swallis7
I have a ReadMe.txt file for each of my tables, with table notes and special instructions if applicable. Before playing a table I don't want to: Exit PinballX, find then look at the ReadMe file, then restart PinballX; just to see if there is any special instructions. Is there a way to make PinballX display the readme.txt for the current table (like naming it the same as the table file)?
Mike_da_Spike
Not sure what you want, but pinballx uses instructions cards. These are instruction how a table works and can be viewed within Pinballx or even during gameplay. If you want your txt files to be used, maybe convert them to an instruction card extension and put it into the correct folder. Database manager can help you easily to drag and drop the files and save them. If you want to view your text files before playing, you can maybe do a Launch before command that shows the text file before launching a table Hope this make sense
scutters
Not sure what you have in your readme files. This is a typical instruction card image; Maybe you can just use those rather than converting your files?, and then map PinballX to show them on a button press (or even have them permanently displayed for each table on their own screen) Let us know if you need more help
swallis7
I have instruction cards too and they are working, except if i use .PNG files with more then one page it only displays one page. (i put a " 1" after the first, and " 2" after the second etc). .SWF works even with multi-pages. I make a readme.txt whenever I download a table, and put any notes in it the author may have put on the download page, or anything special I figure out myself, like "Press A for this type of game" or "Press X to make this happen." PinballX has an "Information" page that displays how many times you've played a table, I wish it would display a "TABLENAME.txt" file below that info or maybe on another page. As Draco mentioned, you can add a feature request, but maybe a good friend of my can help you. @scutterscreated multiple plugins that displays information. maybe he can add that to his statistics plugin. If you ask him nicely and pass him some beers
swallis7
It would take me wayyy too long to paste info from each of my 300 tables ReadMe's to an .XML or .INI file. Renaming each Readme to match each table's name seems ok (maybe for other user's also?). I thought maybe PinballX had this functionality already. I guess I'll leave them like they are for now. P.S. Multi-page .PNG instruction cards ARE working for me now. Thank you for your help!! Steven
Draco1962
My guess is that if you already have the txt files named the same as the table names, it may not be as difficult to combine them into one file as you might think. As for your txt files, if you "google" convert text to png you will come across mostly online apps to convert your text files into png to work with the built-in functionality.
scutters
Draco makes a good point!... you may well be able to bulk convert the readme's to page 2 instruction cards or something. The stats plugin Mike mentioned could display a comment field from the xml, although it'd be one line only and you'd need to edit the xml or use database manager for the comment fields (doesn't sound like a plan from your previous comment)... Maybe there is one other existing option though, but it would depend on your setup flexibility - if you have room on a dmd lcd screen or somewhere you could probably open the text files in notepad to a set location as a launch before process and close it after when exiting the table. Tom Speirs
Convert-It will convert to txt to PNG, just so you know. Still free with Lifetime GameEx.
