I am also wanting to see how PinballX handles MAME. But PBX wont launch MAME for me at all. It tends to hang on the loading screen.

However MAME runs perfectly fine if you go and run it directly.

Attaching files.

Could be several issues at play. Do you see any MAME games displayed in PinballX? If on the same PC as your GameEx install, your path should be to the same ROM folder. Make sure that is the case. Also, did you generate an xml for your MAME games? If not, you may want to get MAME working for GameEx first before trying to do so in PinballX.

Is this correct for ROM path:

# CORE SEARCH PATH OPTIONS
#
homepath                  .
rompath                   roms
hashpath                  hash
samplepath                samples
artpath                   artwork
ctrlrpath                 ctrlr
inipath                   .;ini;ini/presets
fontpath                  .
cheatpath                 cheat
crosshairpath             crosshair
pluginspath               plugins
languagepath              language
swpath                    software

Check your MAME ROM path via PinballX Setup Wizard. If on the same PC as  your GameEx install, should be identical.

So does it go in the "Table Path" field, under "Other systems" MAME? I dont really see any other fields referncing "ROMs"

Thanks again.

Since PinballX is mainly for pinball, tabled is used and is synonymous with ROM.

I would just put the rom path in mame.ini not in the setup wizard. I think Draco is getting confused with GameEx.

According to your MAME.ini right now it is looking in the roms folder within where your mame.exe is.

I don't think I am as confused as you think I am... ;)

This is from his pinballx.ini:

[System_1]
Name=MAME
Enabled=True
WorkingPath=C:\Emulators\Mame32
TablePath=C:\MAME Dummy
Executable=mame64.exe
Parameters=[TABLEFILE]

SystemType=0
LaunchBeforeExecutable=

Here is my MAME entry from my pinballx.ini (which works BTW):

[System_2]
Name=MAME
Enabled=True
WorkingPath=C:\Emulators\MAME 0.166
TablePath=C:\ROMS\MAME 0.166
Executable=mame.exe
Parameters=[TABLEFILE]
SystemType=0
LaunchBeforeEnabled=False
LaunchBeforeWorkingPath=

LaunchBeforeExecutable=

Do you see anything amiss in the four lines in bold red? Also, looks like some additional parameters are missing (he lacks the two lines in bold text in my ini file).

Following is my MAME.ini Core Path entry:

# CORE SEARCH PATH OPTIONS
#
rompath    C:\ROMS\MAME 0.166
hashpath                  hash
samplepath                samples
artpath                   artwork
ctrlrpath                 ctrlr
inipath                   .;ini
fontpath                  .
cheatpath                 cheat
crosshairpath             crosshair

Hopefully this will be enough to get him on the right path.  He will need to let us know if he has created a mame.xml file and has that in use as well. My guess is not at this point.

Not looking for a longest wang competition buddy was just saying the table path in pinballx is irrelevant for MAME and the rom path for MAME needs to set in mame.ini which you didn't mention, Its actually recommended not to set the table path for MAME and use a dummy location.

PS: Yours is longer. lol ;)

I was not aware of this setting requirement, having seen it setup the same as mine almost since I first put MAME on the cab. Will add that to the "good to know" filecard.

He will need to let us know about the xml.

@wrd1972 - Just checking in to see if you are still working on this issue, where you are at with it, or if you were able to resolved it with the help given so far?

Hi Draco,

I still have not gotten it to work. But I have determined that Gameex is going to be a much better front end for me since I can thumb through the many selections much more easily. Currently, it is working fine and I sure dont want to risk jacking it up. I do appreciate the assistance.
