[RESOLVED] GameEx crashing again... spinning cursor is all I see

So I tried GameEx again and it was actually working pretty well....  But got the update for Windows 10, not sure there is a relation, but now my box runs fine for awhile but then I get a cursor spinning and nothing I can do but shut off my box.     I went and made sure all USB power saving are off.... doesn't matter...  eventually I get the spinning cursor and the only solution is to kill power.

Nothing to really see in the log....  But here it is

It looks like since a recent Windows 10 update, the box goes into possibly power saving mode.   Maybe??  I've went to device manager and basically disable everything from being shutdown from power savings.   I must be missing something.

Drivers are usually one of the first things impacted by these Win 10 updates.

Download and install the latest drivers for your GPU and possibly sound. MS likes to install their generic drivers which can wreak havoc.

LAV Codecs which can be found here . Be sure to install both 32-bit and 64-bit. Uninstall any other codecs you may have active first.

Also, just for clarification, it is only when GameEx is going into attract mode that this crash is occurring but not when you are active and launching games from within, correct?

Yeah, the box NEVER crashes running  normally, but when I leave GameEx running I get the black screen of death.   The box isn't dead, just that GameEx has disabled basic input.   If I remote desktop into it I can recover.  GameEx has a serious issue.    I will find a way to fix it, like I did before.   But thanks for your input. Was just hoping that someone else had seen this.

It looks like MAME is still running based on the log. Maybe MAME is the problem and it is not a GameEx issues after all?

You have not got a lot of ram on that system as you will know. You would proably be better running windows 32 bit.

MAME crashed for sure....  Your always up front gui still running.   But GameEx doesn't respond.  Most certainly a bug in GameEx.   If I run a MAME game only via GameEx, it will run for days.  I tested that, that actually works.  Let GameEx launch stuff via screen saver, box will die in a short period of time.... maybe 20 minutes or so... sometimes maybe an hour...., the box isn't dead, just the always on top GameEx gui is taking over or GameEx died, hard to say which, but only a reset will fix.   If I run my game program it never dies.... but I like GameEx launcher and gui, please fix the bug.  nothing to do with memory....  Send me a message offline and lets debug this.

Since others are running without issue, it may be a bug or something with your specific setup.

You may need to dig through your Event Viewer logs to see there are any errors or warnings that stand out. Hard to tell you what to look for there.

Please attach a new copy of your log.txt file right after it crashes in attract mode. Also attach a copy of your gameex.ini file.

Like I said it may well be an issue with MAME or the fact that it is kept launching and closing on a low powered machine. Hard to say at this point. I am happy to try and fix the issue if I can but little to go on at the moment.

So I switched over to just use videos in attract.   I kind of like that mode but the videos are being stretched.   I was thinking about resampling them all but isn't there an option in GameEx to maintain ratio?

Because I didn't like the stretched videos I downloaded a Mame x64 0.198 version with No Nag.  All I did was overwrite the mame64.exe and now my box has run for two days in full attract mode without crashing.  No idea what other options were compiled in but the stock 0.198 is possibly the problem???  But I also got a GameEx update at roughly the same time, so not real sure what the fix was, but everything seems to be working again.
