Im not using a PI though in my case. Using Ubuntu with an intel mini-itx build.

I also setup the cloudflare secure DNS.

This is used in conjunction with a mini-itx pfsense router. Also highly recommended.

Ive only had to manually whitelist once and its unbelievable how much junk there is out there. 38% of my dns requests are blocked for me. You can imagine how much bandwidth that saves alone.

Mine is running on a CanaKit Pi 3 B+ also with Cloundfare secure DNS, but through a RT2600AC (you sold me on Synology).  The Canakit is a  good value at $80, but the 3 B+ is total overkill for Pi-Hole.

I'm also using the Privacy Badger extension for my browser and have been very satisfied with the results.

Got to thank you for pointing me to it buddy but as for overkill, that's me in a nutshell, lol! Had you not noticed that!?

yes, I noticed!   If I'm over-killing It running Pi-Hole on 3 B+ then your knocking it out of the park on an Intel mini-itx build.

Things have moved on and my pfsense box will do it without the need for pi-hole now. So moved over to a pfsense only solution now. All working very nice and just need the one box
