What rom is Super Mario set to use in the table script?

This looks like PinballX recognises it's 'genie' as running (? normally smb3).

17:15:51.05  02/10/2023:  c:\Visual Pinball\VPinballX.exe /play -"c:\Visual Pinball\Tables\Super Mario Bros (Gottlieb 1992)_Bigus(MOD)2.0.vpx"
17:15:51.13  02/10/2023:  C:\PinballX\vpauto.exe
17:15:55.06 02/10/2023: VPX Full screen exclusive mode detected
17:16:00.23 02/10/2023: Found PinMAME ROM: genie

Maybe you have some ghost VPX instances running in the background that haven't closed correctly or something, please try a reboot and see if that helps.

Strange part is that your log is launching smb, but the rom found is Genie.

Thats one I don't understand.

I also see you run pinballx as administrator. It will not fix your issue, but it not needed to run pinballx as admin.

What is in your dmddevice.log, after you launch the game ?(properly this file exists in the directory  c:\Visual Pinball

And if your exit pinballx, launch a command prompt and launch :

"c:\Visual Pinball\VPinballX.exe" /play -"c:\Visual Pinball\Tables\Super Mario Bros (Gottlieb 1992)_Bigus(MOD)2.0.vpx"

Will it work correctly ?

What version of visual pinball you use ? And what architecture?

I just tested it on my cab (and noticed I'm not on latest release of PinballX -shame- -shame-)
I'm running VP 10.8 rev 1514, Pinmame 3.6 SC and noticed that my SMB3.zip had an error (this was changed when moving to pinmame 3.5.

After fixing the rom, I was able to launch SMB again.
Within PinballX I launch SMB 3 followed by LOTR

Both showed a full colorized DMD when game is started
Just for your info, I have a real DMD
The only difference between you and me (and thank to @scutters who noticed it), my 'Found rom' is smb3 and not Genesis what yours is.

06:19:32.05  10/04/2023:  C:\pinball\Visual Pinball vr\VPinballX64.exe -play "c:\Pinball\Visual pinball\Tables\VPX\Super Mario Bros (Gottlieb 1992)_Bigus(MOD)1.1.vpx" -minimized  -ini "C:\pinball\Visual Pinball VR\VPinballX64.ini"
06:19:32.10  10/04/2023:  C:\Pinball\PinballX\vpauto.exe
06:19:35.97 10/04/2023: VPX Full screen exclusive mode detected
06:19:35.98 10/04/2023: VPX Full screen exclusive focus hack set
06:19:41.19  10/04/2023:  Found PinMAME ROM: smb3

attached my full log
Note : I put VP 64 bit in a sperate folder called 'Visual Pinball VR' as I was only using 64 bit only for VR, so don't get distracted by the VR in the name. it launches with the normal cabinet ini file

(I think my dmd is hidden by my backglass)

That changes things.. i thought the DMD window wasn't appearing at all!

If your backglass is u der the backglass, set it to top. Open dmddevice.ini.  i thought there was an option stay on top.

Yes there is (assuming external dmd / freezy / dmddevice is being used to display the DMD rather than vpinmame). This section in the dmddevice.ini file, set it to true;

; virtual dmd stays on top of all other windows
stayontop = false

Another option if the DMD is still behind the backglass (if you're on a newer version of B2S server) is to use the 'B2SWindowPunch', see https://github.com/vpinball/b2s-backglass/wiki/B2SWindowPunch for details

@duv67 it appears this issue may be resolved as you have opened other threads since without giving those that helped you a response.

I am going to set this thread to close and give you a few days to respond upon which it will auto-lock and you will be required to open a new thread and attach more support files to continue triage should they wish to continue giving assistance.
