ode1979
Well this is not a pbx related question but rather a general digital or virtual pinball question. Ive seen videos of pinball games that almost look real, like 3d , and the ball rolls flawesly. I allready downloaded lots of tables from vp, vpx, pfx2 and 3 and future pinball, but not one looks like that. Im using a potato pc with my setup, 3rd gen i5 pc with 8gb ram and an 1gb hd4650 or 6450 cant remember the name of the amd card. So its a low level setup, that i have to say, VP runs nice but dont look good, vpx runs nice too, pfx2 and 3, run ok, and most future pinball run ok, but dont look to realistic. A friend of mine, thinks an rx580 8gb card would do the trick, but i decided to ask the most experinced folks here, what "low" budget equipment would be recomended to and by "low" i really mean something a poor dad living in a poor country could afford. You see, for me here, a 3rd gen i5 with 8gb and a 21 inch monitor and 1 gb amd card i got that for 150 dlls, so to spend 150dlls in a rx580 its a huge deal. Anyway any recomendations or opinions are wellcome, thanks for your help.
scutters
It might not be your hardware. with VPX it might be the table versions you downloaded didn't have the best resources available. Later / different versions might have done (have a look at https://vpdb.io/ for some really sharp looking VPX tables). What resolution are you running on the 21" monitor, 1920*1080 or a lower setting? it could just be the resolution if no games look good. Do images look good on it? (sorry if i misunderstood your post, i understood it as games play ok but graphics don't look great)
ode1979
Well ,playfield runs at 1360x768 and backglass at 1280x1024, i really don care much on the backglass, but if i try to run at 1920x1080 things slow down alot.
Mike_da_Spike
Not sure what monitor/tv you have, but I run 4k on my tv. Not say I have a low budget pc (althought some people say it is crappy ). You need to investigate it. First find your bottleneck. Is it cpu, gpu or ram (or multiple) I run on an I7 7th gen, 16gb ram, SSD (too bad its sata @500mbs), rtx 2070 gpu and a Samsung 40" 4k tv. This is a picture I took yesterday with my phone, because it has a stuck ball, but looking at it, do you see different between a virual table and a real ?) I hope you understand what I try too say.. Your picture looks awsome, congrats, maybe someday i would be able to afford a nice pc like yours to really taste this hobby. Congrats mike. Mike_da_Spike
Im not native English and doesn't want to be sarcastic. I only wanted to say that you cannot expect miracles if you have low budget. For full HD , I think you need to upgrade your video card. 1gb is not much. Dont know a lot about and video cards, but some nvidia 1150/1160 should do it. I had a nvidia 1060 (6gb) in the past and runned smooth for fullhd, but for 4k it wasn't powerfull enough But as I said, check first what is causing your issue (cpu/mem/gpu)

Ignoring the speed of the game, do the graphics look good to you at 1920*1080?. If so and you're not planning to go to a larger screen (with higher resolution) then something like a GTX1050TI might be enough for you (i'm not familiar with AMD cards but RX580 seems to be on par with a GTX1060, so that would be just about good enough to run at 4K - but only just and you'd need to tweak graphics settings down here and there). Edit; and for VPX in video settings make sure you set FPS Vsync limiter and max prerendered frames to 1, set to use exclusive fullscreen and turn off AA. You may be able to run AA later with a new graphics card.
Draco1962
Omitted from conversation is another important piece - the motherboard. While motherboards will support many CPUs within a family type, and accept most GPUs, you may find yourself limited by the number of PCIe lanes available for the card. Likely not an issue if you buy the latest and greatest hardware across the board. If you buy something off the clearance rack that has been on the market for a while, research is a must. https://www.techradar.com/how-to/how-to-install-a-graphics-card

Mike_da_Spike
Good to hear. There are some photo realistics tables from this and last year. Those really look amazing, but because of all those high res pictures, you need power (mem and gpu mostly) Check also your visual pinball settings to match your pc hardware. And when playimg visual pinball, hit f11 to show the fps. This will indicates if your system is showing it smoothly (but you will noticed it too)
