simbamame

Recommended Posts

hi guys,

can annoy point me in the right direction, when playing mame games just before the game loads it shows what controls are used per game, my control panel is set differently so would like to alter the picture settings to my  control panel config but cant find this setting. Also where is the file or setting that puts the names overlay for what each button does as i cant seem to find a config file or setting for this.

As always any help greatly appreciated.

enclosed current view i wish to alter.

I've managed to sort my control panel buttons picture out except where the text goes.

I need to move where the text displays as you can see from the enclosed i need to move the text down for 1 ( thrust )  and up for the other { reverse ship ) but ive

no idea where the settings for these are, i assume in the theme config? but  as ive never edited a theme ive no idea where this is done.

Again any help appreciated. Ian

Hey Ian - long time no see! I do not believe this to be a theme issue. I've seen this regardless of the themes I have used over the years and in both GameEx and Arcade Edition (no Theme Editor).

Can you attach copies of your gameex.ini and log.txt files for review? Thanks!

Thanks tthurnman, ive looked at the above and to be honest this doesn't do what i need, it seems that is just for remapping the keys as opposed to showing what each button does per game, but  was still an interesting read as i didnt realise you can run a 2nd screen as im intending putting a 2nd screen to use as marque shower so might be useful :-)

I merged the two topics as they are about the same thing. There is a bit of a learning curve with CPWizard but I may give it a go with my setup or in concert with CPWizBiz if compatible with 64-bit version of AE and single screen setups.

Did you figure this out?

If so, what did you do?

Thanks!

I did not, i managed to design a new panel but the labels did not match up, but im going to try this cpwizbiz and see if that does the job :-)

Just read that. Another reason for encouraging saving projects to the FTP or Repository as appropriate. That way, even if support goes necro, a valuable app or plugin, so long as compatibility with the frontend is retained, doesn't meet the same fate.

I respect what he is doing and wish him well in his endeavors. I haven't given up hope, however. ;)

Heyup all.

Not sure what was happening with that link, but I've just tried it and it works fine my end:

https://magoarcade.org/wp/cpwizbiz/

There are a series of vids around this here:

However:

CAUTION: CPWizBiz is no longer being developed or maintained. I wrote this when I started learning coding and as such, it's a bit shonky. I think it will still work, but I do not support it. I'm working on a new piece of software that includes a controls viewer and I'm hoping to make it compatible with all the major front ends (so you can use your FE of choice and use my software as the controls viewer).

It should work on 64-bit systems. Hope helps.

The download link appears to be working now. Will check out the vids for instruction on how to implement and manage.

Looking forward for your next app! Anything that makes it easier to implement and customize the user experience is a good thing and you "bring good things to light!" Have a bag of peanuts on me!

It really may be worth waiting, though. I've just quit my job and looking to work on my new app full time (ish). Should be 3-6 months. There won't be any CPWizBiz>NewApp export - so you'd have to start again with individual game controls.
