Tom Speirs
I've developed an application that detects, captures and encodes MAME and MESS title video sequences and I currently have two modern quad core systems burning through creation of a MAME set. They will be available to all subscribers in a few days. The captures are at the original game resolution with the display aspect ratio set to 4:3 or 3:4.All videos are 60 fps using a custom version of MAME fixing all refresh rates to 60hz.The videos should be suitable for most front ends including GameEx and PinballX.Here are some samples.View the full article
Evilforces
The videos look fantastic !!! It will be downloaded automatically for users that have GameEx subscription or we will have to put them manually on videos folder? My other question is: If we have an Emumovies subscription will be a problem if we put these videos on Mame video folder? I have understood that Emumovies checks the video size to update it if find an enhanced version on the server . What will happen if we put these videos manually and have the download option enabled from Emumovies on Gameex? Thanks in advance Tom!!!
Draco1962
If you have videos that you prefer, then why go with autoupdating? Just my opinion, but I much prefer lording over what is updated and not than having things automatically updated so I can keep what I have as I want it.
Evilforces
Hi Draco and thanks for your reply.I respect and share your opinion, but in my case I have a lot of systems configured that haven't the artwork completed and want to download it automatically when it released.Another thing is there are some arworkt that sometimes is updated with better version, resolution, etc...I don't know if we have the possibility to disable this option for some emulators or some artwork, but my goal is to have all my games with all the artwork completed, and the auto update feature make this easy for me to do that. Draco1962
Understood. It is a global setting so either on or off. I don't run that many systems so it is easier for me to run a manual process to update them.
tthurman
Disclaimer, I could be entirely off here, but this is what I'm taking away from this.If you're a happy emumovies user and supporter, there is no absolute need to change unless you just prefer these. As I recall Tom describing things, the emumovies feature in GameEx does replace older media with higher quality content when available. Although it's been a while with everything going on for me, I do see mine frequently updating when I log in.I "believe" the intent here is to simply offer some bonus content to GameEx supporters that really never plan to go the emumovies route anyway. On a side note, that looks like me playing Paperboy, I'm the window cracking king baby
Tom Speirs
Yes, exactly as Tthurmann put it. These are to offer some added value to GameEx subscribers who were previously not really offered much on the FTP and not to act as a replacement for EmuMovies.. If you prefer them great, but that's not my goal. Its just an option and an inferior one at that. Its just an automatic capture only taking up mhz. They are not hand made. DazzleHP
Hi Tom, I understand we need to disable the auto update feature if we prefer your videos, right? From what i understand no - just replace (overwrite) your current vids with the vids from the the FTP. The auto downloader won't replace something if it is already there It doesn't do any fancy checks, like file size and hashes etc, it just checks if the file exists, and if so it skips. At least, that's what i've been thinking for a long time

Me likey. Is that your own algorithm for encoding, or have you found a way to exploit something? Either way that is impressive, and i hope all future vids turn out like that! I suposse that there is almost one check to know if you have latest version of the artwork or not from Emumovies....
Tom Speirs
Thanks for the feedback guys and to confirm the downlooader built into gameex wont "update" files but the download service utility does.
Tom Speirs
About half way through now. Here are some more samples:http://www.gameex.com/60fpssamples2.zipI am aware of the startup crackle in some games. I don't have a solution for that.

Tom Speirs
Hi,Just to let you all know these are all finally complete now. I redid about a thousand of them including optimizing for vector games and reducing the length of any fade ins where I couldn't capture the entire intro of the game.. So you might want to download updated files if you already downloaded them. It is a custom developed process to capture and encode the videos so not all of them are perfect but I really like the results.I also did a set of Nintendo 64 title videos and these are also on the FTP. I also updated the NES, SNES and Genesis videos to reduce the length of the fade in where the intro sequence couldn't be captured.I would be interested to know what folks think of them. I put a lot of effort into it.Thanks.Tom.
Tom Speirs
Here is a demo of what they look like in GameEx.
B2K24
I appreciate all the work and time you've put into these Tom. I'm sure for the majority of people these will be an appealing alternative to what else is out there. The majority of users have the opportunity to make good use of these with GameEX and that's awesome. The small percentage of people with G-Sync/FreeSync displays (right now) will ultimately want the videos not forced to 60 Hz because they can easily run at the games native resolution.
