tthurman Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Road trip to Music City yesterday. A lot going on in Nashville these days, that finds the city growing at a decent pace. it's become quite the sports hub, and the days of only county concerts, they are long over. First up, much to my dismay, was the Country Music Hall of Fame. Hey, I got outvoted! I must admit, the new venue is pretty amazing, and some of the old stuff I find interesting, plus it can't be all bad with "Bandit" on the scene. With nearly five hours to burn, it was time for some fun. During my last trip in April I stumbled upon "Headquarters Beercade", which was open, but clearly in process too. Four months later, it's done! All the games were set to free play, including all the pins, except Aerosmith. They have some killer pins, Ghostbusters, the new KISS, Walking Dead, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Attack from Mars, Metallica, Pinbot and Star Trek are the ones I immediately remember. Regardless, after a few rounds of Asteroids and DK, I spent the rest of my time in this corner! A small sampling of the rest is below. They probably had 30 or so arcade games along with foosball, hockey and the like and perhaps 10 pins. It's not huge, so this was a good games to bar tables ratio. The wall of cassettes mentioned in the article I linked, yeah it was impressively large! The highlight of the evening however started at 8. Never did I take advantage of the opportunity to see Pink Floyd, so when this trip was suggested to me earlier in the year, I couldn't say no. It was a long drive home last night at 3 AM, but it was wroth it. The Roger Waters show was great. I could have done without the political overtones, but let's face it, that isn't anything new here. Regardless the performance was exceptional, surprisingly so without Gilmour. 1 Quote
stigzler Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 O.o Whao - kudos - ya seen the Floyd.. Some awesome pics Quote
RIP-Felix Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 I thought about getting tickets when they were nearby, but I didn't. I kinda wish I had gone. The other one I regret missing was Tool. I gotta just start living more and going to these things, I just don't like braving the crowds. Sounds like you had a good time, looks fun! Quote
Adultery Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Seen Tool twice, and A Perfect Circle twice also. Both were great, but Tool during the Lateralis tour was quite possibly the best show I've ever seen, up there with Rabbit In The Moon and Nine Inch Nails. I saw Tool during their ænima tour also, but Maynard thought it would be cool to not face the audience for the entire show. Weird dude there. I've seen video of Floyd but never been... I could sit through the political crap for Learning To Fly any day!! Quote

Maynard standing in the dark next to the drums was different. I'm pretty sure they announced they were never coming back to Knoxville after this show, so I'm glad I didn't miss it. As for "The Floyd", after watching the below, I see why stigzler called them that. I've been a huge fan for years, only loosely knew their history, but enough to know Waters was the root of the divide. He was almost certainly the political side of them. If your a fan, this is worth a watch if you've got the time. This cleared up some misinformation I had heard over the years, and gave me a clearer picture as to how they progressed as a band. I bought "A Nice Pair" on LP decades ago, and can't say Barrett's version of Floyd was my cup of tea, but it's interesting to see how it all played out. Quote
Draco1962 Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 I am a big Floyd fan from way back. They all had their political themes and moments, but Waters was probably the most vocal and divisive before and after the split. Quote
RIP-Felix Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Floyd's probably my favorite band if you pin me down to one, but tool is right up there with them IMO (but that one show's my age). Conversely, if you don't think Tool belongs up there with Floyd it shows your age also. Luckily I have a diverse palate for music and don't give preferential treatment to only those bands that defined the decade of my adolescence, like it seems most people do (60s classic rock Dad complaining of Grunge and Rap for instance). While I don't care for Death metal personally, I can hear the musicality. The tempo is just to rapid for my liking + the demonic screaming. I'll admit I did prefer Metallica's Black album because they slowed down, but I like fast metallica too. I don't subscribe to the fast metallica sold out and ruined fan trust with the Black album. That's bull. Widen your musical ear, and grow up! They sold more of that album that the rest, so can you really blame them for widening their appeal? It's their lively hood, don't hate just because they made a financial decision. It worked out for them and all the people who became Metallica fans because of it, like me. Quote
