Hi

I am having an issue with GameEx being used in conjunction with Instant Sheller on Windows 8.1.

I boot up, but instead of going directly into GameEx, I get into this unspecified application called "The Event Manager - Status". It does not seem to do anything, and it disappears if I Alt-Tab into GameEx. If instead I shut down, and restart, without switching to GameEx, the computer then reboots into GameEx. If I reboot from GameEx, it boots up into this other program. So it's like it always boots into the program that it was NOT shut down from. Really annoying if every other time you power on the console, you get this silly application.

I disabled the Windows 8.1 Even Viewer services, so I have no clue what this could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

First off I can tell you are up against a number of obstacles.

You're running GameEx 10.19, which is from 2009, and long ago not supported. This is probably one of the reasons it's detecting your OS as Vista. It's showing net framework 2.0 installed, which is required for GameEx, but 3.5 would be the native version (I believe) for Vista, which includes everything necessary to support 2.0 applications.

I'm sorry to say, but I'm hesitant to make suggestions, as I feel the chances of something getting botched worse are most certainly there.

If I where to guess at a path, perhaps starting with net framework 3.5, then going to GameEx 14.41, but as you can see, this represents a huge jump in releases so it will likely be risky. I'd hold tight and see if anyone else has a suggestion, but I can't help but feel this is one of those instances where porting just represents to much changed to function dependably.

Hi tthurman

yes that Zombie. It is an awesome machine, and I definitely want it up and running and shining.

Net framework is the new one, and so is Windows (it's 8.1 not Vista, I do suppose that is because of the older version of GameEx). So other than the jump in GameEx, not much to worry about. I would even go and install the new version of GameEx, but for as long as I can, I want to try and keep the game setup the same.

I have the old system cloned, and working. I just feel it's time to move on to newer hardware. So not to worry about botching things up.

The funny thing about this issue is that it seems to be monitor-dependent. If I use an external older monitor which I have for diagnostic purposes, this does not happen. As soon as I hook up to Zombie's ProLite E2607WS, this pops up. Huh?

Win8.1 detects the Zombie's monitor correctly, so I really can't see what the issue could be. Every other time...

If I upgrade to the latest GameEx, it works the first time, but not afterwards. This is what I get.

Based upon the errors I have several questions:

It appears that you are using onboard video as opposed to a video card. Is there a separate video card for the cab? If so, have you tried to install it on the new mobo? Have you identified the make/model/type of video card and checked to see if there are drivers that are 8.1 compatible?

Likely the monitor is being assigned generic Windows drivers. Have you checked to see if there are 8.1 compatible drivers for the monitor?

If this is a much older system, it is possible that neither the video card (if present) and monitor are not compatible with later versions of Windows.

I am in fact using onboard video; but this was the case also in the old system, no special video card. There are no drivers for the monitor, neither for XP nor 8.1. Also, the monitor and video and in fact everything works just fine; it is just that when the system is booted on the larger monitor, every other time (provided it was shutdown from GameEx and not from this "other" application called The Event Manager - Status) boots into GameEx, even shows the game list for a moment, then switches to this strange application which in effect is just a blank screen with the GameEx window minimized. I can then Alt-Tab into GameEx and all works fine but obviously that is very annoying to have to do :(.

Hi Shuwatch and Draco1962

the drivers on the system are actually newer than the ones at Intel so unfortunately that does not work.

What I wouldn't give to know what Event Manager - Status is...

edit: the times that this Event Manager - Status is not visible it seems like the other running application (apart from GameEx) is the Gameextender - maybe that fails to load every other time?
