wrd1972
So in the past, I had been creating my own speech files for the various titles when browsing and it was a painstaking process, but what I am seeing here with this new feature certainly makes it a ton more easy. Many thanks for adding this to PBX. You guys must have read my mind. Scary! So when I was doing this, I was using a sexy female voice that would call out the titles when scrolling, and it really made for a very cool effect. Please consider adding additional voices if possible to this feature. I will even pay a license for it if need be to have more variety. Keep up the great work Tom and all. You guys seriously rock. Adding a sexy female voice would distract the players too much and would cause that tables and systems are only changed in the frontend, so the users hear constantly the femal voice. Thats why there is only a male voice ... Just kidding. Not at pc now (enjoying a wonderful walk outside), but thought it uses the speech engine of windows. And you can change it. wrd1972
Okay I changed the voice within windows to a female voice. But, the change did not carry-over to the speech when browsing table in PBX. I researched this and saw where someone else encountered the same thing. So is there another step involved to have PBS use the voice that is selected within Windows? scutters
Strange, I just tried Run -> C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Speech\SpeechUX\sapi.cpl to change the voice and that didn't change the voice in PinballX speech plugin. But when i went through Control Panel -> Speech Recognition -> Change text-to-speech Settings (Win10) it did change the voice in PinballX!... which doesn't make much sense, and weirder still i had less voices available to choose from. Now when i go back and open the sapi.cpl file again some voices are now removed, but any changes there are now reflected in PinballX as well. So i'd suggest trying to change the voice via control panel method and see if that works.
Draco1962
What versions of Windows are both of you using? Not sure of it makes any difference but curious.

wrd1972
10 Pro here. Will try through the control panel as mentioned.
wrd1972
Okay I am seeing the same thing Scutters saw. Within the control panel (see attachment), I can change the voice and it does change for PBX. But, I only have three voices to choose from even though I downloaded several others. Yes, weird! scutters
It looks like Windows actually uses two text to speech engines (WinRT and SAPI) which probably explains some of the weirdness and differences we see in the voices listed. @wrd1972 have a look at this post https://stackoverflow.com/a/54680704 it explains things a lot better than i can and provides a possible way of getting the RT voices visible in SAPI. I haven't tried it, do so at your own risk!!!
wrd1972
I will look this weekend. Can you guys mention to Tom to consider using the one that allows a wider choice of speech options? One more thing. I am using the 7.1 SSF audio on my cab. The speech is coming out the rear right transducer. Is this the way its intended to work? Ideally, I would think it should come out the two speakers in the backbox. Just wondering if you guys are seeing the same. Is there a way that I can move the speech to the backbox speakers? You guys rock. Thanks again for the help hjere. Bill
Draco1962
Since PinballX is leveraging a built-in Windows feature, that may be as good as it gets. Otherwise, you can always submit a Feature Request to capture your interest in an expanded capability:

Any way to tweak that so it comes out the backbox speakers?

Did you attempt to leverage any of the suggested solutions in your thread here? Likely travelling down the same limited path of ambiance... And did you create a Feature Request as was suggested by Tom in that thread? 😎

I have 7.1 sound set up on the cab (in audio settings the front speakers are the backbox speakers) and using the text to speech preview option or the speak game names plugin in PinballX the voice is from the backbox speakers
