[RESOLVED] pinballX disabling j2k input to daphne

I have daphne loader working with joy2key outside pinballX just fine.all buttons work.all good.

I added daphne loader to "other systems" in settings and the game loads fine into attract mode as it should.

Now the problems start .my j2k profile is set to daphne loader,however pinballx is somehow not allowing any input from my joystick/buttons...the only button that do work are exit emulator...no j2k input has any effect.iv tried to look at the keyboard and joystick inputs in pinballx settings to match up the inputs with j2k and it seems as if pinballx wont "let go" and allow j2k to have input controll when daphne is running and pinballx is running at same time.

It seems like a Simple enough input focus issue rather than a button conflict problem.and im betting this has come up before....my daphne wont input without j2k,so pinballX is getting in the way somehow,any ideas anyone?

Do you have pinballx running as admin (set on exe file?)

If so, you properly need to run daphne as well as admin.

I took all "run as admin" off all exes.

So far and combination still not working.

Im pretty experienced at pinballx and j2k...i have a vpin running daphne on pinballX it works on the vpin.i tried to copy files and profiles but no good. ..

Its driving me nuts... on its own daphne loader and j2k run great,but through pinballX?....no input...sigh

Ok. I dont have experience with daphne, but have an Elgato stream deck. That device didn't work when I have pbx running as admin. So now the stream desk running as Dmin and all works fine

Thank you for replying..i have tried your suggestion,but no luck.also gave all permissions to both exe(pinballX and j2k)...no good.perplexing.... ill keep trying things out..

What happens if you ALT+TAB to Daphne after launching from PinballX. Does the input work then?

(just to figure out if it's a windows focus issue or something else)

Not sure if you have any plugins enabled in PinballX (please attach log & ini files). You could try disabling them if you do.

Like Mike, i've no experience with Daphne.. does it have fullscreen / windowed modes that can be toggled?

I have no plugins for pinballX. But i Will try your suggestion when home.daphne does have windowed/fulscreen options.

So ill be trying alt tab as well...

Oddly enough i Managed to get dragons lair working from the pinballX menu this morning...but space ace has EXACTLY  the same input and command line arguments but no input...i checked very carefully all parameters and even syntax to be sure they are the same.

Thats even more puzzling.they both have same button layout,both in joy2key and in pinballX command line.just no input in Space Ace.

Keeping in mind dragons lair in this config has input, space ace does not.. i tried alt tab to focus windows but same result..

I will try to setup the same as you has and will reproduce the issue.

But it takes some time. I didnt touch my arcade machine for a long time, but hope daphne and the games are on the arcade , so I can put it on my test machine

Not sure if it's a factor or not but you have system 3 (spaceace) set up as a VP system type in PinballX settings, might be worth trying it as 'custom' like system 2 (daphne).  

Worth ruling out anyway, if it's nothing i guess we wait to see if Mike can reproduce..

Ok.. so i changed the setting from visual pinball to a "custom" in the settings... no change.at least t h ats outta the way.

I don't have daphne with games on my arcade machine, so not able to reproduce it.

Can you post your pinballx ini file etc from the working vpin daphne install?.  Must be a difference in setup somewhere.

Agreed. I was headscratching on this one when the OP noted it was working on another rig so my first thought was a configuration issue and not a bug in PinballX.

joy2key runs as admin fom the programsx86 folder,pinballX non admin c: drve,... On the non working setup,j2k is non admin,runs from desktop,pinballX is at c:\ drive.non admin...... dragons lair input works on both....,space ace input works only on the above setup.hope this helps.Also working setup is win10,nonworking is in win7 ultimate.

Silly suggestion, mirror app install locations of non-working with those on the working system and see if that fixes the issue?

As well as dracos suggestion you should also note some differences in your pinballx config;

Non Working

Parameters=lair vldp -fullscreen_window -ignore_aspect_ratio -x 1280 -y 1024 -framefile "C:\Daphne\dl\vldp_dl/ace/ace.txt
WaitForProcess=DaphneLoader.exe

Working (3 diffs highlighted in orange)

Parameters=ace vldp -fullscreen_window -ignore_aspect_ratio -x 1024 -y 1920 -framefile "C:\Daphne\dl\vldp_dl\ace\ace.txt"
WaitForProcess=Daphne.exe

I'd start by changing those to match first off.

So ok.heres where were at....

Mirrored folder placement and config to exactly match working install.

Through daphne laoder,both games accept input via j2k with same profile,aspect ratio,everthing the same,except the roms used.(lair and ace roms).both sets of command line arguments are the same...all works well,all fullscreen etc..happy campers.

J2k joysticks are set up so no matter which joystick daphne sees first?.the inputs will be the same,daphne input settings exact match for both games and work for dragons lair,both inside daphne loader,and in pinballX.

Sadly space ace is getting no input from either joystick,through pinballX,but works  fine in daphne loader...

In short,im back to square 1...

Both work as expected in the loader,with j2k,but no input for space ace through pinballX. Dragons lair is Aok.....

If it was a Button conflict with pinballX.i would expect,dragons lair to be not working,but its fine,space ace has same parameters,but no joy...dammmmm...

SOLVED!!!!!!

Command line paramaters line should start with "ace" not "lair"...

Tiny difference,BUT this made daphne read the lair video number list but still played the space ace video...the daphne loader log shows it starting space ace then the video callouts in the log show dragons lair video names and numbers.BUT loader plays the space ace scene of the same number in its list.

In short the parameter "ace" chooses the correct list and video... AND fixes no input issue.(dont know exactly why it just works).

Thank you all for helping me find this solution...works a treat..the above configs with that small change will help others  to get daphne working in thier systems..daphne is notoriously sketchy to get working.thank you all so much
