New Theme WIP Questions

This theme looks awesome and I would love to test it but I only have 800x600 at the most on my 27" Wells Gardner.

You could try it out, but I'm 99% positive that you'll get an error about having 'an object outside of the resolution size' or something like that. No worries, though; there will be an 800x600 version soon.

I have it moved into my themes, and the vahalla background shows up, but none of the other images. Example, it shows the console in each emulator but its at the top left of the screen, and none of the character show. What could I be doing wrong

Did you go into the GameEx Config, select one of your emulators (Ex: Snes) and find the option that lets you select a 'Custom Background'? (Ex: select 'SNESBak.png') It's a common mistake. If it's something else, I need to know :blink:

You can also add it to the theme.ini like this:

Open your theme.ini in a text editor.

Put the cursor at the bottom and paste this line

[Emulator_1]

CustomBackground=

Repeat this for each of your emulators (where Emulator 1 is your Playstation emulator for example)

[Emulator_1]

CustomBackground=psbak.png

Repeat for each emulator you want to use a custom sceen for, like this

[Emulator_1]

CustomBackground=psbak.png

[Emulator_2]

CustomBackground=n64bak.png

[Emulator_3]

CustomBackground=snesbak.png

[Emulator_4]

CustomBackground=nesbak.png

[Emulator_5]

CustomBackground=gbabak.png

...and so on. Save and exit.

What about this theme in 640x480 resolution? I have a Wells Gardner 27 but 800x600 gets all fuzzy on me. I think it is going bad. 640x480 is just perfect. I would be willing to pay for your efforts

is 640x480 achieved by changing the image size to that in pixels?

Yes 640x480 is 640 pixels wide by 480 pixels high.

hmm money to do themes...hehe might get me interested in this.

Tho I still have yet to finish my consol icons....after that I might start looking to do a theme...tho likely be for my self so it would be 1280x1024 since I'm a ghetto gamer on my PC currently.

Tho I'll likely release my work\source files so that others can toy with them or resize as needed.

This theme is awsome!!! Thank you ... I wish I had half the artistic skill some of you guys do. 640 X 480 would be most desirable for those of us with the Wells VGA monitors. Also there is another theme out there that might provide some graohics for you to fill in for some of themes that was put together by Talking Bull ..Just a thought but this is sweet..I can't wait for the lower res verson to slap it on the cab..Thanks allot!

I have added the specified image to the custom background and it still shows my old logos. I wonder why its doing this any thought. I haven't had time to try adultreys idea yet.

I think you need to change the Start Page logo aswell as the background for each emulator.

Its much better to add this is the theme.ini instead of using the config app, gameex can forget which backgrounds to use when you switch themes because the filenames arent the same in all themes.

So i'd add this stuff at the end of the emulator, here's an example of one:

[Emulator_10]

StartPageLogo=neogeo 2

CustomBackground=neogeobak.png

Make sure to leave the .png at the end of the startpagelogo.

Give it a try, its worth setting up

I've created a few 'missing' emulator screens, and even modified a couple of the ones I didn't like.

Hi Stephen, there's 2 ways:

The first way is to use the config app to change the start page logo & custom background for each emulator. However, if you change to a different theme you will have to add all in again, or you will have the arrow.png as a background instead of firebrand_X's lovely stuff.

The second method is the one i described before, which is to add this information to the 'theme.ini' in the "Default - Valhalla Default 1024x768" folder. Here's what to do if your editing the 'theme.ini'

1. Get a pen and paper handy, or open use notepad.

2. Open up the GameEx Configuration, and go to the emulator pages, and make a note of which emulator is assigned to each number.

3. Now add the names of the corresponding backgrounds & icons to the list below, i.e.

[Emulator_6]
StartPageLogo=3do
CustomBackground=3dobak.png
[Emulator_7]
StartPageLogo=gba
CustomBackground=gbabak.png

(Its probably easiest to go into the 'logos' folder & view it as thumbnails to help find the names)

It may seem like a pain, but its definately the best way.

p.s. Firebrand X, its lookin good my man, keep it up. I had a quick go on 'Demon's Crest' on the snes, its too hard for me, i think i'll still to the kiddies stuff

You should keep playing, it really is a great game, though highly underrated. Apparently that game generated NEGATIVE sales during the holidays because of the theme, but almost everyone who's played it liked it.

Idont know what's going on but I'm still having problems. I finally got the correct logos to work by adding what you toldme to in the theme.ini. That allowed the logos to be shown, but not the backgrounds. I can't get them to showup. Ive triedboth methods but either work. Any ideas?

Can you post your theme.ini as a txt file & i'll see if there's anything wrong.

You could try updating gameex to the most recent version...other than that im out of ideas, sorry.

I belive it is the most updated version, right before I tried it I updated Thanks for your help I might try it on my other computer and see if that works.

Update I've gotten it to work correctly just to let everyone know. I had to uninstall and reinstall so Im not quite sure what it was.
