Just wondered if anyone could offer some help please ?  Ive re-installed about 4 times and added the mame pack, but I've noticed its an old mame so I've used the current mame, Ive installed onto my S drive and pointed all the paths to that drive and not the C drive, But everything I try just hangs the game when i select one. Everything I do just doesnt work so I'm at a loss at how I can get this working. It gets as far as the creating the lists and and creating the.dats etc but thats as far as it goes. I seem to be struggling with the Mame and getting it to work.

It's deja vu all over again... Is this a GameEx issue or GameEx Evolution issue you are having?

Posted

No I dont use the evolution. I'll try and find some answers on google rather than bothering you guys i do apologise, just teething probs thats all.

It's not a problem, we're happy to help you out of a jam and won't jump on your back.

It's just that you posted this question into the GameEX Evolution (as in the evolution of GameEx, its predecessor) section of the forums. If your problem is with GameEX please use the GameEX General forum instead. A moderator may wish to move this thread to the appropriate section.

It's only a problem when your post appears in the wrong forum. I just want you to be aware so that the issue you are reporting gets prompt attention in the correct forum for the product.

Since this was the second time in the same day, I want to make sure you were aware.

Please click on the GameEx How to ask for help link in my signature for instructions on how to locate the gameex.ini and log.txt files and submit them for us to review. Thanks!

In the toolbar of the reply window is an 'eye" shaped button. That opens a spoiler in which you can paste long sections of text into. It's best to paste the log and config inside of spoilers to keep the posts more manageable.

For example:

why the flag for help?

Open the setup wizard and run Verify to check for incorrect paths.

  1. Are you using a complete romset? If so what version is it for (Mame 0.161 Romset for example)?
  2. Can you run Mame Manually outside of GameEx and play games?

It doesn't work that way, it only checks how you have it configured.  It wouldn't matter if you had it on drive Z, if it's configured correctly the verify step will see it as such, and not report any errors.

Everything points to C?

Sounds to me like you didn't correctly map the path to the directory you want it pointing at, and instead its still at it's default setting.  It doesn't get much easier than point and click, you just need to ensure you're pointing and clicking the correct directories. :D

Without seeing your ini and log though, we're all just guessing.

hiya yep i think  I'm geting confused over where all the directories should be pointing to and thinking because i had it installed on a different drive other than C drive that i had to change all the paths in the wizard to correspond with where i had installed it. I've uninstalled it now and starting again and will look as to where the .ini and log files are and I'll post it here. Thankyou for the assistance.

Well I think ive got as far as clicking on a game and either hangs on the "please wait" screen or just goes black, I dont know where the log and thew ini files are to post on here either :( I hope ive posted in the right section this time.

Click on the GameEx How to ask for help in my signature below for instructions on where to find the gameex.ini and log.txt files.

Config: C:\GameEx\CONFIG\GameEx.ini (this will depend on where you installed GameEx to, but if you let it install in the default location that's where it'll be). Just open it in notepad, select all with CTRL+A, Copy with CTRL+C, and paste into a spoiler in the reply by pressing the eye shaped button in the toolbar.

Log: C:\GameEx\LOG\log.txt (this too will depend on where you installed GameEx to, but if you let it install in the default location that's where it'll be). Just open it in notepad, select all with CTRL+A, Copy with CTRL+C, and paste into a spoiler in the reply by pressing the eye shaped button in the toolbar.

Example:

Config

  Reveal hidden contents

Log:

  Reveal hidden contents

Alternatively, you can simply attach both files. By dragging and dropping them into the reply section with the paperclip icon.

Please provide these files each time you make the changes we request and reply back with the results. This way we can confirm you properly made the changes we requested and see what the log says happened. This will greatly expedite the process of helping you. Thanks for being patient. We know you just want to get to the gaming! We'll get you there.

@GMT25 Recheck your ROM Path/s in the MAME Settings. Your GameEX.ini currently shows it set to S:\MAME ROMs-1, which seams like an odd name for a directory. If it truly is the name of the directory, then the path should be set to S:\\MAME ROMs-1 (note the additional '\')
