MNMax21
So.. I built a large game table. Mainly wanted it for board games, puzzles, poker, etc. It has a sort of inset, drop-down area where the board games, etc. can be played. It then has inserts on top that make the table flat for use for other things. I also put in lighting that can be a steady color, do a pattern, or even fluctuate to the music beat. I am going to post some pictures. My wife thinks I can make and sell these tables. I am wondering what you all would pay for something like this? Just wondering if it would even turn a profit. Hope you like it. (Arcade is not for sale... haha. I built that too.)
hansolo77
Nice! With the inserts it looks cat friendly. That's one of the biggest reasons we don't do board games or puzzles at home anymore. If there was a way to play the game, then say "I'm going to bed" and in effect "save" the game till later, that'd be great. Of course, in a normal house without pets that's not a problem. But anybody with cats at least would know the struggles.
MNMax21
Yes, that's the benefit here too. There is currently a puzzle in there for the kids of the solar system. When not in use for that, the tops can just go on and keep it where you left it. It then allows for the ordinary use of the table. I put in a waterproof(resistant) scuba material on the bottom of the board game area for easy wipe up when the kids inevitably spill. RIP-Felix
Nice work. I like the insert so it's just a table when it's not game time. Just my preferences, but I would change the following: I would soften the edges with decorative routing. Might keep a kid from needing stitches. Looks more professional too. I'd modify the cup holders into miniature pool pockets that double as a cup holders. I'd prefer either distressed white, or red (cherry or slightly darker) stained wood. I'd rather have a green felt game board. Make the legs fold up so it can be stored under a bed or couch. If it were mass produced with the changes above I wouldn't pay more than $400 for it. I don't need this and in truth, If I wanted one, I'd rather make it. Ballpark I think you could sell them for $400. And for that, I don't know that it'd be worth it. MNMax21
Thanks for the feedback. I can answer some of it. I decided against routing for this as I wanted a more farmhouse look. I don’t know what a mini pool pocket is. Would it hold a drink? These are slightly larger in size cup holders, because I hate not fitting certain drinks/cups in the cup holder. I think the purchase would allow for a choice of wood. This was purchased via Home Depot wood. It’s oak. Our house woodwork (doors, cabinets, etc. is oak, so I was mainly going for that. There aren’t too many amazing choices at Home Depot for wood and didn’t want to pay a large amount. Oak has always stained better than pine, at least for me. The felt board would be customized stuff too and easily done. Just order different fabric. I went black scuba type material, because I knew my kids would spill on it in like the first day and I’d be devastated. Green felt is great, it it’s not the best with liquid and stains. it’s a pretty heavy table with oak and the material, etc. I don’t think this would be a fold up type deal. It needs its own space. Maybe even replace a dining table type thing. I don’t know that there are too many large wood built tables that fold up? $400 would maybe turn a profit, but it’s close after materials. Thanks for the feedback.
tthurman
That's a great idea! I have fond memories of playing board games around the kitchen table and puzzles in the dining room, but no room for something like that in my present living conditions. I suppose it breaks down adequately to fit through doors

Seems like there would be a way of making them serve both purposes. 23 hours ago, MNMax21 said: it’s a pretty heavy table with oak and the material, etc. I don’t think this would be a fold up type deal. tthurman
Hah, have you ever seen his cab thread? Large and in charge, no wimpy lightweight fold-able construction here
