bpjacobsen
see attached ini and log. initially I saw in the log it said access denied to the ini so I opened full control permissions. Now the log has no error but when I try to load a future pinball table, pbx just sits and I have to kill it. However, the pbx process still runs after killing the app then it seems to load the table unless I kill the pbx process in task manager. vpx works fine. Is there something wrong with a setting? FP works fine outside of pbx. FYI, I'm loading fp via bam. PinballX.ini log.txt
Tom Speirs
Looks like you are launching FutureDMD not bam or future pinball. Is this supposed to be a launch before and set to not wait instead?
bpjacobsen
the idea is to launch fploader.exe which is what runs future pinball but via the bam folder, and load the future dmd when loading the table. You have to load FP via the BAM folder in order for it to use the BAM physics engine.
Mike_da_Spike
But you launch futuredmd instead of fploader. Fploader should launch futuredmd
scutters
Try changing the launch before for futuredmd to not wait for exit. This line in the ini file ([FuturePinball] section) to False; LaunchBeforeWaitForExit=True
bpjacobsen
from what someone else using this said, fploader does not load future dmd automatically. You have to use pbx to load future dmd in addition to running the fp/table. Per my attached screenshot, you can see that I am doing just that. the first section handles fploader and the 2nd section handles future dmd. also, as a test, I removed the future dmd component and what I am finding is it does look like it's loading the table in the background but all I get is the backglass. the playfield just comes up black. If you hit alt tab and tab until you hit where you can see the table in the process of loading, hold the alt key down and watch it load with the progress bar, but then when it finishes loading, there is no playfield. Just black. The BG loads fine. really strange. Until I can get this working normally, I'm leaving the future dmd setting out of it. Once I get this working, then I can try adding the dmd part. Question remains, why on earth is the playfield not loading? I attached the updated pinballx.ini and fresh log. The log shows me nothing. But just for giggles, I did try setting the above to false but no difference. Right now again, I have no future dmd parameters as I'm trying to figure out why the playfield won't load. It works fine outside of pbx so this has to be a pbx issue. log.txt PinballX.ini
scutters
Ok then... ignore future dmd for now, Add / STAYINRAM to your FP launch parameters.. so; Parameters=/open "[TABLEPATH]\[TABLEFILE]" /play /exit /arcaderender /STAYINRAM
bpjacobsen
had that already but in the beginning. copied yours exactly but same issue. It's like it loads hidden or something. yet it works fine outside PBX. updated ini attached. PinballX.ini
scutters
Are FP settings as described here?
bpjacobsen
with the exception of an issue Im' having with the backglass not filling the whole screen, yes, it is setup per Terry's mega guide. The playfield loads fine directly from bam but I can't for the life of me get it to load in pbx.
scutters
I'm just about out of ideas then, your setup should be good. One other thing to check is if FP & PinballX are running as admin, if they're not then try setting both of them to run as admin (and confirm if you've tried changing compatibility settings for FP & FPloader (seems they are sometimes needed for in win7 but as i'm win10 i don't know)
bpjacobsen
TerryRed's mega guide says NOT to run fp as admin. I don't think that would matter. I need to resolve my BG monitor issue before I even worry about pbx though for now. it's not displaying correctly. It's acting like there is less size than there is. as if it thinks the BG and dmd monitors are swapped somehow. but not sure. ARGH! this is all really so frustrating. Tom Speirs
Its been mentioned several time here. But for BAM I believe you need to add /STAYINRAM to the command line. Also I think you need to remove /ARCADERENDER This comes up about a couple of times a year and I chime in. I guess Terry's guide is wrong? He bats for the other side now so I guess it will stay wrong? As for the backglass size you probably need to mess with high dpi compatibility for the Future Pinball exe. its pre windows 8. As for the frustration. I hear you. I'm surprised I manage to keep my cool like I do. Like everything in life though launching your cabinet out the window is not the solution. Just a temporary fix. lol.

Ok, but also see http://www.gopinball.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=84&t=6054 "If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, add a check mark to the option, "Run this program in compatibility mode for". Then select "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)" from the pull down list. Then put a check mark in "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings". Put a check mark in the option for "Run this program as an administrator". The other options may be left unchecked. " Like i say, i'm not win7 so i don't know which is right, sorry! Draco1962
Run it as admin. What have you got to lose?
bpjacobsen
tried all the above and nothing works. Argh! thanks all for trying. guess I'll be tabling this for now (pun intended) and sticking with VPX. it's a shame b/c I really like the graphics of these newer bam tables. scutters
Come back to it another day!.. If / when you do recheck all FP settings. It might be one small thing that's been missed like the load image into table editor option.
bpjacobsen
wait! so in the mega guide, I don't see what the settings are supposed to be for back box. I realized I only set the for playfield, but you have to switch the radio button to back box and set those too. anyone know what the resolution is supposed to be and what boxes should be checked in FP video options for back box? this might be key for my size issue. though it still prob won't resolve why the playfield won't display when run in pbx. bpjacobsen
Fixed the BG issue! I set back box to full screen and max resolution option, then was able to adjust to fill my whole screen. Yippee! However, Im' still baffled and stuck on why PBX won't load it just the same. the BG loads fine but still the darn playfield is black. I noticed it flashed on for a second but then stayed black. Hmmmmm
Tom Speirs
I have not tested future pinball for a couple of years. It could well be broken but nobody has reported anything. Could you post the log with your changes please? Your initial settings are missing the /STAYINRAM which is definitely required for BAM. https://www.vpforums.org/index.php?showtopic=25739
Tom Speirs
Please confirm. If there is still an issue I will set it up on the cab and make sure it works. Cheers.

Tom Speirs
Yeah, that's wrong. To cut a long story short replace PinballX.ini with the attached. PinballX.ini
bpjacobsen
unfortunately, that made no difference. I decided to video myself loading the table and hitting alt tab so you can see exactly what I'm seeing. ONce the table supposedly loads, I'm left with the BG, dmd, and black playfield. Here is a youtube video link so you can hopefully get the idea of what I'm dealing with: (note that in order to keep the pre-load table screen displayed I am holding down the alt key after alt tabbing to where you can see the table loading. Otherwise, the playfield screen would just be black the whole time:
Tom Speirs
Okay. Ill have a look here and make sure future pinball is still working. I think I may have broken something.
