may need to be Run as Administrator the first time you run FP (to create settings files for BAM, etc). Afterward make sure you change this back so FPLoader.exe is NOT Run as Administrator!
•	the FuturePinball.exe must NEVER be set to Run as Administrator!
•	If you are having crashing problems, try to set FPLoader.exe in BAM folder to Windows 8 Compatibility mode and see if it helps (if it doesn’t then set this back)

Very strange things happens...

Uninstalled, reinstalled like TerryRed Guide but when I unzip BAM update (BAM_v1.5-365.zip, [17 jun 2023]) Windows Defender show me a Trojan inside bam.dll (attached you find screenshot) and don't allow me to complete copy.

Very likely this is a false positive and confirmed if you Google Search using tags "bam.dll false positive" .

You will need to disable your Windows Defender while doing the installation again.

Additionally, you will probably need to set certain folders, such as PinballX, as exceptions within Defender.

Excluded and re-installed but the result is always the same: launching FPLoader.exe appears the splash windows with Future Pinball logo and immediately all disappears...

Future Pinball or BAM doesn't have a log file?

I used also TerryRed "Future Pinball and BAM essentials AIO - 1.3" and reinstalled VC Runtimes...

I'm not using FP at all, so not able to help.

Try to reinstall your directx. Thats the exit code error that pinballx get returned from the launch.

Sometimes a reinstall of Microsoft vc++ redist cwill also help

EDIT : I just setup FP and BAM as well, and all starts smooth (but get some errors with FP, but thats not caused by PinballX).

Thank you Mike! Reinstalled DirectX and all is working fine, command line, FPLoader and PinballX.

I noticed two little problems:

1) Some tables loading VERY SLOW (example Aliens Legacy)

2) PinballX Game Manager doesn't find any media packs for many FTP tables... It's normal? I have to find'em manually?

Thank you very much

Glad it is working now for you !

1) not sure as I'm not using FP. I tried today with sonic pinball game, and rendering and loading is very slow. VP and fx3 is much faster, but launching a table for pinball FX is really slow as well

2) i dont know either. Not at a pc to check ftp server, but think most of the recently released tables doesn't have media on ftp.

For TPA, FX3, FX and VP i try to keep the ftp up to date. With DBM you can maybe check easier whats on the ftp server.... or add a Mega link that contains media for easier import

1.) I "googled" Aliens Legacy Running Slow and it took me here - https://vpuniverse.com/files/file/15148-aliens-legacy-game-over-man-pinevent-lite-fizx-30/

Looks like this takes a fast GPU and has some other requirements. Look for the "Game not running smooth? Try the following:" section.

2.) You are more likely to find VP table media than FP media for newer tables as FP suffered some issues with table physics on the older tables which steered many towards VP for a few years until it was overhauled. The newer the table, the less likely to have lots of new media.

To address #2, you may be able to create your own media - the fiollowing reference to a Future Pinball version of PBX Recorder dates to 2018 so no guarantees - https://www.vpforums.org/index.php?showtopic=33552
